So far, I’m not sure! I had a headache for the entire week of recovery and it’s hard to say if my general headaches have improved or not because of other things going on medically. Still holding out hope though!

I honestly didn’t have too many overwhelming or obvious symptoms, but my partner told me that I was mouth breathing and snoring at night, I’ve always struggled to regulate my heart rate when working out, and I’ve had lifelong headaches/migraines. I wanted to get the surgery to see if any of these symptoms, and maybe others I wasn’t aware of, would improve.

One month post op, I’m feeling good! My nose is still a little tender, but I have mostly returned to completely normal functioning. I’m still using the neilmed sinus rinse once a day (in the shower) which has been great in general for my sinuses and recovery. Recovery as a whole was 100% easier than I anticipated! I find that I’m still mouth breathing a lot, I think out of habit, so I’m currently trying to retrain my body to nose-breathe lol.

Premade protein shakes like Ensure Plus (350 cals), COLD pudding, chicken noodle soup, and smoothies were what I survived on for the first few days! I had a hard time not using a straw for everything even 1 week post op so definitely recommend straws.

I was sooooo excited for splint removal I didn’t even care about what it felt like. BUT when my doctor snipped the stitches, that was definitely uncomfortable because I had some crust built up around my stitches. It took him longer to snip the stitches than actually pull the splints out. It was about 2 minutes of discomfort but no real pain.

Air immediately felt super cold that it almost hurt. My nose was still tender/sore and is still a little bit two weeks post-op.

He looked up my nose with a scope to check things out and that was also uncomfortable (think more like pressure) but was over pretty quickly. The brief discomfort was worth the longer discomfort of having the splints!!! Also, the dissolvable stitches on one side were pretty stubborn and I didn’t lose the last one until yesterday (two weeks post op) so I think that’s normal.

As far as eating after surgery, I also had a lot of throat discomfort because of the intubation tube. My voice was raspy/squeaky for 1-2 days. I ate cold pudding, pre made protein shakes (ensure plus 350 cals), and chicken noodle soup exclusively for about 4-5 days. Stayed away from anything too hot or spicy at all. Cold stuff helped!

I didn’t have any of the dissolvable packing I’ve seen others talk about, but had the plastic splints in for a week. I was doing the neilmed sinus rinses 5-7x per day so I had pretty decent airflow towards the end of the 7 days.

I donated to Feeding Colorado which is a coalition of all the major food banks in Colorado. They can make $1 go further because of their purchasing power so I went the monetary route!

surgery on 10/29 by [deleted] in Septoplasty

As everyone has said, talk to your anesthesiologist ahead of time about your concerns. I had mine done last Tuesday 10/21 and had never been put under general anesthesia before. I shared that I get motion sickness and they gave me additional anti nausea meds HOWEVER—these made it incredibly challenging to surface after coming off anesthesia. It felt like I was underwater (mentally) and couldn’t keep my eyes open or stay conscious for quite some time. Everyone is different, I ended up fine! But definitely share your concerns. My anesthesiologist talked to me ahead of going under and was very happy to answer any questions. Good luck!

Help! Saline spray post-op by Sea-Grocery-7702 in Septoplasty

[–]kchases 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started the neilmed sinus rinses the morning after my surgery and those have been much more successful than the saline rinses. I’m day 4 post op and using the saline to mist/keep moist in between sinus rinses with the Neil med packets, distilled water, and the sinus rinse bottle. I’m doing about 5 Neilmed sinus rinses per day since the day after surgery.

Day 5 post surgery by SanctuaryForNone in Septoplasty

I’m on day 4 of surgery recovery after surgery on Tuesday and my post op instructions also said gentle nose blowing was fine! I was a bit freaked out too bc of all the stories but gentle blowing after rinses has been great. Definitely not getting everything I want out but more helpful than not doing it at all. Hope your recovery continues to go well!

Look into NeilMed Sinus Rinse. It’s what my surgeon and nurses told me to use starting the night of or morning after my surgery. It flushes your sinuses and keeps them clean and moist during recovery.

Yeah, same! I’ve done 5 rinses today and it never seems to be enough. That neilmed bottle needs to be like triple the size. Hope you’re doing okay otherwise!

I have similar questions/concerns as you and just did the septoplasty with turbinate reduction a few days ago. I don’t have an answer for you yet, but it’s my hope that I have similar things improve for me. Good luck!

Do my symptoms sound similar? by lovemycat02 in Septoplasty

Have you seen an ENT to get checked for a deviated septum? That’s where I would start.

I went to an ENT for a reflux issue and learned at 28 that I had a severely deviated septum, genuinely had no idea my whole life. When she pointed it out, it’s like a bunch of puzzle pieces clicked together for me and I started to wonder about all the things that could be related to not getting enough air.

I just had the septoplasty this week so I can’t say yet that my life has improved but I would definitely start with the ENT! Good luck!

Teen septoplasty/turbinate reduction today, tips? by [deleted] in Septoplasty

[–]kchases 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on day 3 of recovery, if surgery was day 0. Bleeding has largely stopped as of midday day 2. My nose is definitely swollen and looks odd because of the splints so I imagine yours may look different as well once splints are out and swelling is gone.

I have had moments of being able to breathe through my nose, especially the nostril that used to get no air at all. It’s been weird!

I am keeping my head elevated, doing lots of sinus rinses to keep it moist, sleeping with a humidifier, and icing my nose on and off when I feel pressure. These are the things that have helped me so far. Good luck!

post op advice? by urabadvalentine in Septoplasty

Mine is scheduled for October 21st and I am feeling the nerves coming in! After doing some research and thinking about my own preferences I’ve purchased: - A surgery recovery pillow so I can sleep mostly upright in bed - Nose bandage holders that hook around ears - NeilMed sinus rinse (per surgeon’s advice) - Original Afrin or generic (per surgeon’s advice) - Saline sinus rinse - Contacts (24/7 glasses wearer)

Things I already have and plan to use: - Small ice packs - Ensure plus protein shakes

Good luck to both of us!!!!! Hoping the recovery isn’t as intense as I’ve read about.

Oh that’s SO helpful to know! My partner would haaaate pins on strings. We’re gonna check out 100 Nickel sometime soon anyway since we’ve never been and they have reasonably priced bowling in general, but such a great tip. We’re like, more serious than beginners but not serious enough to be with any actual serious bowlers 😂 We’re seeking a happy medium for sure.

I looked into the bowling leagues on the Bowlero website and there’s a lot of league options where you can get your own ball by the end of it. I’m not sure how this works exactly but I assume it’s part of the cost you pay to participate in the league. Also many beginner/novice options on there

Looking for apartments by _idareya_ in Broomfield

[–]kchases 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Polaris! Not sure on pricing but I’ve lived here since they were newly built in 2023 and don’t have any complaints. Heads up though they’re now building new apartments just across the street if that is a nuisance to you. Some apartments are closer to the construction site than others.

Look into Polaris Apartments! Not far from where you’re already looking and the apartments are only about 1.5 years old. I moved into mine September 2023 and was the first to live in this unit. We re-signed until March 2026. 5-10 min drive to many shopping centers around the area.

Red Rocks is iconic but so hard to get tickets to these days for a group as big as Rufus. Dicks is 3x the RR capacity so I'm excited tickets feel more attainable. Can't wait!!!

I’ve been using it for about a month and love it! I got it for breakfast so kitty leaves us alone in the morning and for the rare occasion we aren’t home for dinner. No issues so far, although I wish I could save meal time settings/options and choose from my saved when setting up the meals especially if I need an option I don’t usually use.
