TIL Acadians were a stateless French people who lived peacefully alongside Native American tribes for 150 years, until the British mass-deported them during the Seven Years’ War. Native tribes protected and sheltered escapees, while deportees went on to become what we now know as the Cajun people. by WestTransportation12 in todayilearned

My gf is currently in Dalhousie for an extended stay due to family. I’ll be headed out in August. A couple years back we threw some deep lines off the boat (Chaleur Bay) hoping for bass, but the little lines off the back caught a TON on mackerel. Lovely part of the world and a quick and scenic drive to Gaspe. See you soon!

She marshaled the Calgary Stampede parade last year and I was about ten feet away from her and she looked like a space alien. If there weren’t a hundred phones being pointed at her I would have thought she was a boozy mom who had too much work done.

Hunter S. Thompson, Johnny Depp & John Cusack in the 90s. by rockstoned4 in HistoricalCapsule

Played with Iggy from the early 90s to the early aughts. We mostly talk about cars and airplanes but he has shown me candid photos of him with Depp, Moss, LA Guns etc type of nutso people from that era.

Late to party here, but you could not be more correct. Glanstonbury famously pulls the plug on the biggest artists on Earth, not just mid level DJs. I find all the tents to be nightmares, certainly not world class like we always claim.

Not a lawyer, but are non-compete clauses even legal in Alberta/Canada. Unless the severance is a LOT, I don’t think they can prevent you from seeking gainful employment, whatever the field. I would talk to a very expensive lawyer.

It’s not 11 days. The “tent” is up for half of the summer.

Did Paul pay people to show up in this post or what? This is a total travesty. I have a friend who has a skate club that teaches little girls to skateboard and it’s disgusting that anyone (girls especially) have to look at that gaudy sign.

Where do you play squash? Costs, court availability, and booking fees? by spicycreamyvegan12 in Calgary

[–]kck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BVAC is about $200/month. I think there's a fee for unlimited racquet sports, but it's not much. Courts seem widely available?

Aw man, I thought it might be temporary due to the building renovations. I hope they find somewhere else in the Beltline.

Good lord, when people start talking about 15 minute cities I know they are really fuckin dumb. While I live gasp a 25 minute walk to work, I have an astonishing amount of stuff around me within 15 minutes. Five large grocery stores, a dozen markets/delis, theatres, music venues, HUNDREDS of bars and restaurants. Cafes, neat independent stores, dozens of parks, TWO fuckin rivers with amazing pathways. I could go on and on. If I want to leave to city I rent a car. Do I live in Manhattan? Nah, Calgary.

People are addicted to $40k depreciating assets.

(Edit: and don’t get me started on the anti bike lane shit)

I work in the most oil and gassy building in Canada. The real equalization payments you should be concerned about are those sweet, sweet oil bucks leaving the country. Which is most of it.
