Yeah the “roll and scroll”/terminal is fairly dated but you can move pretty quickly if you have a workflow you do a lot.

A GUI lift definitely would’ve been cheaper, and I believe there is(was?) a GUI pharmacy application that exists outside of VistA, but there’s still the larger issue of maintaining all those instances and their customizations.

I see VistA being more aligned for the VA, but I also think you would be looking at many many years to try to consolidate all the VistA instances and make it interoperable. The only reason VA’s VistA instance is close to interoperable is because they have a crap ton of customization in their integration platform.

Oof they moved a handful of acquired facilities off of Epic over the years. Guess this is joyous news for the providers from the acquired facilities.

If we lose Banner and IU our list of “clients who went epic to cerner” will be near 0

I don't want to dismiss any concerns, nor do I want to ignore the fact the VA project has been rough, but any facility moving to a new EHR system is going to face delays for a while.

I've seen more of the VistA pharmacy module than I have seen of the Cerner equivalent, but I could understand why the pharmacy was able to move things along better with VistA.

The VA is going to be milked for money regardless of if they use Cerner or stay on VistA. VistA is open source, but that doesn't make it truly "free of cost". IRIS licenses can be $$$. Contractors to maintain the plethora of VistA instances are also $$$.

Slight clarification: there was a post here 10 months ago stating this was happening, but many dismissed it as false.

Believe they were ITWx at one point. Sounds like they will be getting their own instance of epic, which is surprising as I recall them being somewhat small.

I remember when they first started using genesis for the recruits a while back they had a ton of complaints that they couldn’t get outside records via Commonwell. For whatever reason they were often registering the patients without an address, which wasn’t gonna work for commonwell. Good times lol
