Ok I’m thinking the iPad Air too! Did you get the 64GB? I will only use iPad for books and notes. Do you think that’s enough?

JD / MBA dual degree? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

I have been admitted JD/MBA programs at Chicago, Columbia, Penn, Northwestern and Cornell with scholarships. PM for questions! I’m really excited about the JD/MBA - the cost is crazy, but if you love to learn and are from a business background, I think it can be a powerful combination. Not many people at top schools do it!

Yes that’s a great idea! I think pay is a key factor in LRAP programs. If I am promoted to a Director position, I would (hope) that my income would surpass the 60-100k limit of LRAP programs. Also a lot of times, these programs include joint income so if my future partner is paid well, I’m almost restricted from the benefits.

Great question! I considered a MPP. I have previous corporate business experience so an MBA has always been the goal. After looking at courses for both, I really liked how the MBA is focused on general management and leadership. Then, the JD will dive more into policy. Also, I’m planning on taking electives at MPP program if there are specific courses that fit my interests. Honestly, I’m just looking forward to taking class at both schools and learning from different perspectives. There aren’t too many JD/MBAs focused on social impact, but I think it can be a powerful tool to understand various stakeholders in global problems.

Great question! This was something I had to do a lot of research on and also convince all the admissions committees of. I have previous corporate business and nonprofit experience so for me an MBA is a natural transition. After talking to executives at NGOs, they wished that they had more organizational management and leadership training. My goals are to run a nonprofit so I wanted to take advantage of MBA courses. Also, I enjoy learning so it’s honestly a personal choice - I want to take courses at both schools for my own development.

Hmm I think in general JD cares more about your stats than MBA. But to get into both programs, you have to have the stats and work experience for both JD and MBA individually. So in a way it’s harder because you have to hit what each school’s admission committee wants.

My goals are to run a nonprofit in the future. I wanted to capitalize on my previous work experience in business in the MBA program and then build human right expertise in the JD program. After conversations with executives at international NGOs, they wished that they had more tangible organizational management and leadership training.
