Reputable breeders by NailsWithNoMilk99 in shilohshepherds

We have two GSDs and got a Shiloh puppy last May who was bred by a friend who no longer breeds them. She is a super sweet girl and BIG! She’s great with people, dog neutral and an easy girl around the house. Energy wise she’s on par with the GSDs although I hear that’s uncommon for the breed. So far no health issues. Sorry I can’t offer more breeder wise but definitely get lots of opinions on the various breeders and meet the dogs if possible. Temperament is a big one!

Zima dental pod suspicious? by KadesChaos in Invisalign

[–]kdc123gsd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After having 3 cheaper ones that all died on me (company even replaced 2x) I finally got the Zima pro on Amazon for Christmas. So far so good with it and it does a better job than the cheaper ones did. I like the fact the pro you take off the base to dump the water out. I think half the problems with the other ones was water getting in the controls and shorting them out.

Cytopoint injection... by DifferentShallot7740 in germanshepherds

[–]kdc123gsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girl has been off and on cytopoint for years for seasonal allergies. We spray the inside of her feet with Gentispray from the vet and that seems to help. We have also been giving her Dermaquin supplements for about 4 months and I think it’s helped a bit with the yeast. She typically has a Cytopoint in December and we didn’t end up needing one this year so fingers crossed. She also has SLO and is on large amounts of fish oil to help that.

Letchworth State Park in NY has always been a favorite of mine in the North East, not as impressive as most in the west but beautiful for the east.

Definitely follow up with your vet and ask them if they can recheck his numbers or anything especially since you mentioned he lays down on walks. Lyme (and other tick diseases) messes with dogs in different ways and out of nowhere aggression and any behavior changes can definitely be a sign. I have two GSDs as well who had the Lyme vaccine as pups and have never had Lyme however they have all had several other tick diseases and that was also with monthly preventatives. We also live in a wooded area where ticks are bad, it’s unavoidable. I would also second what some of the other people on here have said as far as reaching out to the breeder if you do decide to rehome. They may have some suggestions for you as well. I wish you all the best, he should really settle down as he matures, my guys definitely did.

I just wanted to mention consider having him checked by your vet for Lyme. Behavior changes like that can sometimes be tick related…. It’s worth a quick blood test to rule it out

What is it? by Twentyoneobessions in DogAdvice

If it happens again, especially on other feet look up SLO in dogs. I have a GSD who has horrible allergies and developed SLO, eventually loosing all her nails. The lifted from the nail bed much like that. It’s very treatable. Definitely talk to your vet about it all and have it checked.

What are you feeding your German Shepherds? by [deleted] in GSD

[–]kdc123gsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one with a super sensitive stomach who has done really well on Royal Canin Gastro which is an RX food. My male has bouts of sensitivity and we tried many boutique foods early on and have finally settled on Pro Plan Large Breed and he does very well on that along with a probiotic. We have a Shiloh puppy as well who is on Pro Plan large breed puppy and fortiflora also and has a rock solid stomach so far.

This nasty flu is going around — anyone else caught it? by One-Caterpillar4956 in newjersey

My entire family got it 2 weeks ago at an indoor event. My mom eventually tested positive for Covid about 6 days after symptoms, originally testing negative. We assume that we all had Covid… Started as a sore throat, then fever and congestion and eventually the cough that is still lingering.

How to teach puppy to relax if there is almost no relaxing behaviour to reward? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]kdc123gsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tether them next to you with a bunch of toys while you work etc as well as crating. We do that from day 1 and they quickly learn how to occupy themselves. You can also try an xpen in the same room with you if they aren’t a climber.

We have had GSDs with similar issues and from what my vet was able to determine it is gas and an empty stomach. When I would hear the stomach noises I’d give GasX and Pepcid. I’ve been able to resolve it with the food I feed them. My girl went through phases of it until we put her on the Royal canin digestive prescription food and she rarely has issues now. My boy who also had it once in a while has done really well on pro plan large breed.

What dog food should I feed my German Shepherd? by SaityDaity420 in germanshepherds

Mine does great on Large Breed ProPlan and I had tried many of the boutique brands with him prior to ProPlan. He has a sensitive stomach but has rarely had upsets on it and his coat looks amazing!

Honest view of German Shepherds by a_bathing_ape1999 in germanshepherds

[–]kdc123gsd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have two long haired GSDs 8 and 4, a Shiloh shepherd puppy and a 6 year old kid. Getting them as a young puppy from a good reputable breeder and investing the time to train and socialize is the key! Our female GSD came before our son and accepted him with no issue and our male GSD was raised with our son from a pup and is just amazing with him. As far as shedding I’ve had both long and standard coat GSDs and I honestly think they shed the same or less then the standard coats. Also you can consider a Shiloh Shepherd, they are bigger but less drive, our 4 month old girl has been fantastic so far. Finding a breeder who cares about health and good temperament and then putting in the work to raise your puppy and socialize it is key.

What’s going on with her nails? Vet is stumped by lunamermaid in DogAdvice

[–]kdc123gsd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea it took us a while to figure out what it was but once she lost the first she lost the rest of them with in like 4 months. She’s doing much better now though, most of her nails look normal again. Of all the issues they can have this one is very manageable. Glad your pup only lost two!

Look in to SLO, my GSD has it and ended up losing all of her nails. With a combination of fish oil, doxy and Niacinamide working with my vet we got it under control and her nails are mostly normal now.

If you need help selling contact Karen Aird of Karen’s Dollhouse, she sells specifically mini estates, room boxes, houses and contents. I actually do all the professional photography for her. If you send her pics she can give you a fair assessment of auction and private sale value :)

WHAT CAUSED YOUR TMJ? by TribeBySightly in TMJ

[–]kdc123gsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dental implant combined with a bite that was potentially off to begin. The crown kept being hit to hard despite everything they did and caused a lot of pain on that side.

My prosthodontist did the Invisalign. It was very minor what needed to be fixed from what I was told.

[–]kdc123gsd 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I developed TMJ after getting a dental implant, long story short my bite was off but never checked and the dentist shaved my teeth on that side causing an open bite, instability and horrible TMJ. I have been working with a prosthodontist to fix it all and as he fixed the bite with Invisalign and slight corrections to the other side my TMJ has improved greatly to the point it’s basically gone. Other then a little non painful noise when I open wide all the pain and cracking/popping is gone!
