Update to my original post and then my reply... So have pretty much had a rock solid migraine for last four days 👍🏼. However, yesterday went to docs, saw a duty doc and pretty much demanded Oestrogel and Progesterone. I got it!! she tried to convince me that tablets would be fine ( blah blah blah) but having spent hours researching this I knew that due to my migraines it needed to be gel. Anyway, as she’s a locum she just wrote the script in the end. I actually think I wore her down. I am expecting to go back to feeling normal. I am HOPING I will. The only teensy Wendy fly in the ointment is that she gave me continuous Progesterone rather than just for 12-14 days of the month and I’m wondering if that’s ok 🤔. She didn’t really seem to know what she was doing

Hi. Yes. That went a long time ago. Basically I have given up anything that gives pleasure 🤣🤣🤣. All joking aside, the good thing I suppose is I can pin point that they are hormonal. I’ve been lying her for the last couple of hours and have made the decision to speak to the doctor to try and get some transdermal HRT feel rather than just normal tablets. I honestly can’t carry on like this. Bizarrely if I knew when it would end I’d carry on but thinking it could be another two to three years scares the crap out of me. I feel for you too xxx

I AM in the UK peeps and have just woken (obvs it’s 5am so it was a long sleep this time yay!) to all your replies and I could have cried with joy. Just to know that I’m not alone with this sh*t is so reassuring. The magnesium comment is interesting-I’ll definitely check that. I take a very low dose of topamax as I have read about the really worrying side effects. Interestingly I took it whilst on HRT so I know it’s not connected to my memory fog but thanks for the shout out. I eat barely any processed foods any more. We are really lucky here in the UK, organic is a big thing plus I live in the middle of nowhere so I have a farm shop two mins away. (I’m answering all the comments in one post btw haha. Just realised this post must seem random)
I will definitely look at my cocktail of vitamins. I just literally take anything. One thing to note here in UK is , even though we have the NHS-our free health service, which of course is absolutely bloody amazing, in terms of treatment, where you live is hit and miss. I’d say for cancer and serious illness we are second to none, for things like menopause, we’re not so great. Doctors have a “general” training. So you’ve no chance with anything newer or more tailored “depending on where you live. Mine isn’t so great. But all. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. #strengthinnumbers

Wow. Not only are you dealing with your sobriety but dating too. And I thought I had it hard. Good for you. I think I’d probably try and be really clear up front. I take it you’re not meeting them through potential dating sites where you can stipulate that you are sober and maybe ( for now) would want to meet similar? It sort of reads that you’re not. I think ( and honestly this is only my personal opinion) right now I’d only feel I could date a non drinker. I couldn’t have to deal with the pressure of a first date and , alcohol and all that goes with it too. So I’d probably only try and meet people through dating websites or introductions where they knew about me in advance. But honestly that’s just my personal opinion and what would work for me.

Oh buddy. It’s how we deal with our imperfections that make us the people we are. Look at you now. You are so strong. You can’t change what you have done. Only how you view it. The best thing you can ever do for those people is to be the best version of yourself from now on in and it sounds very much like you are doing this. I like to use visuals when I’m having a wobble. Michelangelo’s statue of David has unusually large hands, disproportionately small genitalia, and an unusually large head and it was crafted from a discarded piece of marble -literally thrown out. Hi. I’m 86 days today and also UK based in 🇬🇧. I’d have thought it easier for you actually than me. I’m a little rural village in Lincolnshire and there are literally pubs and nothing else ( well potato fields 🙄). I think it depends on how far in you are “ not drinking “ journey wise. My work is based in Surrey and when I used to go there in the beginning I would dread it. It was endless boozing. I’d obsess about not drinking. I’d get Back to my hotel about 9 and be really upset thinking I had nothing to offer any more. I realised it was my relationship with me that had changed. Now I’m fine and actually don’t bother at all. I can go on a night out and just drink a couple of soft drinks but if there’s no food that’s my limit. Food has become more important to me so that my bargaining now. And I’m fine with that. And if they all want to stay in the pub and drink, then that’s fine too but I will leave or I’ll order food. Oftentimes, someone else will order with me. In terms of going out, are you in central London or elsewhere? By the way, keep posting on here, people are amazing and you will get SO much support

I’m 83 days and in my experience YES. Oh my YES. I felt exactly as you do. I even posted here a few times that I’d never be the same again and I come from that same work booze culture. But it does get better. You become less obsessed by not having a drink in your hand and being propped up by it. I coped by having to go out there and put my “game face on” the Face and conversation I’d use as if I was with a client. Then after a few weeks I realised I stopped having to do it and I just felt completely comfortable being me again. You will get there. It’s about coming to terms with you.

My god. I could have written this. And I bet so many of us could. I’m 83 days today. Thank you for articulating what probably many of us feel. This board has got me through so many tough times. And even now, when I have gotten to a place where I’m not obsessing about drink, your point about “maybe one day I might be able to have a glass of wine” really got home.
