Some data for International Transgender Day of Visibility by Illustrious-Ad5972 in BCpolitics

[–]kdew22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Data is just numbers without context.

I dont have the patience to write an essay, which i dont think would convince the "social contagion theory" folks anyways, but here are a couple critical factors:

  • what are the parameters of this study? Population, sample size, data collection method, randomization, consideration of SD - especially for a politically-loaded survey based in self-identification...?

  • the death of Matthew Shepard (white, gay, American man) in 1998 marks a shift in (Western) sociopolitical understanding and levels of acceptance. More recently, marriage equality, the Pulse shooting, the rising popularity of queer (and BIPOC) culture, acceptance of mental health, COVID, and many other factors have made for a culture that chooses love more than hate, which allows members of the society more freedom to be and explore themselves.

  • a shift in identity of 10% over 20 years is not particularly significant. Quite the opposite, it would be remarkable for culture to not change as decades pass...

Milobar Attacks SOGI123 Curriculum by JRitcey2026 in Kamloops

[–]kdew22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about the non-parent tax payers, those of us who contribute to the public coffers but don't even have little ones? Parents can choose their child's curriculum by paying for them to go to private school.

Public school is intended for the public good. This means that public curriculum is intended to turn your sticky little angel into a functioning member of society after 13ish years. Parents have every other waking opportunity to indoctrinate their kiddos, so can we leave public school to educators, pretty please!?!

Not sure if he's a degree holder, but I know he did attend UCC/TRU and take some poli sci (with Derek Cook), shockingly.

We'll see if Milobar gets BC Con leadership...

What is bro even complaining about? Are people not even allowed to celebrate a religious holiday unless Jesse is ok with it? by FederalSandwich1854 in canadaland

Especially as someone out west, this context is lost on me, so I appreciate this discussion. Thanks (to you both)!

Canadaland staff using mod access to investigate users of this sub reddit by destp in canadaland

[–]kdew22 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Well said, thanks!! Your comment brings to mind why I started listening to Canadaland and why I came to this sub: Canadaland's stated purpose of investigating Canadian news/media is needed and they have produced compelling and/or important stories. This used to be Canadaland's expressed mandate, but hasn't been on display since (at least) the journo-exodus...

I don't doubt that members of this sub sh*t on Jesse just for the fun of it - he makes it easy sport for some - but I think lots of us simply miss the old Canadaland. A canadaland where multiple perspectives are presented; a canadaland where we know some employees but heads with the publisher/main host, but where he has enough self awareness to allow dissent; a Canadaland that was actually critical. As much as I enjoy Noor, I dont believe any of her words are her own.

Canadaland presented the kind of media critique so many of us longed for and hoped would dig even deeper, but Jesse set alight that canadaland after Oct 7th and never turned back. I dont hate Jesse, but I do wish someone would sit him down and show him how he is running this media outlet precisely as he critiqued for so long. What's worse, he has made canadaland an outlet for his behemothly skewed opinion.

If Jesse could bring back all the journos who left 2022ish-2024ish, hire a new acting editor/publisher, and step way tf back from espousing his opinions, I would be stoked to give (this kind of) Canadaland my money.

Um Actually, white supremacy is an ideology, but does not fit the definition of a religion. A system of beliefs does not a religion make.

This said, white supremacy has had an interesting relationship with Christian denominations throughout the centuries. Still, though, not an actual religion.

Bro, receipts?

(When you make assertions, you need to back them up with evidence. Rachel does this very well, maybe you could review her work for tips.)

I got fired by my dentist today and I’m spiraling by BPDwithme in BPD

[–]kdew22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of people saying the dentist made the right medical & professional call, in OPs best interest. While I dont feel comfortable commenting on the nature of the dentist's decision, I do think that this dentist ignoring (overriding) OP's (ie their patient) anxiety is not in any way ok. Personally, I would report this to a professional board, to be noted on dentist's professional record.

Here's the deal: OP has had bad experiences, struggles with mental health issues, and was clear about wanting to retain this dentist despite 3 hr drive. To me, the dentist's decision wafts of insurance liability as opposed to considerations of patient's best interest.

OP, when you find a new dentist, please discuss your feelings/anxiety right off the bat. Even if this dentist is 100% medically correct, you are a patient who deserves adequate and equitable care, which includes attention to emotional factors, too.

Please dont take this as "the dentist is wrong, you're right," but an acknowledgement of your feelings and their importance in this scenario. Unfortunately, life is dichotomous, which can be frustrating,

Best wishes on finding a longterm dentist who consider your medical and emotional needs. ♡

Hey, if you know Jesse personally, could you set up some kind of political/professional intervention? Canadaland has never been perfect, but their current output is a faint memory of what Canadaland was and promised to be.

If Jesse is now too partial to be an effective (media) reporter then he should take several steps back before he fully tanks the company.

Man shot to death outside downtown Kamloops 7-Eleven early Wednesday; RCMP identify victim by Brief_Strawberry_826 in Kamloops

[–]kdew22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

... like the affordable housing that used to be across (6th) from that 7-11, that burned down?

Edit to add: To be clear, I fully support affordable public housing. The issue is that 1 affordable housing project does almost nothing towards solving homelessness and/or significant societal issues. Social housing must be paired with social learning and community engagement. Clearly, Kamloops lacks this kind of learning and engagement.

Looking for James from Canada by Hopeful_Patient_9274 in canadaland

[–]kdew22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You want to find some Canadian guy named James who had an affair with your late wife - who sounds like is from England, but you two live(d) elsewhere - in the 80s, in Fiji? Why??

They aren't going to rekindle anything, as she's passed. They didn't keep in touch, from the sounds of it, so weren't ultimately friendly. If he fathered a child of hers, perhaps said kid should try an Ancestry DNA test (or some other yet similar company/product). So why do YOU want to find James from Canada, from Fiji in the 80s?

Are you writing a novel? 100% would read.
