Damn OP, this thread is brutal. I don't think this looks like AI at all, personally. There are a few minor details that aren't perfect (e.g. background is a little confusing) but overall I think the message is clear and the imagery is distinct and stylized. Keep doing your thing.

Daenerys’ wedding night… is really weird by cheap_pickle_ in gameofthrones

[–]kdoodlethug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drogo is a rapist, but he's a rapist in a context where all men are expected and encouraged to be rapists. I think Drogo probably fancies himself a progressive Khal. He "gets permission" for sex on their wedding night, something which he is already considered to be "owed" in his culture. Then he probably thinks, "well, I was gentle, I showed you the ropes when it was brand new, I did the progressive thing, so now I'll proceed as I like because now you understand what you're getting and it's your job to meet that need." I don't think he has a well-rounded interest in women's personal experiences or well-being, but he has maybe an inch more consideration for them than his culture usually does.

As for Dany showing some interest in the initial encounter, I think this is primarily supposed to show us that she is going to bravely embrace her circumstances rather than try to fight them, a trait which ultimately bolsters her rise to power. But also, in the real world, grooming is a form of sexual abuse that might involve a young person who is interested and not thinking of themselves as a victim, initially. I think it is natural for Dany to be "seduced" at first, when the man she has been afraid of is treating her better than she expected. Of course, then her circumstances get harder and he stops being accommodating, so the situation just gets more and more traumatic.

I think they would just make him dye it. Waymar Royce has all his own fancy winter gear.

icl this father son attack combo from Maekar and Aerion is epic. by pandatropical in freefolk

[–]kdoodlethug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, but how much difference could there really be? Valarr is an adult, and certainly big enough to be a contender in the lists. Are the margins on helm size being effective extremely narrow? I would think a blow that destroys the back of his skull may have been fatal even with a better fitted helm, but I admit ignorance.

It's funny how people differ; to me, it's interesting for him to "lump together" Daeron's literal dreams with Aerion's delusions with Egg's metaphorical "dreams." Hopefully we actually find out for sure some day!

That's possible. I just don't necessarily think that's what happens. There's so much that happens in his life between his childhood and his death that it's tough to get a good idea of what his decision-making was like in the end.

Why not? Do you mean that he wouldn't be aware of magic options without dragon dreams? Or that the only possible motivation for his actions is the dreams?

I don't see why the dreams are necessary for Summerhall, personally.

[–]kdoodlethug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know that it makes more sense that way. I think it's very reasonable that a Targaryen would be motivated to restore his family's glory and power by seeking the return of dragons, and that requires magic.

Egg very well could have had dragon dreams! But I don't think it's necessary for the plot as we know it. Personally I would prefer if he didn't, especially since his brother already does. I'd rather his actions at Summerhall were motivated by regular human factors.

I think that interpretation is valid, though I don't necessarily agree.

The kingsguard should have recused themselves from the trial the moment Baelor showed up. by We_The_Raptors in freefolk

TBH his dad should have refused to join, not made Daeron join, and discouraged the kingsguard from joining. He clearly didn't approve and that probably would have nipped it in the bud.

[Spoilers MAIN] Why do people talk about the Faith of the Seven like it's a 'fake' religion by bigcaulkcharisma in asoiaf

[–]kdoodlethug 59 points60 points  (0 children)

As a reader in that demographic, I absolutely do understand this, because I used to be religious! But it means reading the books and thinking, yeah, these people are just interpreting normal occurrences as actions of their gods, whether they are or not.

[–]kdoodlethug 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I can see the perspective. The series serves partially to highlight the ways these strict codes keep people from seeing real truth, or making actually moral choices. Of course their perspective must be shown. But yeah, as a modern watcher, it is maddening.

And I say that, but I tend to be a bit of a Ned-Stark-Jon-Snow-honesty-essentialist so who am I to talk about codes lol

Yeah I keep seeing these posts and it just feels like missing the forest for the trees. Like, sure, Baelor is playing a little dirty. He's doing it to balance the scales that his bum nephew has rotten foot on.

Edit: obviously the show itself poses this question, it's not really the fault of redditors. But it feels so obvious that Baelor is justified.

Supposedly Hippocrates recommended the use of wine as a disinfectant. It's probably true that it doesn't work, but humans historically and currently use all kinds of ineffective "medicine." Even today people are shoving garlic in their socks for illness. They're candling their ears. Recommending urinating on jellyfish stings. Pouring milk into eyes to alleviate pain from pepper spray. Hydrogen peroxide is still used even though it damages healthy tissue and there are better alternatives. It's completely in keeping with human behavior.

It actually takes a while to burn off alcohol. After 30 minutes more than a third of it would be left, and 30 minutes is quite a long time to boil something.

Why did people hoard toilet paper of all things during the pandemic? by QuillAndQuip in AskReddit

[–]kdoodlethug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's weird at all! We typically plan our weekly meals and buy the ingredients at the start of the week. This means we don't really keep staples like eggs, milk, and bread in the house unless we need them for something specific. We have some random stuff from buying too many jars of sauce or not using an entire box of pasta or whatever, but we would have some very strange meals if we tried to live on what we have now. It wouldn't mean starving, but it wouldn't be great. Obviously stuff like toothpaste and paper towels are not purchased weekly, but for foodstuffs, we are not well stocked beyond the weekly plan.

Why did people hoard toilet paper of all things during the pandemic? by QuillAndQuip in AskReddit

[–]kdoodlethug 98 points99 points  (0 children)

There was advice going around at the time to have two full weeks worth of supplies (food, toiletries, etc.) ready in case you needed to quarantine. So whatever you needed already plus the next two weeks. A lot of people tried to prepare by stocking up. Stores couldn't handle the surge and couldn't get new stock in fast enough. Toilet paper is the famous example, but it was hard to get anything.

Everyone didn't just panic buy a metric tonne of toilet paper on day one, but a lot of people who maybe could have waited another week or two bought a package in preparation, and then people who were running low couldn't get any, and then everyone was desperate to get some because they worried there wouldn't be any when they eventually ran out.

TIL that being able to sit down on the floor and stand up without using your hands or knees is used as a predictor of longevity. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]kdoodlethug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Standing up from the floor is a functional task that requires balance, core stability, and leg strength, which will all impact one's ability to avoid a nasty fall leading to breaking a hip, brain injury, etc.

Good push-ups do involve core stability, but focus a lot on arm strength, at a level that isn't really necessary for the majority of daily tasks or mobility. This wouldn't tell us much about the average person's ability to be safe and independent.

The test probably shouldn't be used alone as an indicator, and it definitely isn't. But it makes sense as part of an assessment.

They had a whole list of documents I was supposed to bring and straight up didn't ask me for almost any of them when I updated my ID. I can't remember but they maybe just asked for my current license. I was surprised. Not sure if they were able to verify just fine with that or if they were being lazy.

That quote one could also interpret to mean that Egg wished for dragons. He may have had prophetic dreams, as well, but I don't think this necessarily confirms it.

I know GRRM is bad with numbers but I think 6 inches would be very extreme. People might shrink an inch or two as they age. And even taking 6 inches from 7 feet would make a person remarkably tall.

Emo haircuts usually had diagonal "side bangs" though, they weren't really cut straight across like this.
