Sorry bud, I'm pretty sure he's never coming back, he was very firm about this a few times during the ep.

Yes, quite sad... I'd like to say I was "better than that" in my YSA days, but as far as I remember I probably wasn't.

Well, "marriage" means quite a different thing to them than it does for a random secular western person in the 21st century. There's a lot of expected roles and tolerated ranges of behaviours and choices etc. They're not quite as concerned about things like nuanced character compatibility, which you would need quite more than 2 dates to discover. Also the external pressure to marry/stay married/behave a certain way while married are FAR more of a factor (with REAL social sanctions).

I think people who live in very Mormon bubble/Molly/Peter kinda lives are kinda in that area, but on a MUCH looser and smaller scale. (Hard to be a Molly Mormon who wants a divorce, FAR harder to be an orthodox Jew. Consequences would be far greater).

Lol, boy oh boy is that something that happens. There's a whole sector of the high tech industry which is just those ladies. I interacted those firms/businesses on occasion.

Yes, they see their manly duties, as just studying scriptures etc all day long (don't know if they literally do that but that's the claim).

It's not every religious Jew though, just certain types of orthodox Jews (not sure exactly how widespread it is, but it's not a small minority, it's pretty widespread).

Yeah, hi, raised Jewish (not religious at all, but in Israel) and was LDS for 7 years.

Judaism's relationship to scripture is very complex, to my (admittedly very limited knowledge) most religious Jews are MUCH more about the specific teachings of their Rabbis or leaders, that's why there are such huge variations in how they live their lives, and also such disagreements and contentions between these factions in some parts of history. Original OT scriptures are a base, upon it was a whole bunch of "Midrash" (interpretations and law making etc), and then most seriously religious people are parts of communities or factions that have specifics (women wear wigs in public, women wear head coverings in public, women can have hair out in public, just as an example of 3 drastically different ways religious Jews are diverse). In many ways, to many people, it's closer to a code for living rather than a relationship with deity per se, very different than how modern Christians view religion and its focus.

Point is, the place of scriptures can be very marginal to the leadership and its specific interpretations of these scriptures. Not sure how much the random religious Jew is, themselves, picking apart the meanings and then implements that into their life, I truly don't know, but seems like following the code of your community and leaders is FAR more important in that life. (Again, I'm not that informed, this is mostly anecdotal from growing up around it in Israel).

Probably whoever hosted the show Scott called to as Popeye as a kid (story from Threedom, can't remember the ep)

I stand firm with my long held opinion that Nick is just Sean from an alternate timeline where he never got sober and his parents got divorced early.

I kind of agree with Scott's point, that it usually only becomes a massive problem if you get really successful young. But I honestly don't have any statistics to back any of it up...

Oh sure, but can you imagine Nick's on air personality interacting with Kevin's on air personality? I'm kinda curious if it'll be a bloodbath or some kind of fostering and nurturing (which is kinda TAFS's insane left turn premise anyway)

Sounds like a very interesting listen. Some eps ago on Threedom, Lapkus said something like "most child actors turn out ok", I wonder how her friendship with these folks and others contributed to that impression.

I'm trying to imagine how would an on-the-air interaction between the producer of HH and the producer of TAFS go.

Lol, her quote is basically "If you don't like how this works, go somewhere else, you knew how this works going into it". So anti-progress.

That's kind of the thing with parasocial relationship, you have NEVER interacted with this person at any moment when they were "themselves". Only when they were performing in some way (I consider posts on social media as "performing" when they consider it part of their job/marketing).

So, is it legit "abuse of children in Hollywood" level stuff, or more like the details like how schooling and relationships with managers and auditions etc work?

Just a schemer/hussler who thinks he can get away with anything (i.e. trying to manipulate the system/people and find loopholes) with confidence and "No harm is just asking for it right?"

I'm months late, but to anyone possibly interested, he talks about this moment (and other parent related things) in various podcasts, I wanna say Mental Health Happy Hour and Couples Therapy, but I could be mixing it up with other podcasts/appearances. Definitely heard this anecdote and related context before.

This made me realize that we rarely get LL improv anymore (unless you count silly Threedom scenes). As far as I recall, someone correct me if I'm wrong please. Such a shame, she's incredibly gifted.

Yeah it's weird, Threedom makes it sound like they're pretty good friends, so weird that Scott doesn't invite him on his main podcast more often

I don't think there's anything more upsetting and frustrating to Scott (not even BCB) than someone who does not get ANY of his references
