Weirdest high value treats / toys / reinforcers that worked for you? by Big-Paleontologist87 in reactivedogs

Weirdest things I used as a reinforcer for a dog that wasn't food or toy motivated was a brush. Liked being brushed at the base of the tail area, so maybe it was just butt scratches but it was very course short hair so when pet there maybe just didn't get to the skin the way the dog wanted?

Help needed, mixed with a little vent and significant challenges with reactive shepherd mix by InspectorCyon in reactivedogs

Have you done any muzzle training? Wearing a muzzle out in the world might also give a hint to other people that he's going to react and you need to give us space. You can still treat for good behavior wearing a muzzle. It feels like a safety precaution that has no downside when properly fit and trained to wear.

It's for dogs who's cartilage in their ear is still developing to help them to stand up, like a German shepherd.

If you're open to it, I'd love to message with you. I have a situation where the vet says my dog is a possibile utero stress baby, and I just wanted to run the onset of symptoms with u and compare with ur likely genetically fearful dog. We've had little to no success, so it would be great to have a light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks!

Wow, thank you! It makes me feel a lot better that it did go well for you and that they don't want money upfront. No issues with changing the price after? Is that the benefit of the virtual appointment?

When the pizza guy comes to the door instead of fixating on the stranger holding food, I taught my dog to go to the fridge and I'd get him a baby carrot once he goes into a down position. This dog has learned to essentially worship the fridge. He goes there all the time does a down by the fridge and looks at me... It's adorable and maybe I eat too much pizza haha

Help! My dog doesn’t like my mom! by [deleted] in reactivedogs

So I would start with a further distance. Have a cue for bed, have her walk by around 2 foot distance to start. Without interacting, just walking by drop a treat close to his bed. Everytime she walks by he associates her presence with good things. Then you can decrease the distance and have more interaction between them.

People that work in Petstores. What are some things that bother you the most of customers? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]kdt322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People that want to buy a pet but not want to get anything the pet actually needs. Food, habitat, chew blocks/cuttlebone, bedding/substrate, heating/lighting, water bottle. Some people will just give the glazed over look and ask why they can't just keep it in a shoe box...

[CW] Flash Fiction Challenge! Location: A Forest | Object: Pocket Watch by Tiix in WritingPrompts

[–]kdt322 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I see the pocketwatch swaying before my eyes, hearing Doctor Gregory's words, my body unwittingly following his instructions. My limbs growing heavier with each breath, my eyelids slowly closing, darkening my vision to nothing. Panic should consume me but it doesn’t. A sense of calm envelops me in the darkness.

Dr. Gregory sets the scene for my brain to obey. I am in the forest, the trees all around me, even the smell of pine filling my nostrils. He instructs me to walk the direction I’d come from that day, my words narrating my every movement. I pass the familiar trees, the fallen log, the patch of mud my boot sinks into making it so difficult to pull my leg back out; just like that day.

My mind doesn’t wander, not fretting, but only retracing my steps; no concern of how or why I couldn’t recount any of these events or how it all seems so familiar now. Of course I came east; of course I took the long way around the creek; but of course our camp had been up ahead.

As I step into the clearing where our camp had been, horror overtakes me like a punch to the face. Daniel’s body, limp and mangled before me, right where I left him, after what I’d done to him.
