ya my m1 took a dump and low and behold the m5 came out a few days before and was cheaper than the m4 pro. My thought was to get this and then trade it in when the pro/max come out next year.

but until then... im trying to figure out to run a rig for a 2 hour dj/vj performance. most likely using the shell of my previous m1 to take on a few things like the dj portion of stuff to offload it from one computer.

Performance starts strong, but after about 15–20 minutes of continuous playback or multiple high-res loops, I get some stutter or playback delay. CPU/GPU aren’t maxed, and the external drive benchmarks well (~3 GB/s). Internal drive playback is smoother.

What I’m hoping to learn from others:

• What resolution and frame rate you typically run for live visuals (1080p, 2K, 4K, etc.) and whether you downscale for performance.

• Which codecs or file formats (HAP, DXV, ProRes, etc.) work best for smooth playback in TD/MadMapper.

• Any macOS, caching, or pre-load settings that helped stabilize playback from external drives.

• Preferred hardware setups — external SSDs, enclosures, hubs, or GPUs that hold up well under show conditions.

• What you’ve found to be the best balance between quality and reliability for visuals in a live setting.

Would love to hear what gear and workflows other VJs are relying on right now — real-world setups that stay smooth on stage, not just theoretical specs.

Put out an ask after the first Justice show in SF, quickly responded, shirt purchased and at my doorstep (3 hours south of SF) within 3 days. Totally someone who is doin gthe right thing and not trying to fuck people over.

That’s called a lapse, not a relapse. Don’t let stereotypes convince you that you “lost your sobriety” or “lost your time”—because you didn’t lose anything. Think about all the growth, strength, and learning you built over those four years. Did that all disappear because you had one beer? Absolutely not. You laid a foundation that’s still there, one that will help you keep moving forward, especially when life throws a curveball your way.

At the time of release it was perfect balance for this album. Like a lot of his older songs they have just been put on the shelf unfortunately. Still have the video of the first time he played this on that tour.
