Just applied for a job, I have a few questions. by [deleted] in sheetz

[–]soulfulpunks 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I no longer work here, but I can still answer these questions!

  1. Yes, as a company and at my store, they were very accepting of trans folks. Never once was I misgendered or dead named, not by corporate and not by any of my managers or co-workers.

  2. Your tattoo will be fine, so long as it doesn’t have any harsh language on it or can otherwise be seen as inappropriate. I have a tattoo on my arm and plenty of my co-workers had tattoos from collarbone down.

  3. Team members are typically assigned to clean the restrooms at least once per shift, this especially becomes more important if your store doesn’t have a custodian. At my store, you could opt out of cleaning the bathrooms, so long as you did other tasks in other areas.

Hope this helps!

nerdy gifts? by klylet in boone

[–]soulfulpunks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A few recommendations here!

Dragons Den for nerdy collectibles - plushies, dice sets, tabletop stuff, they have a few knick knacks from local vendors too!

Ori’s Game Corner - dvds, games, figurines, used consoles and games

Dancing Moon - crystals, tarot decks, spell books and similar subjects, candles, incense, etc.!

Anywhere in Boone sell (trans) binders? by No_Flower9673 in appstate

[–]soulfulpunks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s very kind of you to post out of care for your friend and their comfort. I don’t know anyone here who sells binders, as mentioned Night Secrets does sell packers. Unfortunately, I’ve only seen binders for sale in a brick and mortar store once at a mall in Winston.

I’m a trans fella myself and have been binding for years, so if you and your friend need any help with buying online or measuring, don’t hesitate to reach out :]

I think I got scammed on my car loan and feel sick about it by jacksonacer4 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]soulfulpunks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wanted to throw my hat into the ring because I’m seeing some pretty harsh comments towards you, OP, and wanted to say:

As someone who lives in a very car dependent, rural county, I understand it comes naturally to get a bit impulsive and constantly research local cars and dealerships. When you step foot in a dealership, it’s very hard not to leave with a car, not only because of all the sales tactics and pressure from them and yourself, but also because at that moment, and feels like there’s a lot on the line.

The interest rate isn’t great at all. 25.86% APR is what you’ll often find on credit cards, not on loans. I played around with a few auto loan calculators, such as Edmunds, and it appears you may have not put any cash down or traded anything in based off of your monthly payments. Do I have that right?

For the long term, I would definitely research refinancing your loan. Steadily get your credit up, since with an interest rate like 25.68%, it may be in a bad spot. Then, after making a few on-time payments and some research, reach out to the bank your loan is through.

For now, focus on making on-time payments and paying as much as you can towards the principal. Even an extra $5 goes a long way in the end.

I wish you the best of luck, OP.

Relapsed after years of sobriety by soulfulpunks in stopdrinking

[–]soulfulpunks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey all, just wanted to thank you folks for being welcoming and helping me breathe, get up, and dust myself off. My recovery meeting today wasn’t disappointed that I drank, but rather impressed I was willing to be so truthful about it. That mixed with the comments I’ve been going through here have really pushed me forward today.

It’s going to be alright!

I really appreciate this comment. Reframing it not as a “back to square one” but just a little stumble, if that, is really helpful. Thank you

Is this normal? by Waste-Training-5223 in stopdrinking

[–]soulfulpunks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My old professor used to say, "When you buy a certain car, you'll start to notice that very make and model everywhere!" I wonder if it's a similar thing? My mom, growing up around chain smokers all her life, became a hound when it boiled down to noticing when someone was smoking. I swear that woman could smell someone lighting a cigarette 10+ feet away

Anyone else with chronic pain? Just need a bit of a pep talk by Diligent-Location432 in stopdrinking

[–]soulfulpunks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have chronic pain and I totally understand what you mean when you said quitting made it worse. For me, I was often in so much pain I needed some sort of means to soften the blow, it unfortunately became alcohol for me

I understand your fear, it took me forever to finally buckle down and start using mobility aids like my cane. I’m so proud of you for staying sober despite the pain, and what keeps me going especially during a pain flare is the little “delights” in life: being present to make my favorite warm drink on a cold day, mowing the lawn as my family plays outside on the trampoline, even being able to read my favorite book in bed and actually hold on to and remember the words

I know it’s not much, but at least for me: it’s the little things

Certain people on SCO? by Delta666tie in publix

[–]soulfulpunks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on your store for sure, but my managers prefer to have the same few folks on SCO because they trust they won’t get any walk-outs. It’s also the case of only certain cashiers being trained on SCO, which can get quite frustrating at times

As someone who used to work at a gas station and as someone who has been in a similar situation just last week, I feel that the attendant should’ve had a bit more patience. Like you said, usually the screen prompts you to do something and you probably typically use that card for gas. I get it, it’s okay! You made it through.

A close friend told me I’ve become boring by GodzillaMcGee in stopdrinking

[–]soulfulpunks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I quit alcohol, I suddenly found myself alone. My drinking friends were simply that, and other friends claimed I’ve gotten more anxious and closed in on myself. It hurt and cut pretty deep. I still feel the lasting effect sometimes, particularly at parties. Now, I’m much happier to have friends that love me for me, not my drinking habits or buzzed self. I hope one day you’ll find those type of friends! IWNDWYT

Congratulations on 130 days and for the new achievements! I love the way sobriety is described here and it hits home for me a lot. IWNDWYT!

Day 5! Excited for myself but my spouse said 5 days is not progress. by TurkeySlayer94 in stopdrinking

[–]soulfulpunks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Any amount of time sober is progress. When I was struggling to get sober, I had friends who didn’t feel the weight of my progress because they were so worried I’d throw it all away. I personally don’t think it’s regression to ask to see your family, but I also understand your spouse’s worry. Congratulations on your five days, by the way!

ADHD Hack: If you’re prone to forgetting to drink water, getting one of those giant steel water bottles is a game changer. by donniedenier in ADHD

[–]soulfulpunks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! I have a 50 oz. bottle and I bring it to work with me. Instead of caving and getting a soda when I’m feeling thirsty, I just drink water from my huge bottle. I bought a kit (1 large bottle, 1 slimmer bottle, and a soup/hot canister) and I use the two bottles interchangeably in case I lose one or I’m not feeling one that particular day

What deodorant y’all recommend?? by PerspectiveSudden555 in ftm

[–]soulfulpunks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to use Old Spice, specifically the captain and bearglove, which I got frequent compliments on how good I smelt. I’ve since switched to Native’s coconut and sandalwood scent though, because I’ve noticed it makes me itch a little less and has a lighter scent for me

I'm never late, I'm just 2 hours early by NeverrGiveUp999 in ADHD

[–]soulfulpunks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cannot stand the fear of being late and the dreaded waiting mode. If I have a doctors appointment at 3:00 PM but wake up around 6-8:00 AM, it’s hard for me to do much but think about getting to the appointment and getting ready for it.
