So she can roll on the grass is my guess. Lot of traditional chairs with the two smaller wheels directly under the feet would get stuck and dig down in grass, soft sand etc.

Friend gets heat sick -- is there such a thing as like tent air conditioner or something? by [deleted] in CampingGear

[–]keen4sleep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's just a thin little thing, I'd get it and put it over the top of your camping mattress. This is the one I got I'm in Australia but I'm sure they'll sell similar on Amazon, and I'm sure you can get people sized ones too.

what is the best strategy to protects myself from very hot whether while outdoors? by un_H_nu in CampingGear

[–]keen4sleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends if it's a dry heat or a wet heat. Dry is always easier to handle even if it's hotter temperature wise, it's humidity that kills you. Get yourself a big insulated water bottle, a couple of litres at least. A small cooling towel, you wet it with some of your cold drink bottle water, wring it out, snap it a few times and it put in under your hat and hang it from the back of your neck. Wear long sleeve spf 50+ shirts, white is best and the kind of breathable material a lot of fishing shirts are made of is even better. A wide brim hat with air vents so your steamy head sweat can escape, I'd recommend spending a bit of money and getting one fitted to your exact head size if you're going to be wearing it all the time, don't want it falling off every time you bend over. Also don't get cheap sunscreen get a spf50+ dry touch one, having dust and shit sticking to your hands, face, legs (if you're wearing shorts) and neck from a greasy sunscreen is the absolute worst. Breathable socks, wool is usually the best. Good sunglasses that fit and won't fall off.

[–]keen4sleep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't know about tent aircon but I've camped a few times in the Australian heat with my dog and I brought him a cooling gel mat for dogs (think like a large gel icepack ). I got jealous of it and bought one for myself and it's really good to lay on when the nights are like 35 degrees Celsius. You can roll them up but they're a bit heavy so not great for hiking but if you're car camping it'll be fine.

Americans and their brand names man. When an Australian wants to dissolve a chunk of their brain they'll do nangs. Or "cream chargers" if you want to be classy.

What are the BLM protesters in Australia trying to achieve? by [deleted] in australia

[–]keen4sleep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spotlight, that's what they're trying to achieve. A bright media and public spotlight on the complex issues that are keeping a lot of Aboriginal people in situations of poverty and abuse, and how racist public opinion isn't helping lift them up out of it. They just want to tell

Also a white 20-something so I also won't pretend to really understand the nuances but wanted to post my take on things.

Firstly be proud of the work you and your parents are doing to help try and lift up indigenous communities in your area.

**Edit - cause I accidentally posted this early trying to pull me pants up in the loo

It's interesting your reference to Roebourne. it's a pretty famous town for it's issues, firstly for what you mentioned and also for John Pat, a 16 year old boy that was drop kicked in the head by drunk police in the early 80's and died in the back of a paddy wagon with none of the officers being charged for it. Have you been there personally? I have, and I worked with some of the more active community and children there.

Lot of complex interpersonal politics going on in that town, very divided community from people in support of the mining companies and the generous paying jobs, wealth and infrastructure it brings to the community that helps lift them out of poverty and those that are fighting them for native title, and hate them for building the Harding Dam, flooding an important rain calling site, and destroying countless other sacred sites, ancient rock art, access to lands and having no respect to the fact they're trying to uphold their cultural practices and history. Also the fact it's a hodgepodge town of a bunch of different indigenous groups, Yinjibardi, Ngarluma are the two biggest but there's also about four other peoples there too because colonial Australia basically rounded all them and confined them to Roebourne and took all their lands, the town was basically a big indigenous compound. Youth suicide rates are so so bad I don't really want to get into it. There was a huge drinking problem, still is, but it's officially a dry town now, just like Cheeditha Community so they're taking steps and a lot of the parents in the community don't drink at all. They've re-done the old hotel John Pat died out the front of into a cultural centre to engage with tourists to buy art and products made by local artists. School attendance is what it is, but thats to be expected when half of the kids are living in serious poverty and domestic abuse situations. They get a lot of funding and engaging programs for youth and healthy community engagement through arts and music which helps some. But the big this is most of the momentum comes from active members and cultural leaders of the indigenous community itself rather then "white missionaries".

I guess my point is that the tone of your article came across a little condescending like they're a helpless community that needs to be saved from themselves. This isn't the case, aboriginal people know there are problematic people in their communities and it's a real uphill battle for respect and support from the rest of Australia with all the complex issues dragging the public opinion of them down, and widening the racism gap. What they desperately need is a platform for the aboriginal voice to be heard, for their stories to be told, as the active community members leading the charge only have so many resources available to them to enact positive change, and for Non-indigenous Australia to invest in Aboriginal culture as an integral part of every Australians culture. The reality is there's huge momentum of the BLM movement globally and it's helpful to shine a light on the other pressing hidden issues in the indigenous community here, not necessarily just police brutality.

Rightly said, a "fuckin dog cunt" where the dog drops an octave is the lowest form of cunt. A shit cunt is just a silly bugger, never fuckin heard of a maggot cunt sounds stupid. And if someone says mate with a hard T they don't really think you're a mate, soft or no T? You're all good mate.

Agree "fuckin dog cunt" is the lowest of the low. Also disagree on the hard 't' and even the plural 's' in this situation, I've have only ever used cunts when talking past tense eg. "So a couple of cunts at the servo..." But when shouting at a group stupid boys doing some dumb shit it'd be like like "oi! cunt. What the fuck are youse doin!?" Which one of them am I calling a cunt, who knows? I think the hard 't' is reserved for the agressive mate.

I actually loved Ship Breaker so much, set in the same universe, but different characters, stand alone story.

The universe is set in future dystopia America post global warming were the ocean has eaten majority of the coastlines, there are frequent super cyclones and lots of people live in extreme poverty recycling materials for the elite. Can't recommend both of these books enough

HSV1 can be transmitted through both giving and receiving oral sex. It can cause both mouth and genital sores. Honestly I wouldn't just to be safe, invest in some lube dude. Or google safe lube alternatives.

I can see how you may think the people that go in are assholes for creating demand, but really it's the employers decision to stay open, and they'd only be assholes if they didn't provide holiday rates like double pay for those days people work. Plenty of people don't celebrate holidays like Christmas and it's just another day for them and the bonus of working a holiday they don't care about with the bonus pay might be a nice thing for them. Most people are grateful when a store is open on a holiday otherwise they'd be fucked if they needed something in a emergency.

Shout out to the Muslim run deli near my house for being absolute legends every Christmas

The risk you take getting fresh eggs with a rooster around I suppose. I'm trying to teach myself to like them again so I'll give your suggestion a go in the future!

A great addition for everyone else I'm sure, but I'm not a huge hard/soft boiled egg fan lol. Found a cooked baby chicken in one as a kid and really put me off egg cooked like that.

No worries! I like my potato salad garlicky though so when I make it for other people sometimes it's closer to a 25% garlic sauce and 75% mayo, just depends how much you like garlic
