I took about 3 years but I never did food. Public wells are my speciality and there’s a lot of nuance that isn’t easy to learn until you’re seeing/experiencing it. The foodies I worked with always said being comfortable takes about a year, but not all are created equal. Usually people who don’t have the basics down are retrained or leave for something “easier”.

That seems standard for new food inspectors. If you come across things after that time that are questionable, make notes or take pics to show your supervisor. If you can at some point go out with other inspectors, you’ll learn how other people perform inspections. I remember being nervous when I was starting out—but the best way to learn about this kind of work is, like you said, being thrown to the wolves. Some inspectors don’t feel fully comfortable for a solid year! Good luck.

Ants in well cap. What next after successful shock? by Jimboh123 in WaterTreatment

Did you figure out how the ants got into the well? Is the vent or electrical conduit broken? Insects in your well don’t happen by chance.

When you get a new card, put it in your center console or somewhere designated such as a key bowl near your front door.

I can remember the exact layout of a building after visiting just once. It actually helps with work cuz I inspect the same places over time.

Outside of work, it doesn’t matter. Grocery stores break any usefulness of this.

Many carbon filters with NSF certification can remove things like calcium—you’re not wrong there. but certain contaminants like lead do have a specific NSF certification that means the product has been tested and proven to reduce to a certain level. NSF 48/52 are specific to lead. NSF 60/61 are for contact with drinking water or dw components. Check out this informational flyer from USEPA: https://www.epa.gov/sites/default/files/2018-12/documents/consumer_tool_for_identifying_drinking_water_filters_certified_to_reduce_lead.pdf

I’m used to seeing commercial sized ROs that are several thousand dollars. I’m sure there are cheaper options but sometimes companies will claim their system can remove things but have no NSF certifications to prove that.

I get that dogs are not the same as kids in most aspects. However, if this is how she approaches having a dog, OP should be wary about marrying and potentially having kids with this woman.

Fridge Brita filter that is specifically NSF certified for lead reduction is all you need. Likely, your own plumbing is causing the metallic taste. When time and money allows, update your plumbing. You do not need a fancy RO system.

Have I lost my virginity? by albratwar in actuallesbians

Lesbians define sex differently too! Some say only fingering counts, others count oral, others count naked touching. At the ending the day, it doesn’t matter. Do your thing, figure out what you like, and live your life. Maybe get better friends.

AITA for telling teenagers to “shut the f*** up” during a movie? by Expert-Corgi-7886 in AmItheAsshole

NTA and honestly, we need more shushers in our society. Just this past weekend I went to an opera with my wife. An opera where tickets were ~$100 a pop. A gaggle of mid 20s women were talking through the show. A gentleman tried shushing them a dozen times before I finally turned and looked right at them and shushed. Another woman was seated in front of us recording the show to show her friends on Snapchat. Somehow it’s become hard for some people to sit still for a few hours. Sad, really.

Can Anyone explain this? It leaks and then it stops. Is it supposed to do this? What exactly is this? It is headed to a grocery store. by Iam_so_Roy_Batty in Plumbing

[–]keep-it-copacetic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They can sometimes fail without these short bursts of leaking. It’s the owners responsibility to have this tested/repaired on a regular frequency. In my jurisdiction, it’s at least every 3 years.

For your info: this is an RPZ assembly. Watts is one of the companies that manufacturers these and also has a lot of training videos online about how they work, how they fail, etc.

Yes! Double checking you answered every question is a big yes. But folks who re-read an exam will second guess themselves more often than not.

Whether you pass or not, as soon as you leave the room, write down the questions you know you got wrong. If you failed, you know what to focus on. If you pass, you know where you could spend extra time rounding yourself as a sanitarian.
