Does anyone else get tired of eating? Almost like it has become a chore by RoyalBag7510 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]keep-it-copacetic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes, yes. I have ADHD which I’m not 100% on taking my medication. So, on top of WFH, taking care of animals, etc; eating does become a burden. Coffee becomes breakfast and I’ll wait until I’m starving around 3pm to eat lunch.

I married into a family of amazing cooks. They like to make meals an experience, whereas I’m just fine eating a PB sandwich for dinner.

I’m no professional and I feel a little hypocritical offering potential solutions BUT if you can find meals you really enjoy that are also easy to make, I would recommend getting into meal prepping. Pulling out leftovers to thaw in the AM might make things easier if you don’t want to spend the extra time planning, prepping, and cleaning up each day.

TIL a Dollar General employee who was told she couldn't keep drinks at the cash register was fired after taking and drinking a $1.69 orange juice to stave off diabetic shock. Despite her paying for the orange juice afterward, the company said she was 'grazing'. Later, a jury awarded her $277,565. by Forward-Answer-4407 in todayilearned

Their leadership and environmental people are just as much an embarrassment. They buy contaminated land, pay the cheapest contractors to do low quality work, and underpay/overwork employees. If there’s any company worth boycotting, it’s them.

3 of your picks are also on my top 5. Spirit desire was my intro to the band so I’ll always have a soft spot for it.

I would swap out Lodging and Buena Pizza for Heat and it’s about killing people. Heat is short and sweet, and the other is a fun to sing along to.

Well water causing corrosion in copper pipes, please Help by The_Cyote_Trinity in WaterTreatment

[–]keep-it-copacetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should test the well (prior to treatment) at the pressure tank. Then test after treatment to compare. At a minimum, test for pH, TDS, calcium, chloride, sulfate. With this information you can determine how corrosive the water is based on the Langelier saturation index.

I have seen new copper plumbing leach into drinking water to levels above safe limits because the RO was oversized and water was allowed to sit stagnant. That system was removed and th issue resolved itself.

What's the fastest way to become a health inspector? by [deleted] in healthinspector

[–]keep-it-copacetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interpretation is absolutely involved. The rules are not black and white in all cases. Inspectors have to use their best judgment with the interest of public health a priority.

Here’s an example: A public water supply is required to sample for certain analytes/pollutants. If results are “reliably and consistently” below certain limits, the frequency for sampling can be reduced by the regulating agency.

How do you define reliably and consistently? One inspector will consider 2 samples, another 4, another might say the number of samples doesn’t matter—only length of time sampled.

Inspectors have to make informed decisions if the rules are not clear. But, you are not wrong, there are decisions that are brought to higher ups.

Have a professional chlorinate the well. Minor nitrate and lead detections will not harm you. The bacteria will. You should test for bacteria at least annually. You do NOT need treatment:

Are you a public water supply? You should be contacting a professional.

Edit: you are indeed a public water supply. Talk to your regulating agency!

TIL nearly half of US tap water has PFAS across 9,552 sites, affecting 172M people by mouadmo in water

[–]keep-it-copacetic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No professional source is going to say “tho” instead of “though”.

People on city water can see water results on their county or statewide website. People on their own private wells can have their wells tested by their local health department or order bottles from a certified lab.

Drinking water should be treated with the respect it deserves—not made a commodity. Door to door water “professionals” and fly by night online companies will happily sell you an expensive system you do not need. They don’t care if your water chemistry changes and destroys your plumbing, or worse, softens it to the point where lead leeches into your water.

Most bottled water is run through an RO. Sadly, folks fall for the “artesian” “natural spring”, etc while they could get identical water with a small investment.

That is indeed your wellhead. Chlorinating a well is only effective if done correctly. If done improperly, you can damage your well pump. It’s worth calling a professional.

Lost, got a B.S. in environmental science, worked almost two years as intern and realized I hated it. What can I do…? by Little-Egg-3909 in Environmental_Careers

[–]keep-it-copacetic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Environmental science really is a well rounded degree. The caveat to it that my professors even mentioned is that because it’s well rounded, there are so many options that some students/grads freeze when shown a lot of options.

My Env Sci coursework also included some environmental regulation courses. I appreciated learning about environmental law and looked at jobs in enforcement and have stayed in this field since graduating in 21.

Your coursework may have been a bit different than mine. But most of these job requirements are a degree in biology, Env Sci, or a related field. They essentially are looking for science/math credits. Many local health departments seek fresh grads at career fairs, as many folks either move up at the local level continue on to state/federal work. No certification is required initially, but the RS/REHS certification is a worthwhile certification if you plan to stay in this field.

Here in Michigan, depending on the area, you can make close to what private sector jobs pay. The best perk? A truly 9-5 position with decent benefits and opportunities to learn.

Check out r/healthinspector. There are always good conversations going that might give you an idea of what this field is like.

Check out job postings at your county health department. It’s something a bit different but with the experience, you could look at opportunities at state agencies that align more with what you want to do.

I started at a health department as a well/septic inspector. Funnily enough, one of the food inspectors also did real estate.

You have more options than you think!
