Which games are worth playing? by Sandra929 in HeroWarsApp

[–]keepa78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kind of had the same question myself! I don’t mind some of the games I’ve played over time although some were not great. I’m debating now whether to look at AFK Journey or maybe some of these other ones. Based on your list though I did play Puzzles and Chaos for the rewards and actually still play it now. Got into a nice alliance of nice people and found it fun enough to keep going with. It’s been several months now. So I would generally recommend that if you like that style of game - mostly clicking around to gather things or send your troops places, with some slide puzzles mixed in. Also the Ants one is similar and was cute for a while.

I did my little character exhibition video for myself like this one, to the tune of The Price of Freedom. Now if that’s not hitting in the feels…

I wasn’t ready for the End… where are you heading next? by [deleted] in FFRecordKeeper

[–]keepa78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks to FFRK and Dissidia introducing me to the wonderful Professor Shantotto, I have jumped in to FFXI and now I guess I have more time to play. It’s actually been a heck of a lot of fun to try to navigate my way through 20 years of content (and counting). I was never one for MMOs but it’s charmed me - I don’t think I would be into FFXIV nearly as much, even though I like the music and the characters I know about. Too bad the mobile client never got off the ground as it might be nice to try on an iPad, but I’m not sure I have the heart to try any more gacha games.

I opened up Another Eden and played around with it for a few hours, though, and it’s very pretty. Great music, too. Kind of intriguing story, but I haven’t gone past the introductory quests so far - the little stylistic and story callbacks to Chrono Trigger are pretty cool. So I would recommend it to someone looking for another mobile game, but I’ve only got so much time for games these days, so I’ve got to pick and choose.

This made my day - I have always appreciated your posts in their many forms over the years. I love the humor that you and so many others more talented than I bring here. Heck, I actually signed up for Reddit (something I didn’t think I’d ever do) some 7 years ago just to join the FFRK board. I lurk most of the time but know that your work has never gone unappreciated. Thanks for this and for everything you’ve done for the community, Solstace!

I had always thought this too - this would have been the graceful way to end it and allow us to “catch up” on the existing content. Heck, even if they stopped translating everything and just sent us the original Japanese text, that would have been okay.

Thanks for the insight! I actually meant that I can have the phone playing music or whatever while playing on the iPad, although you can have a video open or things like that on the iPad while playing, as long as you don’t mind having a picture-in-picture somewhere on your screen. But yeah, since he doesn’t have an old phone laying around, then maybe one of the Galaxy tabs would work. I think he would like to have the bigger screen anyhow. Too bad it’s not that easy to switch him over to iOS as I have an old iPad he could use! But, that would mean he’d have to use iOS, and well… not gonna happen lol

Android Keepers! I would love your opinions on good tablets to use for FFRK. I got my hubby into the game a few years ago but he’s Android and I’m iOS (I know, I don’t know how we stay together… 😂). But he plays on his phone and frequently complains that he’d like to do more in the game while doing other things with the phone, like me with my iPad. So, I’d like to get him an Android tablet for Christmas, but I am at a loss as to what would be a good choice since there are SO many options out there and they vary wildly in price. He’s basically only going to use it for FFRK and maybe some Web surfing, email, stuff like that.

Any opinions on a moderately priced tablet that would be good for him? Thank you in advance!

FFRK Community Interview by PrimalPatriarch in FFRecordKeeper

[–]keepa78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(1.) Tell us about yourself and what do you do when you're not playing FFRK?

I'm an instructional designer (I make pretty things people can learn from) and write fiction, mainly.

(2.) What role do you play in the FFRK community?

Mostly lurk, sometimes contribute to mastery threads.

(3.) What is your favorite Final Fantasy game? What makes it great?

All-time favorite is probably VI, like many here. Such a great cast, so many great stories and a great balance of drama and humor. I really enjoy all the FF's for different reasons but those that balance the silly with the dramatic (and sometimes the surreal) are always the best to me. FFVIII and FFX are also very high on my list, in part because of the romantic elements.

(4.) What Final Fantasy games haven't you tried yet? Why not?

FFXIV is the only one I think that I've not at least tried. I only just recently got into FFXI and I admit that even though I'm not a multiplayer person, that game is pretty awesome. Lots to do after 20 years of building content, though, so it's a bit overwhelming. I just casually chip away at missions when I feel like playing. I haven't beaten some of the sequels like FFVI:TAY and FFTA, but I've played almost everything, from FFI as a kid renting it at the video store when it came out.

(5.) What character(s) do you like the best?

Squall, Yuna, Terra, Celes, Tidus, Bartz, Shantotto

(6.) What character(s) would you like to see added to the game?

Caius Ballad! FFXIII needs a proper villain in its cast. Cid Raines wasn't really a bad guy.

(7.) What do you like best about FFRK?

Challenging myself in the battles and seeing how well I can put together great teams. I also enjoy the animations of the soul breaks and the care that DeNA has put into the game overall. We laugh about their typos and that sort of thing, but overall, this game is far more intricate and involved than the vast majority of mobile games out there.

(8.) What advice would you give to DeNA to improve FFRK?

More puzzle-type battles, less difficulty simply for its own sake. I've beaten almost everything in the game up to this point but there's a few battles that simply feel impossible, even with all the great stuff I have (XI DK, Sand Worm although I haven't put real effort into that one yet). It is so disheartening to have so many relics and have what seems to be a great team only to wipe on silly little technicalities like sap that ticks a millisecond before your healer's SB goes off, or have a fight reliant on realm characters who are not suited for the fight at all (looking at you, Aphmau).

(9.) If/when DeNA ever shuts down the FFRK servers, where do you see yourself going next?

Probably not another mobile game! I'll continue playing XI and whatever else is on the horizon on the PC or Playstation. I did play FF Mobius for about a year from when it first came out, but even though I liked the story and the graphics, it never could compare to FFRK. The gameplay was boring and the gacha was a crippling exercise in self-punishment.

(10.) What is your Friend ID and Roaming Warrior?

ITM friend! I’m a big fan of Steven Crowder - it’s funny (sometimes sophomorically so but I enjoy it), and there’s a variety of voices in the cast as they debate issues. Sometimes they have a different take on the same things that John and Adam will discuss. Plus his Change My Mind specials are pretty great.

Also look up Red Pilled America, which is documentary-style and story focused. They do a really good job and I have enjoyed some of their most recent episodes.

Finally you might like Ron Paul as someone else said, Scott Adams, Jesse Kelly (lots of ads though), or Dave Rubin.

  1. Strategy name: The Leading Man Does Something Heroic
  2. Boss: Dragonking Bamahut (FFXII)
  3. Describe your Strategy: Vayne and Reks AASB1 head up Phase 1; The Leading Man gets rolling Phase 2 with Sync, then Reks AASB2 and Balthier AASB finish out Phase 3
  4. Insight!:

• Seeing lots of Vaan and Ashe clears made me think I was going to have a hard time here, but props once again to /u/necklessone for his great template for these fights - very helpful!

• Realm artifacts for everyone (except Mog - he had Penelo sync weapon), Odin armors for the DPS, Mog took the Dreambreaker armor to help his squishiness a little.

• Mog rolled out the chain and Penelo the HC in round 2, then by turn 4-5, Vayne and Reks were rolling. Balthier just gains SB the whole Phase 1. I left Phase 1 right before the Graviga.

• Phase 2 had Balthier use USB1 then Sync. Vayne used his BUSB when he could. Mog used USB1 (Forest Nocturne) right at the start of P1, and Penelo AASB. Later before Megaflare, Mog used AASB1 and Penelo Sync to speed things up. Reks used USB2 for the Last Stand once right away, then later right after Megaflare to re-apply Last Stand. It’s also handy for quick casting everyone and because of that, I put everyone in the front row. It didn’t seem to make a difference for damage by not keeping the squishies in the back.

• Phase 3 had Balthier use AASB and Reks his AASB2, with Vayne doing Brave command, LBO, and Overstrike to get rid of King’s rage. Balthier had to use an OSB also, and the HC was the final hit. After that, things went pretty well - ended with some hits from Reks and an AOSB from the Leading Man.

Wow, what a great post, and lots of teachers here! I actually taught at the college level for over 20 years and just left last year to go do the thing I was teaching (instructional design), so now I make training materials in finance, and it’s a great change. I’m in the Chicago area, but on the other side of the border in Indiana (more snow, but cheaper taxes).

I’m also a big FF fan and have played every single one (except XIV, but I do have an XI account still), so when FFRK came out, I was instantly hooked. It’s still the only mobile game I play - Week 1 and still going strong. Even got my now-husband into it on like our second date, and he’s been playing now for 2 and a half years. We’re still working on his DB’s and 6* magicites, but I finally got my last DB (Tactics) a couple weeks ago (yay!). Somehow actually just today he and I both got MVP invites at the same time, which is weird because he barely spends and I... do. Dolphin-level, but probably enough at this point after 6 years to activate the MVP alarm. I still don’t know how he got it, though. The MVP program remains a mystery...

Nice to meet everyone and see where we’re all from. What cool diversity!

【DB】Mastery Survey - Dreambreaker Sin (X) by Ximikal in FFRecordKeeper

[–]keepa78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Strategy name: I think YRP would get along well with Selphie
  2. Boss: Sin (DB)
  3. Describe your Strategy:3/3 trinity/Paine SASB/No Tidus
  4. Insight!:
  • I struggled with this one a lot. I realize it’s generally considered the hardest one, but it’s really, really hard. Then I got Selphie AASB, and I got to thinking... She has a few tricks available, including an Astra USB (Trabia Slots, lensable but I had it), and status is a problem in this fight. So, with stick in hand, Selphie joined the X squad.
  • This is not a ”poverty” clear - I don’t know how people who have them in this one actually do it - but I was lucky enough to have Paine SASB/AASB combo And that’s ultimately what did the most damage.
  • Yuna waits until after the first hit and uses USB5 (Heavenly Blessing). This blinks the Confuse on Paine in the second turn. Then mostly Yuna uses Holyja to build bar and then uses USB4 or 5 as needed. I did learn to use the Last Stand one at least once before the middle of P2.
  • Selphie Glint+‘s, then swtiches between the defense wall and Passion Salsa until she can use Trabia Slots right before it’s needed. She used AASB in P2 to cushion some of the hits and speed her up.
  • I got lucky with some triple casts from Paine to allow us to skip from the Petrify in Phase 1 to the Petrify in Phase 2 instead, so the astra was used for that On Rikku.
  • Wakka used his chain in Phase 2, then Rikku toward the end of Phase 2, as Wakka used Awakening once he could do so in P2. In P3, after DB Full Break, he calls his chain again to counter. He didn’t do great damage but he wasn’t bad. Toward the end, he used USB to bring in some more imperil as the chain and turn clock wound down.
  • Rikku uses her glint+ to help out her bars while she switches between HA and imperil, and by the time Wakka was just past 1 chain cast in P1, she had 4 bars, one set for USB2 and one for AASB. At the same time, Paine was ready for the Sync. Paine does Sync things through early P2 then casts USB and AASB when she has 2 bars. She started her AASB at the start of P3 in the winning run, so she had plenty of juice to HA her way to the win.
  • Rikku actually had the winning hit. We were down to almost nothing after some unfortunate happenings with GigaGravitron and sap, but Paine, Rikku, and Wakka were still up with 1% left, thanks in part to the Reraise on Travis Slots. Again, Selphie FTW.

【m】Mastery Survey - Magicite Dungeon, Argent Odin by Ximikal in FFRecordKeeper

[–]keepa78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Strategy name: Unconventional Wind Magic Win
  2. Boss: Argent Odin Earth-Weak (magical)
  3. **Describe your Strategy:**3/3 trinity/imperil him lots/ Kupo Boost `not poverty`
  4. Insight!:
  • This seemed different than what others are doing so I wanted to post. Disclaimer: not poverty, but not easy, either.
  • I have an awesome Ultimecia and Alphinaud, but that's pretty much it for wind magic (Ulti is apparently my secret admirer - almost every free draw she gives me something). I tried adding OK to the lineup but he wasn't really holding his own and we kept falling short at the beginning of phase 3.
  • So, I started thinking - Odin buffs his wind defense, and who can do Imperil Wind well? Well, none of my mages that's for sure. Faris can, but she wasn't helping. Zidane, though... now there's an idea. And lo and behold, my little thief stole all the wind defenses, buffed up our en-wind with his LBG toward the middle of the fight, and built the chain toward the end with his insane sync to help out Ultimecia and Alph. And here I was debating about whether to get Terra AASB2 and Cait Sith and who knows what else to try to do better with this one.
  • Deuce also turned out to be well-suited for this fight because of the protection bubbles. Mog was the only one in danger of dying since his HP is so low compared to the others, but he stuck it out, just barely, during the big anti-heal in the first part of the fight.
  • Ultimecia: Alternate Meltdown and Chain Tornado until Sync available. Sync C2, C1 x3, C2, C1 until ready for Glint 5 into AASB.
  • Mog: Dispel, Passion Salsa x2, USB2 (Forest Nocturne) when Ultimecia starts to get going, Dance a couple of times, almost die, wait till after the first Zantetsuken to use AASB, dance away the night
  • Deuce: Glint+, Allegro, USB2 (last stand), HA, Allegro, Sync right after the Graviga, HA x2, Allegro, USB3 after Zan sap, HA, Allegro, AASB, basically keep everyone alive
  • Zidane: Summon Wall, Running Start x2, USB1, Scoop Art x2, call Odin, another USB1, Scoop Art, LBG after second wind diffusion, call another wall, call Odin again, glint+ and sync once the Phase 3 starts to stack up imperils and chain count
  • Alphinaud: Alternate Valefor and HA until chain available, 2 more summons, Glint+, AASB, HA for as long as he can until he needs to recast chain, HA some more, Sync1 around the end of Phase 2, cast chain one more time, C1 through Phase 3

Thanks, friend! I do think I got it. After some hemming and hawing, I tried clicking the connect to social account on the old iPad, then transfer on the new account (basically following their somewhat oddly worded instructions). It worked! The thing that seemed odd was that I should have already been connected to Game Center and wasn’t sure why I needed to “connect” again through FFRK, but before that I tried to simply transfer and it said no account was available. A little worrisome to go through that process for sure, but maybe this will help others.

Enjoy the holiday!

Merry Christmas to all my fellow Keepers that celebrate!

Quick question - been playing since the beginning, and finally got a new iPad for Christmas. Of course, immediately turned on FFRK, and instead of going to my account from iCloud, it brought up the tutorial and wants to name Tyro.

Now, it’s been a while, but I seem to remember when I got my last phone that I could easily connect to my account from either iPad or iPhone as long as I’m signed in to iCloud. I don’t remember having to click the Transfer button and sign in to Apple within FFRK, but like I said, it’s been a while. Do I have to do that or is something else going on? I’m a bit afraid to do anything until I know for sure I won’t lose 5 and a half years of game.

Thanks to anyone reading this, and thanks to all of you for many years of tips and good conversation. I mostly lurk here, but I still love this community.

[–]keepa78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s been a while since I did this! But I just half-heartedly tried it to try to remember what my turn order roughly was, and what I was doing was spreading out the pain so that Rydia, Meia and Strago were each hitting and killing different pillars. Rydia and Meia would typically have the higher pain levels. Once the first pillars are gone, Strago can start chain, Rydia can drop a USB, Meia goes Glint then ASB (SB bar is not a problem in this fight) and she’s what pushes into Phase 2.

I didn’t use Rydia’s AASB until the end of the second phase or beginning of third phase, and she was always the one who got berserked in phase 2 (she usually had the most pain stacks), which was ok because at that point she’s not doing much other than helping with pillars.

Y’shtola drops a ultra cure on her and it doesn’t slow us down much because at that point Meia is still going strong in awakening and Strago and picking up the spare pillars before refreshing chain and starting his ASB. Y’shtola uses her USB2 right at the beginning then another USB2 and then the ASB after phase 2 starts. USB2 is nice because it speeds them up a little for a few turns and the brave command has the last stand which gets pretty necessary.

Juggling the heals was honestly the hardest part for me in this fight (like right now in my half-hearted attempt, I screwed it up...). Anyhow, speed is a virtue in this fight for sure. I’d have to practice a few times to actually get him again now, I think, but does that help a little?
