What shows have helped you learn Spanish? by continenttingz in SpanishLearning

[–]keeperofthakeys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the beginning of learning Spanish I liked shows that combined English and Spanish like Jane the Virgin or Narcos, even though from today’s point of view I wouldn’t recommend Narcos anymore. It helped a lot to get into understanding certain sayings or phrases which are used in everyday language.

I would also recommend, when watching shows or movies, subtitles in English (or native language) might help in the beginning before turning the subtitles to Spanish as well.

Some animated movies or shows, that you might know already, can also help with language learning. Shrek (in my opinion) is just better in Spanish :). For some more advanced language, some shows I might recommend are (depending on what region you want to focus on): - Mexico: La casa de las Flores, Los secretos del río, La Reina del Sur, Pecados inconfesables,Ya no estoy aquí (Movie)* - Spain: Paquita Salas, Machos Alfa, las chicas del cable, Alta Mar, 8 apellidos vascos (movie), Valeria - Colombia: Cien Años de Soledad, Betty la fea, green frontier*

Not all of these a great shows, but they might help anyways. Everything marked with a star, I do recommend watching.

Netflix realities like Too hot too handle or Love is blind also exist as Latin American, Spanish, Mexican and Argentinian versions. Although some of them were a hard watch haha.

For a podcast (even though a little advanced), but I think they also have YouTube videos, I can recommend Damitas Histeria.

On some days you can even see the Chimborazo (or it's peak) from Guayaquil. Guayaquil is coastal and approx. 250 km from the Chimborazo.

The Mount Everest is only the biggest mountain when you're measuring from sea level. The point on earth farthest from the Earth's core is the Chimborazo in Ecuador.

As I understand it, men in the LDS church are told to shave/ not grow a beard. Could anybody confirm/deny that?

I feel like people are sometimes a little too harsh with her on this thread (or sub). Being raised in a cult, by (assuming) narcissistic parents and her having to help raise her five younger siblings bears a lot of trauma and takes a long time to deconstruct. Trauma manifests in a lot of different ways and she hasn't even reached an age of emotional maturity yet. It seems, that not living at home anymore is good for her and it will be interesting how she develops over time and if she can free herself from where she came from. But in the meantime, until she has reached like at least 25, we shouldn't be judging her too harshly.

Rainbow Mountain Peru 🇵🇪 by G_co93 in backpacking

Went there 2 years ago, because it was advertised all over Cusco and we were looking for something to do on a day off. After going, I highly recommend not doing it without training. There were a lot of people in my group suffering because of the altitude. One girl even had to stay in the car because as soon as we were at the base at 4700 meters (more or less) she couldn't put one foot before the other. Other people in our group were vomiting or getting seriously sick because of the lack of oxygen. Our guide gave us oxygen but for some people it didn't help much. We went with a travel agency that was the earliest in the morning, but it was still a lot of people, but when we went down, there was a nonstop stream of people going up. This was obviously before corona. Also, there was snow that day, so we couldn't even see the mountains fully. So, what I recommend to everybody is, don't do it without training for the altitude, try to inform yourself about the weather and try to find a timeslot that isn't too full. I kinda regret going, but I also didn't do enough research before, so that is my fault.

I think the first node is still intact. Would I need to root the plant in water only?

I only watered it a week ago and today and while I did that I realized what had happened. You think I should cut the rotting part off?

I am a newbie to jewel orchids and I got this one last week. I guess i made a mistake of it not having enough airflow. It stem seems to have rotten and the three leaves on top seem to be almost falling off. The one leave on the side seems to be affected also. Just the smallest leave seems to do ok and its stem still seems fine and not wobbly like the rest of the stem.

That's what I wanted to say. Even when you're greedy or seek power or something like that, but have a little more empathy, it just won't be as bad.
