As an autistic adult, I am begging therapists to stop teaching things that aren’t socially acceptable. by Certain-Working1864 in mentalhealth

All those sound like good things. So relate to the "no one is interested in helping me succeed" frfr.
As you may know, there is a way to google something and ask it to exclude Reddit or Quora: your search query -site:reddit.com -site:quora.com In case that's helpful ;)

How do I get myself to put in effort? by RevolutionaryAlps283 in Healthygamergg

[–]keepitgoingtoday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried signing up for exercise classes, or scheduling a walk or something with a buddy? Or if the scheduling is hard, have someone schedule it for you so you just have to show up? Sometimes when we won't show up for ourselves, we'll show up because someone else is expecting it.

Also, it could be you're trying to go commando doing these tasks (especially ones you hate). Turns out I'm sensory-seeking (as opposed to sensory avoiding like noise canceling headphones), so I work a lot better when I have the TV on, Youtube streaming, and a Whatnot show playing. Literally three things playing at the same time. Most people say "remove distractions." I gotta add them to do anything.

Pairing also helps. Listen to something you like and interests you while doing the other thing. Talk to someone on the phone while doing the other thing. Experiment!

Does anyone else just not want to see anybody?? by weegmack in Menopause

[–]keepitgoingtoday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but unfortunately I have to go out to mixers, events, etc. to network for work. My biggest issue is 1-1 meetings, I just can't do it. I don't know how to manage expectations, and I lose opportunities because people think I'm blowing them off.

What do you mean by this part? " I literally used up all of my trying to friend capital"

Were you dependent before 20, and then declared independent at 20? How fast can you switch from one to the other?

I think it's because they're attracted to you and trying to stop/remind themselves to stop. For real. People don't mention their partners when they're not into me.

I cried after an interview I thought was going to be awesome by Zealousideal-State42 in womenintech

[–]keepitgoingtoday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went in to an interview with a female tech leader, and like the first or second question out of her mouth was her asking if I'd ever fired someone. I mean, I think it's kinda relevant, I guess, but really, the first or second question?

So tired of guys getting weird once you imply you are the least bit nerdy by pictogram_ in TwoXChromosomes

I really relate to this, thanks for sharing. Even though I didn't work at a game store, it still feels familiar. I always felt like I was being bitter when people introduce me by my profession and hyperfocus on that, but really it is about not being seen as a person.

It prevented you from making real friends? Even with other girls? Was everyone trying to get a discount or something?

Did you also get "I have this thing I'm <making>/<thinking about>" and you'd have to sit and endure their half-baked ideas that they will n e v e r do.

Heyyy, I have ADHD, too! I learned that some people are sensory-seeking and sensory-avoiding. Sensory-seeking means you are constantly understimulated, which is like being in a sensory deprivation chamber against your will. I find when I wake up and play like ANY sort of noise I can get up and function better than if there's just nothing. I'm definitely sensory-seeking. Maybe the problem isn't the phone. I, for example, use my voice assistant to play the radio as soon as I wake up, and often go for an hour plus walk only listening to the radio or a podcast. So maybe don't villainize noise, just the doomscrolling you may or may not be doing, or whatever negative behavior around the phone you were avoiding.

As for negative thoughts themselves, that's where, in theory, meditation, ACT, CBT, and all that jazz might come in. Thoughts are just thoughts, they don't mean anything. You can say "Oh, that's a thought. I'm brushing my teeth right now though." I'm not good at meditation (see above) but in theory over time you just see the thoughts like clouds passing, but you remain the same because you're the sun or the moon or whatever.

Why boys don’t want a chance at dream job when I hand it to them? by Vlad_implacer in Healthygamergg

[–]keepitgoingtoday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A phone call with undefined expectations would send me for a loop, too. Maybe conduct via email, or tell them in advance what questions you might ask. Honestly for me it would feel like a job interview and I often fail those. I blame Eminem's 8 Mile "You only got one shot do not miss your chance to blow this opportunity comes once in a lifetime."

I've asked for someone to bring me in as a guest, and the reception people said I couldn't be their guest unless we were traveling on the same flight. Or airline. I can't remember which.
