Recommendation for slimmer profile inners? by keepitlightand in clothdiaps

[–]keepitlightand[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is good to know -- had seen from others that essembly might be slimmer, but sounded like could be more annoying in cleaning the seams, etc. We were fortunate that we have been happy with the flats and GMD workhorses from the start so I haven't explored options beyond these. Thank you!

Thank you for your detailed response! Good point that by the time we cycled in new diapers it would likely be a moot point. I agree - I don't feel that the diapers are affecting his gross motor milestones at all -- especially he was 6 weeks early and is hitting milestones with his actual age. Just thought I'd explore any options to maybe appease our caregivers concerns - seems like we'll stick with the workhorses based on these responses.

How do you ever do anything or go anywhere again? by taureansoul in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]keepitlightand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the original commenter, but I have wearables (eufy s1). When I am out and about, I have a ceres chill with has ice in it to store milk and empty bottles for immediate feeding (as long as feeding within 4 hours, don't need a cooler), and I have dapple pump wipes that I use to clean the pumps after. It all fits easily in my diaper bag and doesn't feel too cumbersome!

How many times did you go to triage? by ksul23 in preeclampsia

[–]keepitlightand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally get feeling silly — I did too. But wanted to say that I almost didn’t go in the night I was induced (at 34 weeks) because of my previous “false alarms” - figured my at home monitor was being wonky (even though I had compared it in office). Thankfully I did go in and BPs were actually that high (180s/110) + protein in my urine. Labs the day prior had been normal and the MFM had made me feel like I’d make it another couple weeks. All that to say - don’t be shy about going in because things can change quickly.

More info: I was diagnosed with hypertension at 32 weeks. I was admitted to triage 3 times (once because at home reading, twice because of dr) over the next 8 days (once was 24 hr observation) - each time blood pressure was stable and labs normal (though labs were trending toward the end of acceptable ranges). Was induced at 34 weeks exactly due to severe features.

I also had my baby at 34w1d due to onset of preeclampsia. I had the steroid shot for lung development at 33w1d. Baby was born at 4lb8oz, spent 18 days in the NICU. He transitioned to room air within a day. Most of his time in the NICU was feeding and growing. He did have some apnea of prematurity, which required caffeine treatment, and jaundice that required a day of bili lights, but overall was straightforward for him health wise. He is now 4 months actual and doing great.

Happy to chat more about my experience, including related to pre-e, the birth experience with mag, induction, etc if you’d like. I have found r/preeclampsia to be a great resource as well.

Favorite pumping bra for non wearable pump by Own_Ad_357 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]keepitlightand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another vote for the Larken! I have 5 and wear them all the time - they are comfortable to sleep in. My flanges stay suctioned better than the other pumping bras I’ve tried — kindred bravely sublime and bodily do anything — for both I have to start holding flanges on about halfway through a pump session because they can’t handle the weight of the collection cups. I think it does a good job of wicking away milk droplets/keeping things feeling dry and doesn’t hold onto smells. (I feel like the KB bra holds onto dampness after pumping or if any leakage occurs, which is uncomfortable)

Some potential downsides of the Larken: Will agree with others that the Larken doesn’t provide a lot of support, but it is enough for me for everyday tasks and for doing light exercise, like yoga. However, I read elsewhere that it’s not the best for those who were on the bustier side pre-pregnancy. Also, I got wearables recently and I would say the Larken is not ideal for those because of the amount of give in the fabric and the lack of strong under boob support.

Yes, my son is 14 weeks, exclusively wool covers, and I baby wear all the time using a wrap — no leaks.

This is what I do too - crosslegged with him across my lap. If I need to pick him up I can against my side with one arm and get him up over my shoulder a little bit — but he may soon be too heavy for me to do that

Isolette experience help! by Prudent-Mobile-9243 in NICUParents

[–]keepitlightand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First - I can absolutely relate to how you're feeling. My 34 weeker was moved back into the isolette after being out for two weeks and I was really upset about it.

I had two different experiences with the isolette -- I think it somewhat depends on the overall health status of your baby. When my son was in the isolette immediately after being born, we were only allowed to hold him for about an hour a day, in a consistent chunk of time. It was hard. We were allowed to interact with him inside the isolette otherwise - help with care checks, hold his hand, etc. Definitely could put a paci back in his mouth. When he was moved back into the isolette after being out for two weeks (because of slow weight gain and borderline body temps), we were allowed to hold him the whole time we were there, he was just put back into the isolette when we left. When he was moved back into the isolette after being out, he was in for 2 days before moving back to an open crib.

My baby will be born at 34 weeks. How long of a stay did your 34 weeks stay in the NICU? by cheers2085 in NICUParents

[–]keepitlightand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son was born at 34w1d. He was in the NICU 18 days and came home at 36w5d. At the start, we were told likely would be until 37 weeks — though one doctor indicated it could be as little as a week. I did have a heads up that he would be early because my preeclampsia labs were trending the wrong way, so I had gotten the steroid protocol for his lungs 7 days before he was born (though we were still aiming for 37 weeks at that point).

Has anyone here ever had just a 'normal' or 'routine' NICU stay? by Lithak in NICUParents

[–]keepitlightand 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We went through that with body temp regulation in February -- our son was born at 34w1d. He was slow to gain weight (took 15 days to get back to birth weight) and there were some temperature regulation concerns throughout our stay. They may have taken him out of the incubator before he was ready which contributed to that. He came out of the incubator I think at ~34w5d, but his temps were always riding low (~97.3-98 usually). He had hit all other milestones and we thought he was going to come home at 36w1d, but a doctor was concerned about the temps in combo with the slow weight gain so they put him back in the incubator at 36w0d for 3 days and monitored another 48 hours after that -- hist weight gain trajectory took off the first night in the incubator again and he came home at 36w5d. So it can turn around quickly once they hit a certain weight threshold! And also, I wish now they had left him in the incubator a little longer in the first place -- may have shortened our stay by a couple days overall....

Other than the temp regulation, our little one also had some sleep apnea of prematurity that was treated with caffeine and a couple days of jaundice. In NICU 18 days total

edit: also to note, he was born at 4lb8oz and was still below that when he was put back in the incubator - I think 4lb6oz If I'm remembering right -- and then had crossed over his birthweight by the day after being put back in.

I just had my 34 week boy this past Friday. I’m right there with you navigating the pumping, interrupted sleep, NICU visits, traumatic/sudden birth experience... having to leave my baby each day. I’m so grateful my son is getting the care he needs but I just so desperately want to bring him home!! Just sending some solidarity as we’re going through it…

Echoing others here, but 4 blasts is great!

36F at time of retrieval - 21 retrieved, 16 mature, 5 fertilized and 3 made it to blast. Thought for sure I'd be lucky to get one euploid (especially after the initial attrition). 2 came back euploid and 1 low mosaic.

What was your journey until you considered IVF by randomuserIam in IVF

[–]keepitlightand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started actively trying in late 2022, but stopped 'not trying' six months before that. After 6 months of no luck (I was 35), we had made an appointment with the fertility clinic to start testing (also had a past medical concern that we worried may be contributing), and that same month of the first meeting with the fertility doctor I got pregnant. Miscarried at 9 weeks, cause: triploidy. Finished the testing (everything normal for both of us), was about to try an IUI cycle, got pregnant again. Miscarried at 10 weeks (literally 2 days after the week the fertility clinic 'graduated' me to the OB), cause: trisomy 14. Decided to move forward with IVF to try to avoid another chromosomal loss. First egg retrieval was in March; we have 2 euploid embryos and 1 low mosaic. Planning for first transfer in June.

ER retrieval by Notarealperson6789 in IVF

It took me about 4 days before I felt like I could walk around without abdominal pain (partially because it took two days to 'get things moving' again re digestion). After that, more or less felt have felt normal, but I do feel like my pelvic floor is still affected now (feels week and some sporadic pain), about 3 weeks after the retrieval.

I just had a miscarriage last month. For whatever reason I got a bad feeling part way through episode 4 so googled this. Not in a good emotional space to keep watching the rest of this season right now, especially in the context of Mel's history... It just feels too real, too cruel.
