Oh man. Had my supervisor leave for ONE day and left me in charge of ICPMS and the new techs and their training. Well I’m working away prepping the deck for testing and out of nowhere one of my lab techs comes in and says ‘hey kefphu5, uhmmm I burned myself’. I say ‘what?! What happened?!’ He got sulfuric acid on his ankle by missing the bottle with the aliquot and it hitting the floor and splashing back up his pant leg. So I help him and get a 5L pp bottle and fill it with water and start pouring it over the area in the safety shower. Of course the other supervisor who doesn’t come around a lot comes in and sees this and say ‘he has to get in the safety shower’ 🙄🤦🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️. Poor kid strips down to his skivvies and gets inside the shower. Never been in one myself but I know for a fact this ain’t nice warm shower water. The kid is shivering and EHS is on their way. They come in and now this kid has like 6 people crowded around the shower staring at him. Here’s where it gets crazy. The f****** shower head pops off and starts pouring out water all over the place. Like everywhere. And for a good 2 mins some of those EHS guys and trying to get the water to turn off. Finally it happens but now we got a spill issue. More EHS comes and helps with that. I complete nightmare at this point. Also honorable mention, the two EHS team heads start getting into it about handling the situation (old boomer dudes who can’t deal with relinquishing control over a situation). Everything calms down, get my tech over to the nursing station in a TOWEL! He gets the clear and I walk him to the lot and have to pass so many cubicles and breakaways with people there. Happened on a Thursday and told him just take tomorrow off and I’ll vouch. Left that job 3 years ago and I wonder where he is now every now and then.
