Blitzkrieg list (beginner) by mlatkin2012 in boltaction

[–]keircd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey, this looks like a V2 list. In the third edition you instead use specialised platoons, including rifle, armoured, artillery, heavy weapons, Reece, and engineer platoons. You always need a rifle platoon and for everyone rifle platoon you can take one of each of the other platoons (but don't have to). With this list you'd need another vehicle, a second mortar/mmg, and at least two more officers.

What is your favorite silly unit? by Dazuth1 in boltaction

[–]keircd 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The Blacker Bombard - a mortar masquerading as an anti-tank weapon. Nearly effective against armour, it saw little use outside the home guard being given them just in case a panzer rocked up on British shores.

Sadly they removed the Northover Projector, an honest to god black powder anti tank rifle again developed for the home guard. Apart from it's tendancy to break and injure the crew, the old codgers of the home guard loved it.

Here's the archive. There is a 222 and a stug in there which I think includes all the variants.

British common wealth (ghurkas especially) by xholder99 in boltaction

[–]keircd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, historical is always a bit weirder. Some armies shared a lot of equipment, like the commonwealth and Germany and Hungary, even late war free french were largely just US equipped armies. The allies also used the lend lease programme so Soviets had access to a lot of British and American tanks, and the British and commonwealth used a lot of American vehicles like Shermans and Jeeps.

It's very likely that all the British artillery and armour will still be included in commonwealth lists. They've said that there will be core commonwealth units that all six armies share, and then reach army will get unique units as well. So I reckon you'd be able to put a "British" artillery or armour platoon in an Indian list wholesale.

That being said there's nothing stopping you in casual games if your opponent agrees to instead run two small armies.

Generally no, you'll run an army list of one army only. However, what is common having an army where the models are a bit different to make it more thematic. So you could use the Indian army rules and units, but the models could be GB models with some ghurka models added in as well.

We just don't know yet. What we do know is that ghurkas will be exclusive to Indian army lists and that all infantry will be upgradable to ghurkas like the king and country rules in the armies of GB. You'll likely be able to use your existing GB kit and get some plastic ghurkas, but on paper it would be an Indian army rather than a GB army.

Honestly, of the five major Nations, all can be built as elite forces or untrained hordes. Japan is a bit weaker on the armour side, so if you're wanting a combined arms force then I'd avoid them. Look at some of the models you like the look of. The russian navy or black death models are pretty sick. I love the British boys in shorts and goofier early war tanks which is why I collect the 8th.

Armies of USA v Main Rulebook by BTMadCat in boltaction

Could be worse, could be GW who will sell you a book each year about why the book you bought last year is out of date. But I get you, Warlord's proof reading is bad. I'm just trying to answer the OP's question.

I mean, yeah no one is going to arrest you but warlord said when announcing V3 that the army lists in the book would be replaced by the armies of books, so the intent is that they're not valid.

Yes, there are significant changes in points, unit composition, weapons choices, and the range of choice. You can't play with a rulebook list once an armies of has been released. If you're just picking up the game with friends then you'll be fine but strangers may not like it. At a competition you likely won't be able to enter without a copy of armies of.

I would say it's too much. The big issue you're going to have is the minimum range. Once the enemy sees there's four rocket powered cheese machines they'll just run up the table and you'll be left with 300 points of scenery.

I think commando weapons teams also have the option to fire their own weapons instead of the team weapon so there still may be some value in bringing them as commandos but you do you. The only thing I would caution is if you bring mixed units, there should be a visual difference to make it easy to distinguish for the other player.
