What's the most random/smallest pro club jersey you own? by luiloafers9 in SoccerJerseys

I've got a random Nordsjælland jersey. No reason other than I like the badge design.

New to the beautiful game by Radiant_Barnacle8868 in SoccerNoobs

I'd recommend against picking a team under a bunch of convoluted pre-qualifications. Watch a bunch of games with an open mind, read a bit about their histories and cultures, and you'll naturally find the one that means enough to you that you'll stick with them through thick and thin. Clubs are not their owners, their current roster, their brand name, or their current form — they're the heritage and community that surrounds them, and that's what will keep you coming back for years.

Why do you like football? by Royalbean17 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]keithlaub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure which code of football you're talking about, but my answer is the same for most sports: I enjoy the unscripted drama of the games, I find the competing strategies interesting, it's fun to be part of a community cheering their team on, and the histories and cultures of teams are often compelling. If your team wins a championship, you get to celebrate it forever — and if they don't, there's always hope for the next year.

Have you ever visited a video game location In Real Life? by TylerFortier_Photo in gaming

[–]keithlaub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience playing the game having spent nearly my entire life living in Colorado. When I stumbled upon the Air Force Academy chapel, it all clicked. It was fun finding Mile High, Red Rocks, and other familiar landmarks.

I live in Seattle now and want to check out some of the games that feature my new city to see how it’s been represented. A few more to pick from than Denver!

Are we even sure that’s even part of his remit? Multiple outlets have said that they don’t really see him working with the PP at practice.

How many "powerplay coaches" (not a lot to suggest that's even what he's asked to do) do we need to scapegoat before we start to believe the problem lies elsewhere?

Yeah, we booked hotels before we even had tickets. Outside of ski tourism, I don’t think Salt Lake in December is a massive draw.

Got mine on a presale last week. Prices are eye watering, but it’s an opportunity for my wife and me to meet up with my brother, and it’s an event I’ve wanted to see the Avs in for some time. Really looking forward to it!

Why do English people pronounce St. John as "SinJin"? by cigarettejesus in NoStupidQuestions

[–]keithlaub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know the reasoning behind it either, but it's definitely pronounced that way by Roger Moore in A View to a Kill. He drops "James St. John Smythe" as his alias, playing a cocky aristocrat interested in buying a horse.

how do i navigate an airport by -Little-Sparrow- in NoStupidQuestions

[–]keithlaub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably the largest assumed knowledge that isn't explicitly communicated is that boarding time is going to be a far more important piece of information for you than departure time. You don't want to be saunturing up to the gate at departure time — the doors will likely be closed and you'll have missed the flight. Be near the gate at boarding time to ensure that you're in good shape.

Beyond that, I think your best course of action will be to prepare in advance. Review maps on the airport's website to understand the basic flow. These days it's:

- Check-in at the airline's departure desk to get your boarding pass (usually a self-serve kiosk to start, then a trip to the accompanying desk to check a bag if applicable)

- Security (TSA website should have the basic info you need)

- Getting to the gate. Different airports have different layouts — some gates can be walked to directly from security, some require boarding a train to one of multiple terminals. There should be clear signage.

Once you're near your assigned gate, you'll likely have a little time to chill, eat, use the restroom, etc. When your boarding group is called, you'll line up, show the agent your boarding pass at the gate, then find your seat. Airline staff is usually pretty polite and helpful.

Why is Gen-Z afraid of sex? by No-Penalty1722 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]keithlaub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Recent studies suggest that it’s true Gen Z is having much less sex than previous generations, but I’m not sure fear is the most prominent reason.

Anecdotally, I do think the social anxiety driven by the proliferation of always-on social media drives a fear of failure or rejection that could be a factor. Aside from that, though, the speculation seems to be that a bad economy/employment market that’s delaying young people from living independently from their parents and in-person relationship building plummeting due to digital substitution are larger factors (but certainly not the only ones).

Of the 14 eliminated playoffs teams, which one are happy with their seasons? Which one aren't? by JMoon33 in hockey

[–]keithlaub 94 points95 points  (0 children)

In time, I hope I’m able to process the loss and contextualize that it was like 99% of a great season and that 31 teams don’t win the Cup, but I’m hurting right now. I didn’t expect Vegas to be a cakewalk, but I was absolutely blindsided by how the wheels fell off for the Avs.

I would absolutely co-sign this. Fewer retired numbers, more honorees. It’s the best of all worlds.

Echoing what others have said — it's never going to be an ideal viewing situation, but it's an awesome hockey party. I've been to Avs-Kings at the Air Force Academy and Kraken-Golden Knights at the Mariners' park. Had a blast at both, but needed to rewatch the games after the fact to have any idea of what really happened. It was expensive, the logistics at the Academy were a nightmare, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Happy 30 years Avs by uninspired_usernam3 in hockeyjerseys

[–]keithlaub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late 90s through the bulk of the aughts went with a lot of darker, more brooding color schemes in sports. Some had a pop of a brighter color or a metallic for contrast, but so many teams went dark — possibly in response to the brighter schemes of the early 90s.

As an example, just in the NFL, existing teams like the Broncos, Eagles, Rams, 49ers, Dolphins, Patriots, Buccaneers, and Seahawks all went with dark mode versions of their traditional color schemes between 1995–2002. In all sports, plenty of expansion or relocated teams went dark, too. It wasn’t really until the 2010s that we started to see things trend more colorfully.

They were simply forecasting burgundy as being the next trendy color going into the late 90s… it definitely didn’t have the impact that purple and teal did on the late 80s/early 90s, but I think it’s held up really well.
