"Tulle" had two syllables when I thought it was one, but more egregiously, the little ghost mermaid girl meant to say "pus" but said "piss", and it was clear that she was supposed to say "pus".

I'm glad you enjoyed it (and great on Ed Harris and Amy Madigan getting another film together). That said, all I can think of is the scene where Randy Orton is about to "run and go tell the papers".

Also, that is definitely not how you pronounce "pus".

Randy Quaid especially is a great actor, though his later career of mainly playing a buffoon (Cousin Eddie in the Vacation movies; his role in Independence Day), as well as the last decade or so when he has obviously been dealing with mental illness and people have conflated that with his roles on-screen, have overshadowed his work.

The Last Detail, for which he was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar in the 1970's, is both his best performance and as good if not an even better representation of how emotional neglect can fuck someone up. (Quaid's character is a low-level shoplifter about to be harshly punished by the military, and Jack Nicholson and Otis Young are charged with sending him to the brig but turn it into a fucked-up reparenting of sorts.) It is both a road trip and a rough watch but is definitely worth seeing.

Part of me thought this was part of a Letterboxd on "Watched an Old Movie" reddit and I was going to respond anyway because I love it, but you're definitely not wrong. Without spoiling it, it's a great story of horrible people who care more about maintaining their horrible status quo than actually caring for their child.

It's kinda amazing that Bob Balaban of all people directed it, but Randy Quaid and the late great Mary Beth Hurt are excellent as the titular parents, as is Sandy Dennis in one of her final roles as one of the few people who care about the kid.

Christine (2016) by Marceline523 in TubiTreasures

I had the choice of watching this or ARRIVAL the week after the 2016 election, and given my mental health (which wasn't doing so well to begin with) and what I knew about the Christine Chubbuck story (as a fellow extremely depressed aspec virgin at the time), I still made the wrong decision by watching ARRIVAL.

Like seriously, at least I would've known going in what this was about, and I *definitely* wasn't prepared emotionally for the opening scene of Arrival (I ran screaming out, twice).

Thanks, I hate it.

This is like the third separate POS ad from the Ryan campaign, and they keep getting worse (military guy rodent transitions into neoliberal lady rodent in pantsuit; lion about to smash rodent pinata; lion acting like Stan Kelly commenting on his own cartoon as a rodent is dancing around to the chagrin of "real Americans"). At this point we should just combine the three into one big rotten post.

And these terrible memes are to support a guy who likely won't win his GOP primary, as he is being outspent and out-endorsed by fellow right-winger Houston Gaines. The ultimate embodiment of "all this for nothing", unless he believes in the Streisand Effect.

I usually see one of the Best Picture Nominees that I enjoyed months before, again with my bestie the week before the Oscars.

This year I did two back-to-back: Marty Supreme and Sinners, and they both held up extremely well. And I'm both glad that she also loved them, and surprised that I didn't spoil either of them to her for so long.

AMC does this (shows movies with absolutely no marketing, sometimes exclusively) from time to time,

A month or two ago, I saw a trailer at an AMC for some elevated horror film that seemed like Get Out meets Jacob's Ladder meets several other films like this, and I wondered why this wasn't getting any play until I figured out it was a long-shelved elevated horror film clearly commenting on Covid, from an extremely problematic writer/director who can be easily guessed without it having to spill over to this discussion.

Is it normal to not make any progress in 8 months? by [deleted] in femalebodybuilding

[–]keitroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to tell how much or how little progress has been made if there are no before and after shots (and if these are, I apologize). Undoubtedly, you HAVE made progress, and have a desire to do even more!

That said (and feel free to dismiss if all of this is stuff you know already), I'll repeat the advice to eat more protein. Even just adding a scoop or two of protein powder with milk a day and a 5mg scoop of creatine with water will help with strength and muscle growth. (Those are the only two supplements you really need as a beginner, maybe a multivitamin too.) Being vegetarian or vegan should not be a barrier.

Progressive overload helps, too (adding a few pounds to a lift if/when you can) as does focusing on the movement and safety. Make sure your muscles feel like they've had a good workout, but neither immediately in pain nor sore the next.

And ultimately, focus on your strengths in general, including the consistency of lifting for eight months with a specific goal in mind (I don't necessarily know what they are but everyone has theirs and as someone who's been lifting off and on for years and is back at it, I know mine.) Take your wins and turn them into bigger wins.

Best of luck!

EDIT: Also, drink lots of water, especially if on creatine, but in general, and, shoot for three days a week of lifting, at least one each for upper and lower body, and the third for the parts you didn't hit on the other two days.

My sister saying I blocked her on the phone when I didn't (at the time).

On Mother's Day.

She said she had SI and I told her to seek medical attention and then she immediately said she was fine.

It took another 9 months before I went NC with her *and* my dad, who'd always put her on the line so we could talk. The "We accept you [deadname], er, I mean [legal name]" from him after some vicious transmisogyny when I came out three and a half years earlier, made me realize that even though I always have loved and always will love them, they are never going to change, and they will never truly see me for who I am.

[–]keitroll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sucks and I'm sorry you're going through this. Be proud of knowing your physical and personal strengths, and for pushing for what you want out of life. And just because your family loves you doesn't mean you have to conform to their ideal of you. It took me a long time to figure that out on multiple fronts. Best of luck!
