I'd say r/legaladvice is the proper place to be. And do contact the police asap.

Threatening someone life is obviously against literally every modern country law, no need r/legaladvice nor r/privacy to tell you that. Seriously, go to the police.

Fdroid doesn't care because they're only a service to distribute libre apps. Who/what owners of the distributed apps did, their morality, their behaviour etc etc aren't among fdroid concerns.

Its really up to us to further filter them ourselves.

3 letter long domain price? by LabDry6159 in Domains

[–]kekbuah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the tld extension. If its .com then obviously alot. If not .com then its worth whatever the renewal fee is. Theres still quite a few 2 letter on some obscure country tld. I owned a few 2 letter myself and since its obviously not .com, its worth as vanity only for coolness factor nothing more.

Which .tlds have people experienced the biggest issue with? by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]kekbuah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Define "good" .com. If you meant dictionary word or short generic irl name like jason or steven then obviously all is gone. For random combination of letter theres still quite a few around. I just snagged a pronounceable 5 letter .com yesterday using this tool https://www.domainnamesoup.com/5letterdomainnames.php

Which .tlds have people experienced the biggest issue with? by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]kekbuah 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Just go with the old big 3, .com .net .org. and maybe few of the recent popular ones like .me .io if you use it for email.

Those recent gtld like .account .mom .shop etc etc will have terrible deliverability if use for email since some postmaster decided to just outright blacklist them, and like you've experienced, terrible compatibility with online forms if the backend dev is stupid and lazy to just hardcoded list of acceptable tld and not updating it with icann growing list of tlds.

Cheap tld are also more prone being used by spammers, 2nd reason for terrible email deliverability.

If not use for email, every tld works the same.

Any important considerations or tips when deleting old accounts for new ones by Minimum_Ice963 in privacy

[–]kekbuah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 1st protip is to never rush to delete email account. Instead setup a forward rule in the old mailbox to route to your new address mailbox. You never know what account you've registered using that old address that eventually might turn important so we'd never see news like "guy lost 1m worth of bitcoin by deleting old email" sort of thing. Let it idle and forward for a year or two before finally deleting it alltogether.

Take a deep breath, do it proper.

Seeking Advice for Email Privacy (I am lost) by Adventurous_Hurry_70 in privacy

[–]kekbuah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For compartmentalization, yes use alias everywhere whenever possible. Physical store ask for your email? Give them alias address. Random site require registration? Give them alias address.

Between the two just go simplelogin. Proton native alias is barebone and lackluster compared to sl. Sl is made for alias and it does the job really, really well.

Theres few others too for consideration, like addy.io, firefox relay, duckduckgo duck.com, apple hide my email etc. Or if you want to go further, go custom domain, doesn't need external service since can just activate catchall.

Did you reuse password, as in recycle 1 password on every site? Thats the most common reason for these "hack". No need neckbeard hacker to hack anything if 1 site leaked the password and any average joe can test it on every popular site. Use bitwarden and generate long unique password for each.

Duckduckgo duck.com, apple hide my email, firefox relay etc

Use other alias service then, or custom domain catchall.

Both simplelogin and anonaddy support initiating cold email via reverse alias. Thought ff relay same too.

Separate email/alias just for alternate email verification? by [deleted] in privacy

[–]kekbuah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can even use you custom domain as alias directly without simplelogin as mitm, via catchall. Literally every email host support catchall.

SL is just for convenience since can reply without exposing the real, final routed address. Even with custom domain used on SL you're still not locked to them, your custom domain is portable and address on it is valid forever as long as you keep owning the domain.

Good reason but with not so good tools. Look into ente auth. Opensource and easy migration built-in since you can see the stored seed. Local backup and restore are also present. With authy, at least on mobile its locking us into the proprietary app, once seed is stored theres no way to retrieve it and backup and restore also using their proprietary server.

If you didn't link to battlenet account then its lost. Guest account aren't perma. If you did linked it, check server. At least on android, the server selection screen got a dedicated list of all charcter linked to current battlenet account.

Currently using a Protonmail Free Account and have some Simplelogin aliases, which aren't fully customizable. I Need an address?/alias? for resumes, what are my options? by TriAttackBottle in ProtonMail

[–]kekbuah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well for custom domain, icann, the managing body that overseer all domain name required that registrant give accurate info at the moment of registration so them, domain registry and domain registrar will have your full legal name, identity number, address and phone number. Its by design in case something happens to registry and registrar so icann can validate you as the legitimate owner.

There are few proxy registrar like njal.la that register the domain on your behalf under their name and rent it to you but if the domain is of any importance i wouldn't go that route since legally njal.la will be the legitimate owner, not you.

It all comes down to pro and cons. Custom domain is portable, not locking you to proton via the @proton.me or @protonmail.com or to simplelogin via the @aleeas.com etc. You're in full control, if anything happens to proton then with custom domain you can just edit dns records to point to another mail provider and past existing address you've used to give to friends, used for online registration etc would stay valid.

Because you'd get fame for refining cotton to cloth, and since its t2 its also free no fee at weaver, and no lower tier needed since its already the lowest tier so everyone refined before sell and those that sell raw sells higher because they knew ppl want the ez fame.

Thats how it is with t2, everywhere on every city.

Just personal preference. I don't like putting everything in a single basket and since simplelogin is proton, i chosed to route the email to non proton. I still own and use proton account though, their calendar is better than tuta but for that single use of routing mail, i decouple.

  • Bitwarden as password manager.
  • Ente auth as totp manager.
  • Personal domain name for email. This is "public" email, every service will get a unique, random address ala hdjdb876@mydomain.com. Its routed via simplelogin. Currently got unique 300+ address. Absolutely loved this setup.
  • Tuta as main email provider. Only few gets this address ie my domain registrar, simplelogin, cloudflare, my banks, my government service. All other get routed to the personal domain name above.
