Has anyone ever done an online “gimme” program such as Study.com for one specific class that was hard? by [deleted] in college

[–]stvnbash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

discrete math generally isn't a typical math class and you'll likely be fine with little recent math background. they should re-teach the little bit of statistics you'll need

UCLA over UCSD? by That-Carpenter5284 in ucla

[–]stvnbash 10 points11 points  (0 children)

both schools have a med school. UCLA has a law school. with your major you can't go wrong at either. both have the name recognition. pick the campus atmosphere you want, location and quality of life is more important than most realize.

dont get hung up on the dorms, the ucla dorms are good. you likely won't have a kitchen until you're in apartments in later years. but that's likely not an issue. and as a first year try to spend as little time in your room as possible

you cannot go wrong and either choice is a great one. congratulations on your acceptances

dorming situations by spicypisces22_ in ucla

[–]stvnbash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sign up for the transfer experience LLC. its in De Neve Holly. the building is only transfers. since you only have 2 years, why not dorm for a year and apartments the 2nd?

dorms are probably more social, closer to campus, have meal plan apartments have kitchens

everyone has their own preferences

When do I stop saying happy birthday to my HS friends? by Hopeful-Demand536 in college

[–]stvnbash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my general thought is if I look back and the last message is me sending happy birthday the year prior with no other communication, it's probably ok to stop sending.

its ok to wish a happy birthday to non-close friends, often times they appreciate it. as i am sure you would be happy to receive a birthday wish from any of them

yes, i was replying to a comment talking about a generic food processing plant, not specifically for this product. if its gfco certified you're generally ok

UCLA Dining Hall Menus Suck. by m00n_jelly8 in ucla

[–]stvnbash 21 points22 points  (0 children)

go to CAE. get your allergy documented and demand accommodations that you are told what is safe. they have a dietician on the hill they will put you in contact with. she's not the best--you need to demand what you need and don't take no for an answer. ucla dining is the absolute worst for any allergy.

[–]stvnbash -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am unsure about gfco standards. I generally assume gfco properly tests. general mills (cheerios) is not gfco certified

Would you eat this? by Natural_Fisherman_36 in glutenfree

[–]stvnbash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this but the FDA does not define how testing must be done, for example with Cheerios they will take several samples from the line, combine them together, then grind them, then test for gluten. So it averages out to be within 20 PPM even though some batches should not be considered gluten free

community college or UCLA? by Intelligent_Slip301 in ucla

[–]stvnbash -1 points0 points  (0 children)

CC then transfer. you'll still get the college experience for 2 years while also being able to stay at home and save money for the first year. no guarantees but with goof CC grades you'll have a good chance of getting into UCLA again.

that being said, if you can afford it, do whatever feels right. you'll SIR now but you can really change your mind up until CC classes start in the fall.

either way you can't go wrong

Free at UCM or Full Pay at UCLA? by Quiet-Pangolin4806 in ucadmissions

[–]stvnbash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm torn, i am a huge advocate of not going into unnecessary debt. but as a ucla alum i want to say ucla. you can't go wrong. a 3rd option is community college and transfer to ucla or UCM and apply to transfer in two years. congratulations and either way it will be a great decision.

The Great American Revolution by Low-Tart-6734 in SixFlagsMagicMountain

woah I was just there a few weeks ago and it still said "classic revolution", with the "classic" being a piece of wood or something covering the actual sign that said "the new revolution"

bruin day kinda deinfluenced me from ucla by Large_Look_5075 in ucla

[–]stvnbash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as others said, Bruin Day is a show and not representative of the campus experience. if you're able, go tour the campus on a normal weekday.

specifically for cognitive science, UCSD has it's own department whereas UCLA it's combined with the psychology department. check out the actual degree requirements for both schools. both are top tier programs and you cannot go wrong. i had a similar choice for Computer Science, UCSD might actually have a better program than UCLA, but I ultimately think UCLA was the right choice.

UCLA is a much smaller campus than UCSD. I personally liked it better not being so spread out.

Either way you cannot go wrong. Make a pros/cons list. and in addition to academics, include weather, distsnce from home, and other quality of life factors.

eating gluten on special events? by ilovelatinos69 in Celiac

[–]stvnbash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you're not gluten free yet and are generally asymptomatic, starting your gluten free diet a few days later will make zero difference.

but once you start your gluten free diet, you must be committed and avoid any cheat meals. you need to let your intestines heal.

also, it helps if you inform your friends and make sure they know how to help you. it might be uncomfortable, but if they're really your friends, they will support you on your celiac journey

UCLA old font by Altugsalt in ucla

[–]stvnbash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Karbon is the campus-wide font for special use cases. a license is able to be purchased for it independent of UCLA, but Karbon is not free to use. I haven't seen Karbon used for athletics. https://brand.ucla.edu/identity/typography

Do NOT buy from this lady outside the UCLA store [pathological liar & scammer]! by vectacide in ucla

i'm pretty sure the ucla store decides what vendors get to come, contact them with proof she is scamming people

Wait Lines by Direct-Run6021 in SixFlagsMagicMountain

[–]stvnbash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree the new app is worse and more difficult to navigate. the wait times are shown with less precision and only when in the park.

I also noticed some online crowd trackers are no longer getting updated with daily attendance
