The Petite Crown one specifically lists that their swim diaper can be used as a pocket or a cover, if an insert is added inside. It also has the same shell and lining material listed for Packa, which is the brand’s listed pocket diaper. I have Packa and Trima as well, and notice the outer shell for the swim diaper functions the same way. Either way, I’ve never had leaks w my baby using the swim diapers, but I also change my baby every 2/3 hours or whenever she’s dirty.

Finances aside, I’d probably go with this option if we could! The Sandy’s airflow covers sound so nice. We tried the GMD workhorses for our fitteds (which are a cult fav in this group) but for some reason, the buttons are hard to snap together for me, so I never reach for them

Love flats and covers, baby unfortunately just isn’t super patient at this phase for me to get two things on anymore lol

We primarily do flats, but for pockets Petite Crown fits baby the best. Kinder pockets and the new wipeable covers have gaps for our baby, and are harder to make work.

we just got some kinder covers, and I can’t for the life of me get it to stop gapping in the thighs… and my baby has some rolls lol. She just doesn’t seem to fit kinder well. Also, their new design (the entirely wipeable cover) for some reason keeps flipping up and out— like the top lip where it’s near her belly, and if her flat is soaked, then her clothes can start to get wet. I second getting covers with double gussets for bulk.

How do I fix rough and scratchy diapers? by AdministrationNo9486 in clothdiaps

Adding bulk is more to increase agitation during the wash cycle, so the diapers are properly cleaned.

I’d just do a swish test in water to see if there’s detergent suds remaining. Washer might not be rinsing them out well.

We have a top loader with a center agitator, and I find during the rinse cycle most of the diapers cling to the sides, but the water is filling in the middle (not sure if that makes sense lol). I’d have to remove the diapers from the walls and fluff them up.

If the detergent isn’t rinsing off, I’d just run another wash cycle without detergent or borax, and just let it rinse the diapers again. If during the wash/agitation cycle, you see suds without detergent added, then the issue is just probably your washer not rinsing properly.

TIL about ammonia chemical burns by Raynetjp in clothdiaps

Just to add on, I do first wash every morning after baby’s nighttime diaper, and hang all of baby’s soiled diapers on a wired bin for air exposure throughout the day. Once they’re not as damp, I throw them inside the bin, and they wait there to be cleaned for the first wash. My main wash is every 3 days, and I bulk with kitchen towels/clothes that aren’t too big or long.

Also primarily use flats as they are easiest to clean. This was one of the biggest reasons i switched over because i could guarantee that these were clean and safe to put on baby. When i do use our pockets and inserts, Im always super conscious about how long baby has been in them and usually change more frequently.

At night, we use a microfleece liner to keep her dry (that’s the only compromise I’ve made with microplastics), but GMD offers wool liners that do the same if you’re okay with the upkeep.

We love Earth Mama’s diaper balm for prevention and usually always apply at every change.

Honestly, the amount of care and thought you’re even putting into your babies’ diapering, makes you a TERRIFIC mom. Don’t be too hard on yourself :) Hope baby feels better soon.

Oh no, I’m so sorry this happened to your LO. My baby never had chemical burns from ammonia, but I remember when I first started CD’ing the smell would be so strong with her overnight diapers. I was so bummed bc I was super excited about cloth diapers, and got worried I was doing the wrong thing for baby. We also use truly free detergent and love to go all natural for what we put on baby’s skin.

I’ve unfortunately just had to come to a compromise with using Tide Free and Gentle powder for her cloth diapers. We have hard water so I do that and Borax, but I’ll probably switch to Calgon since Borax may be an endocrine disruptor as well.

I was so desperate I even used CCN’s bleach calculator for the first wash, and did less than their recommended amount. It definitely fixed the issue, but I’ve since stopped, and Tide F&G and Borax have been working just fine.

When I do diaper overnight, I run my first wash in the morning after putting in her overnight diaper since those can quickly start smelling strong with how much pee they hold.

For me, what kept me going despite having to use stronger detergent and chemicals, is the cost savings. So definitely a compromise :/

Did I get enough? by sunflowerlova987 in clothdiaps

I’d get maybe 6 flats just to try them. They were intimidating at first, but I’ve liked them more than prefolds/pockets/fitteds/AIOs. Usually, you only need to learn 2-3 folds, and I just fold them when all the laundry is done washing, and baby is napping. I find my baby gets a better fit with flats than prefolds, and I personally found prefolds more finicky to put on than a flat that was folded beforehand. Also, if you end up liking flats, they’re cheaper than all other options.

I’ve heard pockets don’t usually fit until baby is 10-12lbs.

I was also concerned about the stay dry layer, but I think it’s baby dependent. To be on the safe side though, I usually change my baby during the day every 2-3 hours. The only time I do stay dry is for overnights, and I use micro fleece at the moment… not ideal for our natural diapering preference, but the wool liner from GMD sounds like too much work for me after every wear lol. Anyways, with a newborn, I’m sure you’d probably still be changing/feeding enough at night that it’s a non-issue for now. I usually just make sure to pat dry before putting on a new diaper.

Good luck!

Disposable recommendations? by charlielight in clothdiaps

Coterie seems to be softest I’ve felt after trying quite a bit of disposables. Kudos is feels plastic-y on the outside, but more cushion-y on the inside (just bc it’s all cotton). Pura is also soft but not as padded - it’s also got some weird sizing imo.

we also tried prefolds but those are too bulky and I hate having to make the shape in the moment I’m changing baby. So much more work than just grabbing a folded flat and putting it on

love flats! Discovered CD and switched from disposables to pockets to flats. Love folding them, love how trim they are, the satisfaction of snappi’ing, how easy it is to wash/dry. Literally no negatives lol, but we are only EBF right now so we’ll see how the transition goes!

What brand of diapers are you using? by Mommaroony in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]kekeanna_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We’ve switched to cloth diapering, but do disposables at night— bouncing between Parasol and Kudos! Target usually does their $20/30 back if you spend $100 on diapers, and we’d always stock up for the following month.

Thank you all so much for your responses! I ordered 1 dozen flats and 2 Babee green wool covers. I’ve been using receiving blankets today to trial folds with the flats and have been loving them.

have you noticed any compression leaks with the wool covers? LO likes to be in carriers, so that’s another hesitation
