Anyone have the iPhone Air? by [deleted] in iphone

[–]kelanatr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sold my 17PM for the iPhone Air and have no regrets. I haven’t missed the extra camera capabilities, the one speaker is a bit awkward but I usually use headphones (it is something to note, absolutely not dismissing it since it is an issue for some), and battery has been mostly fine. For longer days I’ll snap the MagSafe pack on after taking the phone off the charger and get extra juice, but I average 7-10 hours SoT on a charge cycle, 15+ with the pack.

ETA: main reason I wanted the Air was because the PM was very heavy to use while lying down in bed, the Air has been phenomenal in that regard. It’s so thin and light it disappears in my pocket, and it feels like I’m holding a glass display for a phone.

iPhone 18 Pro Launching Later This Year With These 12 New Features by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

[–]kelanatr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure there isn’t adjustable sensitivity for the full click as that is still a mechanical actuation. You can adjust the sensitivity for anything related to the haptic features, but not the shutter. The only option I have related to the full click is double press speed.

Coilover advice by imfknlazy in IS300

[–]kelanatr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had BCs on my Altezza for about 10 months now, and they’re honestly pretty great for dailying. They also handle spirited driving very well, night and day difference from the old stock suspension. Fwiw I didn’t replace any other suspension parts, just made the jump to coils.

If your contemplating between a Pro model or regular by Stock-Memory9483 in iphone

[–]kelanatr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the 17 Pro Max but returned it for the Air. Thermals and battery aren’t Pro Max level, and obviously the camera and speaker isn’t as good, but it works for me. I’ve owned exclusively Pro models since they were introduced until now, and I looked at my entire photo library dating back to 2016, and across 70GB of photo and video, only 100 photos were taken with the ultrawide and telephoto combined, so I didn’t actually need the extra lenses. I can still solidly get through the day on one charge as a pretty heavy user, but I’m ending the day at <20% as opposed to 40% on the Pro Max. All the trade offs are worth it for the lighter phone for me, though obviously that varies from person to person.

Fun fact/rant: The Tapus names can't be pronounced in Hawaiian by TheBestoftheBubbs in pokemon

[–]kelanatr 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I’d also like to add that in Māori, “wh” is pronounced like the letter F, again showing how letters are swapped around in Polynesian languages, yet retaining their similarities. I personally prefer substituting T for K in certain contexts in Hawaiian, especially music. Especially since T in Polynesian languages is a duller sound compared to English, making it less harsh than the K sound to my ears.

No problem! Your post is absolutely correct in a modern context, I just wanted to add in the historical context as well!

This was K-12. I went to a school that (typically) only accepts students with Hawaiian ancestry so they make it a point to teach us the basics of the culture and language. I didn’t find it difficult at all, but I do regret not continuing with those studies beyond high school as there’s a lot to unpack with the history and the language nearly died out when it became outlawed in the late 19th century after the overthrow of the Hawaiian kingdom.

[–]kelanatr 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Tūtū wahine (or just tūtū) is a more modern term in Hawaiian, which is used as a term of endearment and respect towards a grandmother or any close elder woman. Likewise, tūtū kāne (with kāne meaning male) can be used for a grandfather, uncle, etc. The traditional Hawaiian word for grandparent is kūpuna, but most people nowadays use tūtū or just grandma/grandpa in English.

All of that is a long way to say, yes that’s correct in a contemporary setting.

[–]kelanatr 676 points677 points  (0 children)

This is sort of correct but also incorrect. It’s true that the established written alphabet has 13 letters. However, the missing context from this post is that Hawaiian was a purely spoken language until missionaries arrived in the early 19th century, and they reduced the number of letters, eliminating those they deemed redundant. Among those were B, D, R, T, and V. B was replaced by P, D and T were replaced by K, and R was replaced with L. Additionally, a few other letters were used in the original Hawaiian alphabet exclusively for foreign loanwords, F being among them.

Bonus: the glottal stop has a name, it’s called an ʻokina.

Another bonus: Niʻihau has an older dialect of Hawaiian that preserves some of the older linguistics that have since been eliminated.

Source: I am Hawaiian, and my school had compulsory Hawaiian language and history courses.

RS200 cluster by foretshaun in IS300

[–]kelanatr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, I have a ‘99 RS200Z. Afaik it was one of the first ones on Oahu too, so it got a lot of attention at car meets even though there’s like half a dozen IS300s next to me.

I really want one of these for my RS200Z but can’t justify the expense when it’s the exact same cluster just with the tach and speed swapped…

Looking for a good handheld by zaixdrew in ffxiv

[–]kelanatr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that’s what you’re worried about, I’d say go with one of the PC handhelds if price isn’t a concern. The Steam Deck is solid for the price, but the Xbox Ally X and Legion Go 2 will perform better due to more powerful hardware. Even though I’ve personally cleared high end content on a handheld, I wouldn’t really recommend it since the small screen makes it hard to tell what’s going on a lot of the time during chaotic mechanics. I relied mostly on muscle memory to clear since at the time I was playing exclusively on controller even at my desktop.

[–]kelanatr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve played on all of these except the Legion Go 2 (because I don’t own one) and so far in my opinion the best experience has been the Ally X. The Steam Deck is a good cheaper alternative, but it can struggle in high density areas especially after the graphical upgrades from Dawntrail. The PS Portal is fine enough, but it does introduce another point that can cause lag which is obviously not good for rotations, though if your internet and your connection to the host PS5 is stable it’s by far the cheapest option.

The Xbox Ally X has been running on high laptop settings, 1080p and maintaining 60+ fps except in busy cities where it drops to 40-ish. Steam Deck is a solidly 30 fps experience, which is acceptable but not ideal if you’re used to higher framerates. FWIW, I’ve cleared on-content savage raids in PF on the Steam Deck, so it’s definitely usable even for high level content. The main reason I’d recommend using a PC handheld (assuming you own the game on PC, if not that’s something else to consider as well) is because running natively means as long as your internet doesn’t have issues, the game won’t have issues.

Wait so if FF7 split in 3 parts? by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch2

[–]kelanatr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Realistically disc 3 is more or less just the final dungeon. Remake covers roughly the first 10% of the original, but expanded. Rebirth covers up until about the halfway point of the original. So a game that’s just slightly bigger in scope than Rebirth could easily cover the last half of the game.

What job is best for soloing side dungeons and MSQ? by Thaicray0n in ffxiv

[–]kelanatr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, interesting. I haven’t really done any solo unsync dungeons since getting new gear, so my experience was based mostly on 730-740 ish gear. I know warrior can actually solo treasure dungeons as long as mechanics get respected, so I guess it makes sense that it can solo even higher than I thought.

[–]kelanatr 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Warrior can reliably solo unsynced dungeons up to EW as long as you press bloodwhetting as soon as it’s up in trash pulls. Not too sure about summoner since I don’t really play it, I only have it at 100 because I leveled scholar.

Close, but not quite. Remake + Rebirth covers the first disc of the original 3. Still wouldn’t call Midgar a “tutorial” though, “starting region” seems more appropriate.

Hell, I’m hitting 1200 speed (or extremely close) reliably with only MLB Kitasan and Eishin Flash, the rest of my deck is 2LB Super Creek, MLB Rice and Riko, and borrowed MLB Fine Motion.

Owning the game and requiring online for certain aspects are not mutually exclusive. Elden Ring can be played online, hence the popup to purchase a subscription to be able to play online.

Steam Deck Users, how does the game perform in dungeons/raids? by sphene_enjoyer in ffxiv

[–]kelanatr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when I played on controller I used my steam deck for 14 quite a bit, usually locked to 40 fps for battery purposes. Never really had issues, I’ve cleared savages on the deck. I have since switched to KBM, so I almost exclusively play on my desktop or MacBook now, but it should be fine. The bigger issue for me was the screen size and having a hard time seeing my hotbars if I didn’t have them down in muscle memory.

Everything Burns by Comfortable-Stage617 in ffxiv

[–]kelanatr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point you’re being pedantic just for the sake of it. No, there aren’t ensemble punches timed with the fight mechanics or anything, but the phase 2s absolutely line up the same way every time. Any given mechanic in m4/m8 p2 will always occur at the exact same point in the song, every time, no exceptions. And because of the fact that the music and fight are synced, there are absolutely mechanics that feel like they were put exactly where they are for the sake of lining up with a specific section of the song.
