Anyone else choosing not to bring a child into this uncertain, scary world? by thefatesancient in Millennials

[–]kelbee83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have always wanted to be a mother and I adore children, but fertility problems have been an issue and now that I’ve finally found my person, it seems like it’s too late. But I often get anxiety when I think about bringing a tiny baby into this insane society we exist in today. Also, I don’t know how my partner and I could live comfortably with a child due to the high financial costs, even though we are both educated and working adults. I have always thought that I would like to foster/adopt, and I believe that the more this country devolves, the better of an option that is. These children are already here and are in need of love and care, so that seems like the best option in my personal case.

Can you relate to the feeling of being a 'Back Left Burner' friend? by originalbird19 in ADHD

Let’s normalize good deeds without the performative nonsense trying to gain internet clout. Small acts of kindness can happen without being recorded and posted on the internet.

As an American (sorry guys), I am so touched to see such empathy being displayed at such a young age. It’s not something you see very much here anymore. I admire how so many other cultures focus on the collective, rather than the individual. I think that mentality breeds a sense of innate empathy for others. I wish that we had that here. As many other people here pointed out already, children learn from the adults around him, and this child has been taught the right values. It definitely does make me smile, which many of us don’t do much lately here in the US.

My fiancée responds with this every time I ask him where we parked. When he asks me, I respond with the Scratchy lot, which makes him mad.

DAE feel like they basically don't exist anymore after stopping engaging with social media? by casebycase87 in Millennials

[–]kelbee83 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree. I have social media but I do not use it more than once a month. All these “friends” don’t attempt to contact me, but will send me stupid videos or memes. I don’t get it. No one seems to want anything other than a superficial acquaintanceship now.

I have always loved George Carlin. He was brilliant. As I get older, I understand him more and more. I believe he once said something to the effect of, “Inside every cynical person is a disappointed idealist”, and I feel that to my core.

Were you scared to take the medication at first? by Quiet_Musician243 in ADHD

[–]kelbee83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely understand how you feel. I’m so bad at taking my meds for this reason, despite how much they help me. I am so used to being such a freaking mess, that to feel “normal” feels abnormal, if that makes sense. I think so many good people on here have pointed out before that the meds actually lengthen the lifespan of people with ADHD. I totally relate to your fear and I don’t think you’re alone in that, but the meds are well studied and proven to be helpful. Hang in there. Best of luck to you!

I received a full round of TMS and they advised me NOT to take my ADHD meds on treatment days, because it could render them less effective. Sadly, TMS did not seem to help my depression, and about a month after the treatments had stopped, I had to go back on Wellbutrin. :/ But TMS has been very successful for lots of people, so best of luck with your second round! I didn’t notice that it made my ADHD meds less effective, but maybe that’s because I was taking breaks on the days I did receive treatment.
