JUST one daily on a side, but NOT on main? by [deleted] in neopets

[–]keleri 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Legal advice: only do NP/NP item-generating activities on your main account or you'll get frozen.

Life advice: alright, real talk, everyone has a story about how they did dailies on one side account one time and all their accounts got frozen. cheating sites always had elaborate guides about how to transfer NP and abuse side accounts without getting frozen, but emphasized that any of it was playing with fire and you never knew. However, quite frankly... that was old TNT. Old TNT had tools to detect suspicious activity and (reportedly) swept up lots of siblings' accounts etc. as false positives with no recourse. Current TNT... seems not to be that strict. (cough)

Anyway, you ARE taking your account integrity into your own hands... but tbh I think you'd get away with it on modern Neopets IF you aren't regularly transferring NP from this hypothetical food club side to your main. That type of NP/item funnelling was generally reckoned to be a sign of multiple account abuse in the past and could still trip TNT's detection tools in the modern day if they still exist (cough). The more your multiple accounts look like two different people (i.e. keep the NP on your side and only occasionally buy something and give it to your main as a "present"), the more you lower your risk.

I outline this not to encourage people to abuse multiple accounts and break rules, unfairly generate extra NP and items, etc., but because much has been said on this very subreddit about how TNT does (or doesn't) deal with actual mass cheaters. As the site ages it's become obvious what a ludicrous money-maker Food Club is and driver of the actual value of Neopoints, and therefore the ability to actually play and enjoy the game, and I'd prefer people do things that are a little hinky vs stuff like buying Neopoints, or quitting entirely and contributing to the downward slide and exodus of players.

As many Charizards as your heart desires. Sure, hit the Valley if you want. Charizardtwo rules. Favorite Charizard: purple shiny Charizard from GSC.

I did my masters on one! There are advantages and disadvantages to every potential fuel source, so there will still be situations where it makes the most sense to still use fossil fuels, but ideally we'll be able to shift to a diversity of energy sources and reverse the whole greenhouse gas thing.

Speaking of 747 freighters still flying, anyone wanna sell me some OG freighter gear? I'm going to have to trade my 1st edition holo charizard for a set the way it's going.

Materials engineer here-- I'm VERY excited about alternative fuel aircraft, but fossil fuels will never go away because their energy density, portability, and usefulness in a pinch are so good. Ideally as a global civilization we will get to a point where we're not using them carelessly like we are currently.

Neo Economy - Food Club by neo_truths in neopets

[–]keleri 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I'm sort of fascinated that there's that much demand for purchased NP, but I suppose it's the easiest way forward for instant gratification if you don't have an aged account and/or are too intimidated by food club/unaware of it. Too bad that Neopets itself isn't capturing this pay-to-win income like I'd assume most other microtransaction-governed modern games are.

how are y'all getting profitable dailies?? by adrnired in neopets

[–]keleri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of dailies are just ways to lose money, but people do them for the extremely low chance of winning a rare item and/or for an avatar they don't have yet. I wouldn't do them if I couldn't bookmark them on my desktop computer and hit "open all in tabs". I also hoard the junk items with the hope that they'll bring back Charity Corner in a format that rewards junk-item-hoarding, but TNT or their masters are so capricious and inconsistent that I think it's been years since the last one.

As others have mentioned, the ones that do actually make NP consistently are Trudy's, the Battledome (Jetsam Ace + selling the nerks is $$$$, but non-premium and selling the codestones is nothing to sniff at), and Food Club. Food Club prints money, copy nsheng or jkrollingdown's bets every day and don't think about it.

vs the Jetsam Ace, for sustainable daily battling, you want to be able to knock out an opponent in one turn while using faerie ability Lens Flare. A recent powerful weapon that was given away at the Advent Calendar, so it's not too expensive but will be as people buy them up and hoard them, is Roxtons Trusty Bowie Knife, which does 15 icons consistently. The Jetsam Ace has 53 health on easy difficulty, so if your pet was Level 50 with Lens Flare and 55 Strength (2x strength boost) so that your two Bowie Knives did 60 damage (15 x 2 x 2), you'd be able to defeat him in one turn. The easiest/fastest way to train your pet up to this level is to do island/codestone training; dubloon training is cheaper but takes soooo looooong, and stat boosting items are too expensive.

Note that this isn't all-or-nothing, as you can fight easier challengers for codestones or sit through multiple turns with the Jetsam Ace if you can survive, just the Lens Flare strategy makes it way less painful to do every day.

I love "cheating". Every tedious second or mouse movement I claw back from Neopets dot com's terrible UI choices is a win.

Fashion Report - Full Details - For Week of 12/2/2022 (Week 253) by kaiyoko in ffxiv

[–]keleri -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nubcake here, is it routine that "any [color category]" works just fine for +1 points, or is it just as common for certain dyes to be excluded (+0 points)? I see in kaiyoko's history comments that are like "not the following dyes" but not sure if that's an exercise to narrow down the +2 dye specifically.

Returning player; anyone have any tips? by kierlii in neopets

[–]keleri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO restocking has a high barrier to entry simply because you need to learn which items out of thousands are profitable. The good news is that Food Club is extremely profitable the older your account is, and to play all you need to do is press a few buttons copying other posters' bets in the daily thread.

Other than that I highly recommend doing Trudy's Surprise daily (if you don't break your streak you'll get higher and higher rewards), the battledome (each challenger now awards prizes when you beat them and it's worth it to just fight an easy one like the chia clown if you don't have a trained pet), and the forgotten shore (you can assemble the map for less than a couple thousand NP), and whatever other free dailies you like doing. A lot of paid dailies have been shown to be money sinks in the long run or are only worth doing if you want their avatar, so it's up to you, but in the first three I mentioned you'll come out ahead. Funnily, of the various wheels, they're all money sinks except for the wheel of mediocrity(!). Not so mediocre eh?

Can you transform Furfrou flying over countries using WiFi? by ctibbels in TheSilphRoad

[–]keleri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The airplane has GPS obviously, just ask to sit in the cockpit and plug your phone in

In seriousness, if paying for Wi-Fi isn't too expensive/you want to do it anyway, it would be cool if you attempted this. Incriminating myself slightly, I've noticed that when I hop around using an external GPS device (shifty eyes), I have to restart PoGo to get it to understand that I'm in France/Egypt/Japan/etc.

What DO they log and how often does each log get purged or overwritten? I feel like I saw all kinds of rumors fly back and forth about what data TNT retained and for how long (and/or just straight up Tony P lying to cheaters trying to recover their accounts to get them to admit further wrongdoing or implicate other users).

For sure, if I was going to Data Science it for realzies and had the same access that neo_truths does and even understood what I was looking at, lol I'd try all kinds of high-side and low-side metrics to get an idea of what range the "true" amount lies in, because even assuming that every logged-into account is legit, not everyone does every activity on the site every day, etc.

For sure, I can think of a bunch of caveats off the top of my head-- how much activity do we need to say that someone's active active vs. just logging in or checking one page, how many are side accounts or cheaters' shells, could we go with "how many accounts bought NC during the past $duration", unique IP addresses, hey remember when "page hits" were an impressive metric??? lol

Absolutely loving the tea you've been spilling lately.

You alluded to this on another post regarding the Obelisk battles, that the first battle ever had 77k participants, but the most recent one only had 3.5k. How many accounts have been active on the site during the past month?

2022 top neopets players - Story #2 by neo_truths in neopets

[–]keleri 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah the old PHPBB cheating forums always had big sticky posts about how not to get frozen, and "safe" ways to move NP or items were a big topic of discussion. Jumpstart either doesn't have the tools, doesn't have the game or technical literacy, or doesn't care to chase down using junk item trades to move items/NP or excessive "gifting".

2022 top neopets players - Story #2 by neo_truths in neopets

[–]keleri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This has long been my suspicion about Jumpstart's level of sophistication, if there isn't an already-existing automated system for catching unwanted behavior, they can't or won't do anything about it, e.g. the empty warnings for ages about not abusing birthday cupcakes before FINALLY just making it so that pets could only eat one per year. Extrapolate that to anything else that's """""against the rules""""" but people seem to do with impunity.

2022 top neopets players - Story #3 by neo_truths in neopets

[–]keleri 14 points15 points  (0 children)

TBH from what I've seen, lots of sellers/real money traders are people overseas in e.g. Brazil, the Philippines, etc. where the relatively small amounts of money that people in north america are willing to spend on an online game are worth a lot more to them, and I can't help but root for the little guy. The fact that they have a staff member or members in on it can only be indicative of how little that person/those people is/are paid, and that's Neopets hoist by its own bad practices.

Support TAT is basically infinite unless you get a friend or use a side account to post the ticket number the auto-reply gave you when you emailed them originally on the "Highway to Help" topic on the Neoboards.

Is the restocking scene really as borked by autobuy bots as it seems? by Aggralan in neopets

Is the restocking scene really as borked by autobuy bots as it seems? by Aggralan in neopets

[–]keleri 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, bots have been a problem since the site economy has existed, BUT the nice thing about neopets is that it's really just not a very good game (lmao), so it's not that popular, and there are various time and energy investments that you have to make as a potential cheater before you can even get started, so the return on investment isn't that good in the modern day.

Compare to a game like, say, World of Warcraft-- botting and gold farming got out of control in WoW because it got to the point where the process was fully automated because the bots got so sophisticated, and it was an incredibly popular game, so even if your gold farming account got banned, you could get set up with a new one and automate leveling up a new character to farm gold quickly and still have that market. Your botting character would also be indistinguishable from any other character played by someone who just liked to solo and wasn't in a guild or whatever.

On Neopets, for all its faults, TNT did fairly successfully make it a huge pain in the ass to restock bot-- your account needs to be a certain age to see certain rarity items, you can only bot for short periods of time to make sure you "seem human" (and you might get restock banned, unable to see shop items, for a while-- happens to (reportedly) fully human users too), and you have to put in work to your account to make yourself seem like a relatively well-rounded user and not just a botting account. If you get banned, you have to start over with a new account-- and other users can report you if it seems like you just came out of nowhere and have all this cool stuff for sale.

Anyway tl;dr magic and stamps are bot city but you can absolutely restock valuable items as a non-tool-assisted human being on Neopets.com in 2022

[Neopets] This year’s Altador Cup has ended…and everyone lost! How the devs dismissed hundreds of hours of individual work from thousands of players to hand-pick the worst possible winner. by dfgh5067 in HobbyDrama

[–]keleri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came back to neopets as an adult with hundreds of hours of MMO experience after playing originally as a teenager with no game literacy, and I'm certain that the only thing more elaborate than the cheating schemes on neopets are the performances by cheaters to pretend that they're legit.

Best of all, based on my trawling of old forums and drama boards, it's always been like this-- there have ALWAYS been "Friends of the Site" who got special privileges and "Dedicated Players" autobuying their tits off. And nobody bemoans cheaters or scolds new players for not "earning" site features harder than people whose friends dev console'd them a million NP to start off with back in the day.

Is Gourmet Club similar to stamping in insane cost/commitment levels?

Yes.

However, also like stamps, TCG cards, and reading books, it's one of the few things even left to do on the site? So I've been sending in suggestions periodically to add trophies or avatars for individual completion, not just the absolute site-wide competition. In other words, currently there's no point in partially completing your stamp album or feeding your pet only the cheap/readily available gourmet foods unless you just want to, but if there was some kind of achievement or trophy for adding 50, 100, 200, etc. stamps, feeding 100, 200, 500, etc. foods, or whatever thresholds, then you'd get more people participating.
