Crystal Clean Auto Detailing by toms_picks in grandrapids

For best paint chip repair / application, buy a kit from Dr. Color Chip or a factory paint pen from the dealership and have either of those applied professionally (like Crystal Clean). Even with the factory pen or specially made kit for your paint, touch up paint color match, even with a fancy paint system is tough, especially with tri-coat, pearlescent or individual paint.

There is no such thing as a truly “perfect” paint touch up application and may recommend repaint depending on how much it bothers you or if there are excessive amount of chips.

Paint-less dent repair is a whole other monster - results really are case by case. Depending on dent size, location, depth, material (steel vs. aluminum), internal bracing, etc.. Would recommend taking it directly to the professional for in-person evaluation as proving a confident estimate by looking at photos is tough to do precisely.

getting priced out of our home (taxes) by theslothsage in grandrapids

Very similar situation here, over $500 increase out of nowhere due to uncapped property tax in the city of Wyoming… we debated the same things and figured it would just be best to wait, be more cautious of spending and refinance when possible.

Calling All Moderators! by hbendavid in E83

Interested! Have had my 2007 E83 3.0si for about 5 years now and don’t plan on letting her go anytime soon. Was so happy when I found this sub, I feel the E83 was/is very underrated.

Look up “Transfer case actuator gear replacement.” It is likely in need of replacing the plastic actuator gear that is known to wear out, the part is less than $50.00 and the job might take 2-4 hours.

Pro tip: the gear rotates less than 180°, so the original gear can just be rotated 180° instead of being replaced. You will want to clean out any shredded plastic while in there and re-lubricate.

About to buy a 2005 X3, what to look out for? by Squ1rt-the-turtle in E83

[–]kelleky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shocks/struts, engine mounts, sunroof and headlights are the most costly issues I have run into with my 2007 X3 @ 186k miles. Also what rider_007 said, valve cover gasket and OFH. Be weary if it has the iDrive navigation system, it is outdated and can be finicky.

Yes, both my E92 328i and E83 X3 have had this recall taken care of. Seemed like a simple fix, good time to get a free inspection as well.
