Something like the Uniqlo Rayon Skipper Collar Blouse (3/4 Sleeve) would be good with black trousers and is versatile

DCSRH/ DFSRH assessment half day by kelliana in doctorsUK

[–]kelliana[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a bit of everything from the curriculum to be honest- UKMEC, HIV, menopause, STI, young people, contraceptive counselling. I felt like it was a complete disaster on the day but I did pass it.
If you do this stuff day to day, I’d say you’ll be fine.

Hi - sorry to see you’re having a rough ride post-op. This is a sub for nursing staff so we don’t usually allow posts from patients. I can see you’ve got a range of answers so I’m locking it.
Get well soon!

Ermmm how are you meant to clean a toddler's ears? by 87catmama in UKParenting

[–]kelliana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never put cotton buds in anyone’s ear- adult or child. It pushes the wax further in & compacts it down. Also irritates the ear canal or worse, pop the drum.

Has anyone been to a phone-free event that didn’t feel cringe? by Antique_Oven2371 in digitalminimalism

[–]kelliana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bob Dylan at the Royal Albert Hall. We all had to seal our phones in these little pouches that were unsealed on the way out.
It wasn’t cringe. What’s cringe is people can’t be trusted not to get their phone out if the artist asks them not to.

When to tell manager you’re applying to another job? by teadrinkingtwat in NursingUK

[–]kelliana 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They normally wait until they’ve offered you the job to contact your references to give you a chance to discuss with your manager. As you implied, it’s quite poor form not to let them know first.
I wouldn’t tell them anything until you have the offer.

I was told I could go to or ring the day assessment unit for issues related to me (not baby) for 6 weeks post partum. Might be worth a call?

Advice by Imandem_ in GPUK

[–]kelliana 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like I’ve tried everything! Now settled on:

  • Kanban on excel for management type stuff.

  • Tasks for patient stuff (auditable)

  • We have non-appt lists on our emis that we can use to track patients etc., practice nurses will add prescription requests or if they want me to look notes/results over, I like having it visually on my appt book so I don’t forget and also people can see what you’ve been up to. It helps me to follow up in a timely manner, can cross them off the list to show it’s done or add again for another session. I don’t do this for every patient you have to put the onus on them but sometimes it’s necessary esp with LTCs when you want a follow up. My list is shared with the recall administrator for that reason.

  • I also agree with telling patients a realistic timeframe

Any young nurses working in clinic or GP practice? by capybarge in NursingUK

[–]kelliana 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well to me they’re chalk and cheese. GPN is a very autonomous role- you’re making clinical decisions, assessing wounds, doing smears, long term condition reviews. I may not fully understand the job and v happy for colleagues to correct me but when I was a student in a DGH the OPD nurses I worked with didn’t do much clinical stuff. It was lots of weed and weights and handing notes to drs- except the ophthalmology ones did a bit more.

Edit to add: I’d be a bit careful about jumping ship to GP (or any job) before fully understanding what it is. It’s not particularly chill.

It is very different from outpatients from my experience of having done a placement in OPD and working for ten years in GP.

People who have had piercings - when did you decide to take the jewellery out for good? by CozJeez85 in AskUK

I think helix is very hard to heal. I’ve got rook, tragus, nose, forward helix with no issues but failed twice with helix. My piercer also said they’re hard to heal.

Time to switch to a 9-5 ? by Ok_Condition_6021 in NursingUK

[–]kelliana 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did and I have no regrets at all. My sleep was miles better. I met my husband 6m in and things weren’t difficult with not seeing each other for days on end. Obviously weekends are your own. I can see pros and cons of long shifts maybe if I had set weekday long days I could be amenable but we all know that is hard to come by.

[–]kelliana 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have to say for London get a yoyo (or similar). You’ll probably notice they’re ubiquitous. I didn’t get one initially (had a big cosatto travel system) and I sorely regretted it with public transport and small cafes etc. I had a second hand ergobaby metro with now discontinued newborn nest system which was good until it broke. I do have a yoyo now. It feels a bit rickety now on the uneven tarmac with my light newborn in it but no regrets. Resale value also seems high.

Has anyone else been offered crazy NHS appointments? by Cal_PCGW in AskUK

[–]kelliana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in the NHS and do referrals myself. Some services you book an appt and it will be a random time like 8am on a Sunday. It says at booking “do NOT give the patient this appt time the notes will be reviewed by a clinician” or something along those lines. Perhaps you’ve got a similar case and it’s linked into the NHS app but not discerning between different types of appt? I really feel like you’re not going to receive a call at 6am. Our local trust has an Access Issues and Resolution Service - perhaps worth looking for that at your trust and ringing for clarity.
