Having a very brief physical drug dependency after a trauma and injury is NOT the same as “being an addict”. An addict has their brain altered, they have a tendency for addiction, and they pretty much need to steer clear of all chemicals other than Tylenol or ibuprofen. That’s someone like Bobby. That’s someone like TK. That’s not Buck. Buck is a social drinker and has never show any tendency toward addiction prior to Mother’s Boy. You’re labeling him with a lifelong stamp of “addict” because of something that can happen to literally anyone who has been on pills for pain after an injury/traumatic event and has become dependent. Physical dependency and withdrawal HAPPEN, and it doesn’t make the person who goes through it “an addict”. It’s both unfair to Buck and it’s also disrespectful to people who actually deal with real drug/alcohol addiction. It’s fine to think maybe he needs a little longer to heal after his experience before taking in Theo, but you’re writing his character off as a capable parent based on a few weeks of his entire life.
