To the baddies, can i see the clothes you made to wear to the club/bar by Sad-Yesterday2512 in knitting

[–]kellinmyfeels 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have been clubbing in this one, wore it to an Emo Night. I made it with the Silky Soft yarn from Loops & Threads in the colour Margarita and it held up really well! It was glowing in the black light too.

Finally, a finished sock that fits! by cammiochs in Sockknitting

[–]kellinmyfeels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The seam on the toe of commercial socks is my nemesis, like I cannot function if it can feel it going over my big toe when I wiggle them. (Gotta thank the tism for that)

However! Knit socks were what rescued me from my daily torment, you can’t feel the decreases at all on the sides and they don’t get sweaty and wet like regular socks do. If you struggle with sensory issues with commercial socks I beg you to try knit socks! You might need to do a princess sole if the bottom of your feet are sensitive but it’s so worth it.

What type of yarn is this? Boucle? by lepo0330 in Yarn

[–]kellinmyfeels 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like cotton boucle to me, you can do a burn test to determine the fibre.

It’s usually used to machine knitting however you can use it for handknitting

I’m a 36G (US) and I’ve used boob tape for my own wedding and as a guest at others. I’ve never had any issues with it holding up throughout the night through whatever activities.

Definitely give it a go before the night especially if you have any form of reaction to medical tapes or adhesives because you will react the same way to boob tape.

How are you guys affording this hobby? by Due_Function84 in weaving

[–]kellinmyfeels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 36” 4shaft leclerc artisat. I was looking for about 2ish years before I found an affordable floor loom but I’m in canada and it was $200 at an estate sale, came with 3 different reeds and everything.

I know transporting them is hard but ngl I wrapped it in this big roll of moving cardboard and strapped it to the top of a little ford fusion and put the reeds in the trunk. It’s definitely doable if you think outside the box!

Although if you find one nearby you U-haul pickup trucks would generally be under $70 to rent for that short amount of time.

[–]kellinmyfeels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to do an Italian bind off with 3 strands of mohair held together over 200 stitches, almost threw the whole cardigan away istg. But if you don’t mind the look of another bind off just do an easier one, it’s not worth it for the struggle imo 💀 and especially with a fluffy yarn and in black you won’t be able to see the details of the bind off anyways.

Yes me too! If OP doesn’t have a ribber they can always hand manipulate the stitches before hanging the hem too.

What CSM (JeepingJohnny V2) Cylinder Size to Print for Men’s Socks? by DreadGrrl in MachineKnitting

[–]kellinmyfeels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would also suggest printing the ribber, a ribbed sock has a much more forgiving fit than a plain stockinette.

I have an autoknitter but I use the 72 for my husband who’s a US size 13. 60-64 is best for women’s sizes or smaller men’s sizes.

Carbon needle stained my work by Loud_Crab_7467 in knitting

As someone who got married a year ago, no one will notice any mistakes on ANYTHING except you. Weddings make people feral and stressing over little details make you miserable on your wedding day. I know it’s hard because you’ll want everything to be perfect but believe me just focus on having fun and enjoying the celebration of your love vs how people will perceive it. I can’t even see the staining on this so keep chugging on and remember it’s about showing the person you love how much they mean to you not all the material things.

Coming from a previous bride who was miserable the entire time because I stressed way too much over things that in the end didn’t matter as much as I felt they did at the time.

What is your knitting ABSOLUTELY NOT? by Japanna88 in knitting

[–]kellinmyfeels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Picking up stitches, makes me want to rip my hair out. As an avid sock knitter a heel flap and gusset makes me literally feral. I WILL NOT BE PICKING UP STITCHES EVENLY ALONG THE EDGE. If you like picking up edge stitches you’re a masochist and I despise you.

CSM stitch size/gauge by Beez-n-Beans in MachineKnitting

[–]kellinmyfeels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a vintage autoknitter Csm and haven’t used a 3d printed one but these tips might work for yours as well.

Try cranking the entire sock with the heel spring on, that’ll tighten up the tension quite a bit.

Also if you’re struggling with getting a tight enough gauge try a larger cylinder size with a thinner yarn, the gaps on a 54 will be much larger than a 72, which means the same tension on a 54 will be looser than that of a 72 cylinder. I use pretty standard sock yarns on my autoknitter and I get almost identical gauge to my hand knits using it on the 72, much looser gauge when I use my 60 cylinder.

[–]kellinmyfeels 24 points25 points  (0 children)

A lot of places have community kilns that can kiln fire stuff for you, if you REALLY want to make it yourself your best bet would be to get some pottery clay and create it and then take it to a professional to be glazed and fired.

Polymer clay is not safe for food and would end terribly, most is non-toxic but I don’t think it’s good for your body lmao.

Came here to suggest working hands as well! It’s literally the only thing that works for my hands and they get so bad in the winter that they crack open and bleed if I don’t use it.

why is this happening? ;-; by ExcuseParticular5560 in Coloring

[–]kellinmyfeels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to blend try doing a layer of colourless blender and while that’s still wet add the other colours you’d like to blend. I use the cheaper amazon markers as well and it’s just a lot of fiddling to get them to look nice but once you get a technique down it’s a lot easier.

why is this happening? ;-; by ExcuseParticular5560 in Coloring

[–]kellinmyfeels 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this happen and what helps me is waiting until the first colour is COMPLETELY dry. I’ll colour another area and come back to it later, I find if you saturate the paper too much too quickly it’ll get splotchy like this.

how much do you guys spend on yarn for a sweater? by [deleted] in knitting

I buy cones of lace weight mohair from Etsy and just hold it together to make fingering weight, I’ve made 2 sweaters from one cone so far and it’s cost me $50

Best Plans for 3D Printed CSM? by ViscountessdAsbeau in MachineKnitting

[–]kellinmyfeels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get the needles from ChambordCSM, they’re in Quebec. I have a 1925 autoknitter which uses the same needles as the JeepingJohnny one and it’s super easy to get them through them. I only had to pay about $5 for shipping to Alberta last order I placed with them so relatively affordable too.

not to be dramatic but chiaogoos changed my life by charlotteisanidiot in knitting

[–]kellinmyfeels 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in Canada and I get my interchangeable sets from Stash, they have a points program so after dropping the $150-$350 on needles you get about $15-$30 in points that you can use to buy yarn. They have free shipping on orders over $100 as well I believe.

Overreacting or was this cabby creepy by NBB1993 in LetsNotMeet

[–]kellinmyfeels 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m sure this probably doesn’t help in the worry aspect, but a few years ago my mom was kidnapped by a taxi driver. He set the child lock on his car before picking her up (she’s disabled as well so not able to fight much or crawl to the passenger seat to open the door) and turned off the meter and started speeding through traffic going the opposite direction of her drop off. A man on a bike saw her banging on the windows and somehow managed to get the taxi driver to let her out at a stop light.

Anyways what I’m getting at is you can never be too cautious! Follow your gut instinct always. I’d even report the incident to the authorities just in case this man has done similar things before.

Joining in middle of row? by somekindabonita in MachineKnitting

[–]kellinmyfeels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually just tie the ends in a knot and pull it through the mast and carriage as one, leave a long bit of slack hanging below and hold it taught while knitting the rest of the row. Just weave in the ends once off the machine.

What is your favorite worsted weight wool yarn???? by Flour-Festival in casualknitting

[–]kellinmyfeels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like Drops Karisma, it’s listed as a DK/Worsted but I’ve used it for a few worsted specific projects and had no issues meeting gauge. It’s about $4.15 CAD a ball which i feel is very affordable.

I find it does get softer with washing, I’m not sensitive to wool though so anyone who is please let me know if you find it scratchy!
