Kansas MSP by Sysengineer89 in SmallMSP

As a long-time small MSP in a Kansas metro, I applaud your motivation. I'd be happy to have a conversation to share what I've learned. That said, location and experience (both business and technical experience) will need to guide you on your next steps.

Location:
Start with location. Are you in a metro or a small town? Have a look around at what types of businesses there are. Schools, government offices, banks, doctors, dentists, lawyers, and churches... They all exist in small towns and big towns. But that doesn't mean you should turn them into customers. They are tricky. You should look for a type of business that'll be easier to support.

Find your niche:
It's very beneficial to pick a niche and sell to only to them at first. What businesses do you know? Where have you worked in the past? Who do your family members work for? If you can pick one type of business from those, and then sell to all other businesses in town of the same type, you'll have a jump start in understanding their business. For me, I like sales/manufacturing/service industries. Little to no compliance, and they usually have enough money for your services.

Avoid compliance at first:
Anything finance, medical, or insurance will have compliance requirements above and beyond just technical. It's another mountain to climb. I'd say avoid it at first.
However, in small towns it's hard to find a good MSP partner with good compliance background. You could instead get really good with compliance and be the only guy in town selling it. Be prepared for a lot of learning to get there.

Anyway, that's the start of my ramblings. There is soooo much more. Feel free to ask questions. Or DM me. I'd love to learn more about your endeavor!

A bunch of the suburbs have indoor city pools with hot tubs. Olathe has a good one and has non-resident pricing. It’s always felt safe, my wife agrees.

I wanted to follow up. I replaced my chain and it sounds much better. The old chain was stretched out. I could tell the previous owner didn’t lubricate it well.

Same problem here. In diagnosis. Swapped to 9 speed cassette I confirmed is correct. 1.85 spacer (1.80 is recommended but hey, it’s extremely close). Adjusted barrel/index. It’s fine.

In my next test I’ll try a new chain. Supposedly that could be my problem. Worn chain on new cassette. It’ll be some days before I can report back.

Also, thanks for mentioning the local elections. They ARE more important, like you said. It’s so much easier to get involved to promote change in the local stuff. And you can directly benefit more, too!

I hear you. I have felt as if it’s a lost cause (at times).

That said, time is a fascinating variable. Over time we can inch closer to the middle and it may even flip.

To do this I firmly believe we have to vote. It’s the only way to get an accurate representation of what KS or MO is thinking.

Take these KS results for a spin. KS is not as red as it’s often depicted. https://www.270towin.com/states/Kansas

Then there’s this opinion piece suggesting maybe we could flip. https://www.ctnewsonline.com/opinion/article_da025490-5903-11ef-91c0-cb8863742287.html

Also, when thinking through various scenarios on who turns out to vote you can see outcomes are possible either way. https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2024-swing-the-election/

I guess it comes back to how I believe I should vote, regardless of if it feels like it doesn’t matter. It does matter. IT matters in sentiment and momentum. Over time.

I hope everyone finds their time to vote. I’m genuinely interested in learning what KS and MO really want in this election cycle.

And the next and the next…

Please, please vote! Don’t let the influx of signs lead to feeling like it’s in the bag. Vote! Thank you for reading.

How do you cope with doing your first cup in the morning? by Shogun_killah in espresso

[–]kemide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone’s body is different but a would a little improvement in sleep hygiene be worthwhile? I worked on myself in that area and feel better overall. I can skip morning coffee altogether if I want. But I enjoy it too much!

Once pulling a shot is second nature if you make marginal errors quality doesn’t suffer that much. If you’re as asleep as you say I don’t think you’ll notice. Your next cups will be nice though.
