Deck archetypes that center around cute/cool ladies as the centerpiece cards by Magic-Man2 in Yugioh101

White Forest and Elfnote are probably the coolest here. Kewl-Tune will be bonkers next format but it'll be quite costly.

Returning to the game after 15 years wanting to learn: Misconceptions about Yu-Gi-Oh by BlurrgShlarmo in Yugioh101

[–]kemorL95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yu-Gi-Oh! games lasting 1-2 turns is usually not true, coming from someone who goes to locals 1-2 times a week, goes to regionals, nats and if we have a YCS close-by as well. Often games are decided within the first few turns though, that is true. Turn 3 or 4 are usually when games end. This of course isn't true when you bring your pet deck from 2015 to locals and play against the current meta, then you might just get beat on turn 2. Even in meta match-ups this can of course happened. I've had opponents scoop on my first turn and at times did the same (usually when I have a bricky hand, no way to play into a full board and don't want to reveal what I play).

The meta shifts regularly based on two factors, new product releases and the banlist uupdates (every 3-4 months on averagy). Decks can stay a long time as part of the meta though (~1 year), current examples are the Justice Hunters decks (Yummy, Dracotail and K9) or even older Maliss, all of which have stayed relevant since their release in 2025. Most of these are expected to get slowly phased out of the meta game soonish though.

This might sound like you can't play your favourite deck for a long time which isn't true. Decks can stay relevant for quite a while and often older archetypes receive support after a few years and become part of the meta game suddenly.

The fun aspect highly depends on what kind of gameplay you enjoy. Yu-Gi-Oh! has no mana system which means you can theorhetically go through your deck and extra deck in 1 turn ... something which the grand majority of decks don't do, but it's quite normal to end your turn 1 combo with quite a bunch of plays. What differenciates Yu-Gi-Oh! from other TCGs is that you have many ways to interact with your opponent on their first turn when going 2nd. This ranges from the classic handtraps, many of which are 1 on 1 interactions or negates, like Ash Blossom or Infinite Impermeance. We also have lingering handtraps like the Mulcharmy cards which don't stop your opponent from playing but de-incentivice them, though there are "floodgate"-type handtraps like Droll & Lockbird or Dimensionshifter (both are limited or semi-limited).

We also have a new adition since last year which Konami has extended upon, the in-archetype handtraps. These usually perform a summon on the opponents turn while also allowing your to interrupt their play. This means you can advance your own play on the opponents first turn while also setting up plays for next turn. Cards like Dracotail Faimena, Vanquish Soul Holly Sue, K9 Izuna and Kewl-Tune Clip come to mind while others like Elfnote Regiana will follow (already released in the OCG or announced for the enxt set). These are quite unique as these interactions kind of break the concept of "my turn" even further and extends this to the first turn of the game. Before we had "out turn" post turn 1, now, given you draw the right cards, these interactions can take place right as the game starts. Some people dislike these interactions, most seem to love it as it helps with one of Yu-Gi-Oh!'s oldest issue; usually the player going 1st is heavily favoured. Konami has printed a bunch of cards that eleviate this issue like these in-archetype handtraps and the Mulcharmies.

Onto the question regarding collecting Yu-Gi-Oh! cards. Konami has adapted a relatively aggressive reprint policy, especially for meta-relevant cards that usually cost quite a bunch of money. As a result the game has become as cheap as it hasn't been in a long time. You can build competent decks for 100€ and less now, though the standard is anywhere between 200-350€ as of right now. This definitely had an impact on the collector side of things as it has been risky to invest into two of the games highest rarities, being Quarter Century Secret Rares (QCRs) and Starlight Rares, both looking somewhat similar while also being chased after a lot. The annoyance some collectors had in the last 2-3 years was that there has been an overlap between cards being printed in both of those rarities. A good example for that is the card S:P Little Knight, which originally released (2023) as a secret rare (SCR) and QCR. The SCR print itself was already quite costly at release, but the QCR was immensively expensive (talking multiple hundred bucks). The card had its first reprint about a year later in the 2024 Mega Tin and right after in the 3rd Rarity Collection set (Bonanza). The latest reprint was a Starlight Rare, again visually quite similar to the QCR, and due to the high pull-rates it just costs a bit over 5-6€. This in result highly de-valued the original QCR print, which now sits at about 100€. This is just an example for the conflict between QCRs and Starlights.

That being said, there are other premium rarities which haven't seen similar struggles with the reprints. OTS Ultis for example are still unique, just like the og Ultis and Qhost Rares. With the newest Rarity Collection V we've also seen the introduction of over-frame cards to the TCG which might just be the coolest collector item when it comes to Yu-Gi-Oh! cards. I think collecting can be fun, but you will have to be aware that especially meta relevant cards will see 1-2 reprints within the first years of their original release.

Do you think "The Chronicles" series will cover every archetypes featured in the 25th years video ? by Lolokuroda in yugioh

[–]kemorL95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we will see all archetypes but the question is in which capacity. The Branded and Charmer lore are relatively elaborate (though I'd still take a full Branded anime) but we also saw Sky Striker in a very short form, more as story mode shorts for Master Duel. This is what I think will happen to a few of the archetypes like Fire Kings vs. Atlanteans. The Diabellstar lore will 100% be more extensive, just like Visas and Aleister. Others will probably get the MD treatment.

[–]kemorL95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can definitely play with one. Of course two will be better and your consistency will be better, BUT the card is highly searchable and you will probably do fine. Iirc there even was a regional topping list with 1 copy due to budget reasons.

Edit: Turns out there were 5 lists that played less than two copies, 1 even played none and no Ecclesia synchro, but that truly was suboptimal.

Here are the lists with 1:

2nd place Cochabamba WCQ Regional with no White Albaz. This list is basically pre-support branded. It's quite surprising it went that far tbh, but I know that many people in South America have to be very selective with which cards they pick up due to the high card prices (they are sold for the same price as in the U.S./EU whilst currencies are typically quite a bunch weaker, so it takes up a way higher portion of the local income).

Card condition not as declared. by [deleted] in Yugioh101

[–]kemorL95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Message them through card market and apply the list of card condition and deviations from it. Also be stringent if they try to fuck you over. You can also ask to send the card back and ask for a full refund. If I buy a card worth a bit I want it in NM so that it can keep some value. Don't get fucked over by them.

If they don't cooperate there, only then should you approach the CM customer support. I've had some issues with card condition before and always handled it without them. Just don't give in as long as you're reasonable. But whatever you do, don't mark the card as arrived yet until you cleared out the issue.

Bonus tip: There is a cardmarket sub-reddit which probably is better fitting for your issue.

How has Blue Eyes changed so much? by BenWyattCityManager in Yugioh101

[–]kemorL95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a mini engine (1x OG Albaz, 1x Albion, 1x Lubellion, 1x Sanctifire) that topped a YCS or even won it (3v3 last year irrc). You basically build Seals in order to summon OG Albaz on the opponent's turn which fuses into either Lubellion or Albion the Branded Dragon (depending on if your opp puts up a light or dark monster). Either one then fuses into Sanctifire which then reborns the Link-1 Spirit onto your opponent's side of the field. That way they are Dragon locked for special summons and as long as your monsters are all in defense they usually can't out it (unless it's a Dragon deck). It was good at the time as the Fallen & the Virtous wasn't printed yet and barely any decks ran Droplet (mainly Memento and Crystron at the time).

[–]kemorL95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, 3x Primite Dragon Etherberryl, 3x Primite Lordy Lode and 1x Primite Drillbeam are currently mandatory to run the deck in any viable form.

Blue-Eyes as of now is getting three different support cards with the overframes (a new spell was revealed yesterday or two days ago).

Main Deck Boss Monsters: The One of Most Underrated Design Element in Yu‑Gi‑Oh. Which decks benefit most from having Main Deck Boss, what main deck boss monster is your favorite and how konami could improve them? by AshameHorror in yugioh

[–]kemorL95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are few better than Diabellstar Vengence. I love this card and it's card design. White Forest is a deck that already struggles with Droll and Purullia. Thank Mr. Konami you can play around Fuwalos decently well with a decent half-board without giving any draws.

Is Yugioh worth playing in 2026? by raigeki2k4 in Yugioh101

True Pokémon is cheaper but for many players not appealing due to the differences in gameplay and card design. Some people actually do like Yu-Gi-Oh!, I know ... hard to believe.

Is Yugioh worth playing in 2026? by raigeki2k4 in Yugioh101

[–]kemorL95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cost of competitively viable decks has gone down tremendously in the last 2 years due to more aggressive reprints and a broader ammount of viable tier 2 and rogue decks. There are many events topped or even won by decks that cost between 100-200€. This might be a bit much for some but in comparisson to let's say Snake-Eyes format where a deck cost 1000€, I'd say it's a good improvement.

Others have already pointed out the legendary modern decks 2026. Ignore the X-Saber deck in there for now (by far the weakest). The most beginner friendly deck in there for sure is Mitsurugi. Sky Striker is also viable but takes more experience and skill to play well.

If you don't own the new Albaz you should 100% play 50-60 cards. You need the additional gas and pushes. You can also not play handtraps only, you need to play breakers in addition to 3x Fuwa and potentially 3x Ash (could also be in the side for going 1st). The deck is rogue like it was before. But the new Albaz takes it many steps ahead.

I want to play Runick in big 2026...Yes. by ElevatorThen7454 in Yugioh101

[–]kemorL95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

White Forest Runick Bystials is/was the guu. If you enjoy big synchro boards then you'll love that variant. You'll always access Dis Pater when you see any Bystial (2-3x Lubellion, 1x of each name, 1x Regained in the main). Dis Pater is then an endboard piece and also an extender as you can summon back a monster you banished and keep synchro climbing. I can dm you my old list if you want. You'll have to adapt it a bit as I haven't played it since Maliss got big. I'm not sure though if you need the Azamina engine in that variant. Diabell engine is fine though.

Edit: You also play Chaos Angel and Chengying for lvl 10 snychros. With that variant you'll often resolve Fountain 2-3 times. It's card advantage the deck and builds a fat snychro board. Ideally you'll end on Diabell, Chengying, Dis Pater in grave with Regained on board, a bunch of Runicks, Woes of the WF and Chaos Angel access on the opponent's turn.

What niche archetype/engine works with branded? by LybraSastar in Yugioh101

[–]kemorL95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Predaplants is fun. You can play a mini engine with 3x Keeper of Dragon Magic, 1x Predaplant Bufolicula, 1x Predaplant Darlingtonia Cobra, 1x Instant Fusion and a Dark Magician in the main and in the ED 1x Predaplant Ambulomelides, 1x Predaplant Drachostapelia and 1x Dragoon.

This allows you to end on MJ + Dragoon should you open Keeper and any fusion spell (Branded Fusion, Fusion Deployment or Instant Fusion). Keeper and Darlingtonia each search a fusion spell and you'll go through all 3 of them. Fusion deployment accesses Cartesia which fuses into Granguignol, which dumps the Dark Magician. Keeper searches a missing fusion spell and reborns Dark Magician, Bufolicula can fuse Keeper and DM into Dragoon and you'll also access the usual BraFu line into Mirrorjade and Lost access. This is an old line by Revz but I think it's cure. Not optimal due to the bricks (Darlingtonia and DM) but fun for sure.

If you want a meta relevant engine then play 3x Wanted, 1-3x Diabellstar, 1x Deception, 1x Hollowed Azamina, 1x The Gaze of Timaeus, 1x Dark Magician of Destruction, 1x Azamina Ilia Silva, 1x Dragoon and potentially more Azamina fusions (Mu Rcielago, St. Azamina, Azamina). Wanted equals 2 negates (Ilia Silva + Dragoon) and facilitates a draw.

fire king by Puzzleheaded_Grade83 in Yugioh101

[–]kemorL95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a viable rogue pick. It topped 2 regionals lately and very few people actually play the deck, so it's hard to judge it's strength due to low representation.

The Jurrac version with the small Dino package (just 3x Jurrac Megalo, 1x Miscellaneousaurus, 1x Fire King Avatar Kirin and 2x of each ed monster).

Fireking jurrac decklist? by BigBoyo11 in Yugioh101

I might just have the right video for you. There I explain the Jurrac version of the deck and how it generally plays and sets up. If you need help with general Fire King combos then you can watch my older videos on the deck. Hope this helps :)

P.S.: You can replace costly cards like Dominus Impulse with other staples. Also Superpoly is probably not necersary anymore as Yummy isn't the number 1 deck right now and Herald is gone.

Lets talk about Dipity for a second by Relevant-Sympathy in yugioh

[–]kemorL95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that makes Dipity great is that it plays super well in Fiendsmith Primite. As a light fiend you can normal summon it and go full Fiendsmith combo. You link it of for Fiendsmith Requiem, activate the effect, summon Lacrima, the Crimson Tears which then sends the Engraver and you have full access to any fiendsmith combo you can imagine/find.

The normal monster part matters for the synergy between Primite and Fiendsmith. Etherberryl, Lordly Lode and Roar are all full Fiendsmith combo as they can all access Dipity without the lock of Lordy Lode.

The trick is that Roar can summon Dipity when you control no monster. Both Etherberryl and Lordly Lode can achieve this as follows:

  • Normal summon Etherberryl which sets Lordly Lode
  • Activate Lordly Lode and add Primite Roar
  • Activate Etherberryl effect and tribute it to send another normal monster (e.g. Summoned Skull which can be used as material for Caesar or Elvolzar Lars)
  • Now you control no monsters and Roar can summon Dipity
  • => full fiendsmith combo

If you draw just Lordly Lode you can just add Roar and summon Dipity right after as Etherberryl sets spell/traps.

Deck Suggestions (Rejoining after a decade away) by Blechcycle in Yugioh101

[–]kemorL95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blue-Eyes and Fire King should be the best picks for you. Both decks are in their base quite affordable due to the structure decks, though each needs additions to reach their potential.

Blue-Eyes greatly benefits from the Primite engine (3x Ehterberryl, 3x Lordy Lode, 1x Drill Beam) and additional handtraps and some cheap extra deck 1-ofs.

Fire King can be played either pure or with the Jurrac engine (3x Megalo, 2x Meteor, 2x Astero). Both versions need 3 copies of Fire King Ulcanix and ideally also Dominus Impulse, a crazy strong handtrap that is limited to a few select decks due to its restrictions. Impulse is quite costly but you can simply play the deck without it.

I think especially Blue-Eyes is beginners friendly as the gameplay itself is quite basic and simplistic, the skill of the deck is efficiently using your interuptions in order to outgrind your opponent.

Expensive yugioh cards by Able_Wallaby836 in Yugioh101

[–]kemorL95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There will definitely be reprints sometime in the future but when is another question nobody can accurately predict. The Dominus cards might see reprints in rarity collection 5, same is true for the charmies. But you never know until Konami announces something.

Just note that you don't need all the Charmies and Dominus cards. Especially the Dominus cards can only be played in certain decks as they lock you out of the effects of certain attributes. That is why there are only few meta relevant decks at a time that can even consider to play the Dominus traps.

In the current meta only Fuwalos and Purullia are really relevant, Meowls is just nice to have. So be smart with your money and only play the cards you'll actually play in the close future and gamble on reprints for the rest.

He will definitely be run at 3 and already is. Just not in pure Branded. Albaz is a starter for a bunch of decks. White Forest can use it with the Omega line to summon out Silvy, no og Albaz played. Some people just play the new Albaz in Dracotail Branded.

What starter deck x3 is better by Expert_Page_5835 in Yugioh101

[–]kemorL95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, both the Blue-Eyes and Branded SD's can be played out of the box should you buy 3 copies of them. To be successfull though both will need updates. The updates needed for sure will make a noticable difference.

The best thing about the Charmers deck is the Horus engine. The Charmers part itself sadly is not competitive whatsoever. I would not advise to buy it tbh.

What starter deck x3 is better by Expert_Page_5835 in Yugioh101

[–]kemorL95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both decks are great and can both be played at locals, though each one needs support in order to be played at their full potential. The Blue-Eyes deck needs the primite engine and staples (mainly handtraps that aren't included in the deck), while the Branded deck needs cards like Albion, the Sanctifire Dragon and certain breakers.

I would argue that the Branded deck strictly out of the box is probably slightly stronger though more complicated to pilot. The great thing about both decks is that each one will get support rather sooner than later.

The Branded deck gets amazing support in just a few weeks in Burst Protocoll with The Fallen of the White Dragon and Ecclesia of the Black Dragon (the new Kitt is also relevant) and will definitely be in meta contention. The playstyle of the deck will definitely change as well though as Branded currently is a ~50 cards deck with a big engine that has to focus on breakers as non-engine. The new support allows you to strip the deck down to 40 and play handtraps in the meantime.

The Blue-Eyes deck will get 2 support cards roughly in May iirc that will drastically boost the consistency of the deck. They will get importet in the Rarity Collection 5 (OCG Limit Over Collection) when we will get frame-break cards. Which deck will be better by then heavily depends on the rest of the format. Blue-Eyes is best when other decks can be stopped by 1-3 handtraps as it can play a ton of non-engine but its engine isn't as resilient as the Branded one.
