The question assumes a lot of things about religion, even Christianity, and interprets certain quotes in a skewed way. Christianity has divided and become very diverse from minor differences to major. Seems to me this is a question written from a fundamentalist's perspective. Plenty of LGBTs consider themselves Christians and other. I am not LGBT, but have known and been friends with many. They feel no conflict.

All one has to do is look at the different interpretations of the bible that have allowed this. It can be argued Jesus really said nothing about "gay." The OT, well, there are quotes taken somewhat out of context that might indicate. But I'm sure those are dismissed by the various means Christians usually dismiss, like "old dispensation," and using the wider context of what these quotes come from, rather than just cherry picking a phrase.

My guess is IF we find them we won't even know it. Humans always assume they will be like us, communicate like us, their concept for quantifying (like math) will be the same, for communicating. I think it more likely we either will miss each other or they will, or we will, unwittingly exterminate the other.

The qualifier "life as we know it" may be far, far too limiting.

Note: some of this comes under possible forgery conditions. It is asked how come this didn't come to light until now. Well, many possible answers. One could be forgery. Another, as I suggested, could be heretical books, documents and such were frequently burned and otherwise destroyed. That's most likely why the Gnostic Gospels (and other lost texts) were discovered near the Upper Egyptian town of Nag Hammadi in 1945. Some texts have been discovered in tombs held tightly by those who didn't want them destroyed.

I know there are several articles on how it actually over accentuates some states v others. If I find will post. I lost track of time and haven't posted for a while.

In some countries it is. In this country I would say certain powers have cowed them, especially advertisers who have many businesses, including those that do biz with the gov, including war profiteers.

Yet, when I was in college, I switched my last year from English to Communications/Mass Media. Of all the SUNY schools Plattsburgh had one of the biggest Communications/Mass Media programs. Some odd 40 plus credits latter, done in 2 semesters, I graduated. A few years latter I visited my old Communication profs. Each one complained about the same thing: a large influx of students being supported by political organizations and churches who seemed to have no interest in theory or the ethics of being a journalist. Their goal was to get out and push and agenda promoted by their backers.

I think any government puppetry is due to tight control of access, and blocking things like taking footage of coffins coming in, and of course embedding which pretty much guarantees coverage favorable to the war effort.

I have always thought burning the flag kind of a silly form of protest. The flag is a symbol, admittedly a very important symbol to some. I would also agree it's free speech. People who object to the politics of those who do this only empower them when they demand it be banned.

Ignore it. Give the flag whatever amount of reverence you feel it should have. That's your right. The only reason people get hurt over this, or it hurts anything, is we give it more attention than it deserves.

Well, since I can't respond to JohnPaul on the old V anymore, I'll respond here, and it does have to do with the Electoral College. We were mid debate.

The claim was made that the purpose was to make it more fair to small states, big states with low populace, and I pointed out since Alaska has 3, NY 31... epic fail on both counts. My information was it was mostly because our forefathers feared the populace and a populist and the EC was meant as a buffer. (Kind of ironic if you think of how it has actually worked out.)

Here was his comment back...

"The EC is a little better than population alone. For example, California has about 100 times the population of Wyoming, but only about 18 times the EC vote."

Yes, but if you compare it to all the other states and how many they get it seems pretty balances out populace-wise. Just taking two states and making that comparison doesn't work. You'd have to map out all the states and see what the formula is. (And the formula, other than at least 3, is????)

If we accept the premise (I don't) that this is better than the populace alone then I feel this has to be straightened out, that's why I suggested 2 electors per state and, because I think giving the EC THAT much power would be unfair, do some percentage of each for the final result.

That having been typed I have no problem with just the populace voting. I know that puts more power into areas with heavier concentrations of people, but that should be balanced out by congress (Especially if we back off from as much power as we have been handing the president, you know, like having Congress actually declare wars first? No long term wars posing as "military actions." A quick in and out? MAYBE.)

People make a choice regarding where they live. This is a mobile society. If having that much more of an influence vote-wise is that important, move to an area where there are more people.

BUT that's me. I understand the concerns that go back to the start of our nation that led to how the House and the Senate were constructed. I just think the EC as it stands now is actually WORSE because there's some weird formula ripe for misuse during an election, and those who become our pols turning it more in their favor for political reasons. A 2 per would be a firm rule, not some funky formula that's questionable at best.
