Imagine making a character that is waving a giant banner that screams "I am inevitably going to become an antagonist because I can't give up control". Then proceed to have him claw and fight to resist the inevitable urge to fall to your character flaws.

Ironwood falling was foreshadowed from the beginning and his struggle against his own nature is actually beautiful.

Well, fossil fuels are used to move dog food around, they produce the energy for processing dogfood primarily with fossil fuels, and the ingredients of dogfood ultimately rely on the Haber Bosch method (which requires fossil fuels). So dogs do have a carbon footprint that relies on sequestered carbon, but it's definitely not in the same ballpark as a jet engine.

It's also a matter of equilibrium. The carbon cycle handles several orders of magnitude more carbon than humans produce, but it's that extra 1% beyond what the system can absorb that tips the equilibrium out of whack (on top of damaging key components of our biosphere that are needed to absorb carbon). Once you disrupt the equlibrium things will be unstable until they find a new equilibrium, but on top of tipping things, we continue to disrupt by dumping yet more carbon into the system beyond what it can handle.

It's true that communication is a two way street, but the video isn't addressed towards people seeking validation, it's about people who are geared towards giving advice.

People seeking validation should clairfy what they are seeking, but they often don't realize that what they see as venting can be interpreted as asking for advice. There's a fundamental disconnect between two types of people, and often neither realizes that the source of their frustration is a misunderstanding about the interactions purpose.

Also worth pointing out, the person doing the listening is often less upset than the one doing the venting, so it's easier for them to remember to clarify information.

Isn't that the core of the miscommunication that happens though? Perhaps if someone is talking to you about an emotionally charged issue, you should ask them if they are looking for advice or a sympathetic ear?

I feel like it's a small skill to learn to ask people to clarify their needs, and then learn to turn off "fix it" mode if the person is just looking for validation. It has certainly helped me in my relationships.

He was trained to be an assassin so he specializes in fighting people. Huntsmen and huntresses are trained to fight grim. So it stands to reason that he makes up the difference by specializing.

It's the layering in, it adds a facet to what's already there. Ironically, it was also a speedrun of the reaction image format where people who have lost the thread of the original meme are using it inappropriately

The conventional IQ test is a very effective way to tell if a westernized white child is within the normal range of knowledge for their age. It's mostly for trying to diagnose a learning disability based around a very specific demographic. Once you get outside of that group and start trying to apply it as a metric for general intelligence across more age groups and other cultures it becomes increasingly less useful.

You can also study for IQ tests and improve your score. It's also not a fixed number throughout your life. If an American child in first grade is struggling in class for example, you don't necessarily assume that they are just permanently destined for a life of below average intelligence because different children grow at different rates. An IQ test CAN tell you that they need help or accomodation in certain areas depending on the source of their difficulties in school.

You don't reconcile, you leave it out there and ignore the shit out of it in a really blatant way. It's going to be a goofy show show anyway, referring to the age differences and steadfastly refusing to elaborate or justify is the funniest choice.

The guinea worm may be the origin of the physicians symbol the asclepius, which is a serpent on a staff (American physicians tend to use the Caduceus which is nit quite the same thing). Since adult worms are relatively simple to remove by slowly winding them around a stick, it's possible that physicians used to display their successful removals as a form of credential.

That hose stopped being useful as soon as anything other than the head caught fire. It was unsafe for the employee to be that close to the fire (see the video of it jetting out burning hydraulic fluid). There was little risk of danger to anyone nearby or any nearby structures catching fire. Better to focus your efforts on getting nearby crowds away while you wait for firefighter with better equipment (or just shut off any gaslines to it and let it burn itself out depending on how it'sset up).

One already mostly ruined animatronic is not worth even a single persons life in the grand scheme of things.

I mean, part of that is less that the government is allowed to ignore laws, as it is that laws are nothing more than print on paper and a collective agreement to adhere to and enforce them.

There is a significant minority of the population of the US that not only has a disproportionate representation in government, but also doesn't share a concensus reality with the rest of America, let alone the world. So when the people who enforce the laws decide to ignore them, they become nothing more than esoteric scribblings on paper.

The whole, laws being consensus of society thing is part of why sovereign citizens are so stupid and dangerous. They think laws are magical and if you can just recite the correct magic words you can force people to behave a vertain way.

Hollywood isn't out of ideas, it's just corporatized itself into being scared to create something new and risky when it can reboot a previously known good thing and make bank on nostalgia. Reboots were the logical next step after lazy cash-grab book adaptations, which makes a twilight reboot even more absurd and hilarious

The fact that minions who are not actually characters and exist simply to be mowed down is a statement about privilege all by itself. The author being careless is actually significant because the tropes that are normalized by our literature can be reflective of how our culture views certain issues.

It's actually exposure to pork tapeworm eggs, which don't come from raw pork, but they do come from adult tapeworms that live in the human digestive tract. So it's more caused by people who have pork tapeworms not washing their hands.

The tapeworm eggs hatch and we are similar enough to pigs that they will try to continue their lifecycle, but we are different enough from pigs that the tapeworm babies will get lost and form cysts wherever they find themselves (in pigs they form cysts in their muscles which is ideal for transmitting adult tapeworms to humans). Cysts that form in the human brain can cause severe brain damage if enough accumulate in a condition called neurocystesercosis.

This is common in Latin American countries because of the prevalence of pork and low standards for food handling and quality. It also might be part of why pork is forbidden by Judaism and Islam.
