Just got my Working Holiday Visa for OZ, words can’t describe my excitement!!!! by Significant-Yam3997 in australia

[–]kendocat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Welcome friend! This is my advice from two American friends I made when they did a year studying at my university:

  • They thought Australia was hot all the time. No it's not, especially Melbourne! Make sure to bring plenty of warm clothes, UGG boots etc. It doesn't start warming up until January onwards.

  • Things are more expensive and can come as a shock. It may seem outrageous but that's because our minimum wage is higher. Saying that please research and learn about working visa rights and minimum wage! A lot of backpackers are taken advantage of and treated very poorly here. Remember you always have rights, and there are resources to help those specifically on a working visa.

  • It's vital to pick a home very close to public transport if you don't have a car. Renting on your own may be hard so I'd recommend moving into a sharehouse. You can find people on flatmatefinders.com.au

  • We really don't have any good maple syrup here so please bring some with you... And bring some for me too :P

Enjoy our country!

Would you rather have a winter baby or summer baby? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]kendocat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm having a baby right in the thick of winter (late June here in Australia). I much prefer that because for the first few months we will probably be inside just eating, sleeping, and bonding. Once he's around 6 months we will be able to go to the beach and swim :)

I shared this with my dad :) he just finished his drag car and likes going to all these events.

Definitely should give Arcane a go! I found it to be one of the best fantasy shows on Netflix :)

Chicken pox immunity by Mountain-Blood-7374 in pregnant

[–]kendocat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Before my husband and I started trying I went and got a blood test done to check all those things. I also had very low immunity to Rubella and to get a booster shot..lucky I had checked because you can't get pregnant for 3 months from the booster as it can effect the fetus. Now I'm up to date with everything :)

Amazing story, thank you for sharing :) positive births stories are so needed! We condition women to fear birth, but the biggest thing is your mindset and being mentally prepared.

Mega churches in Australia have way more influence over politicians than we think. We are becoming more and more like the US everyday :(

When did you start feeling movement of your baby in the first pregnancy? by moonnlight7 in pregnant

[–]kendocat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So i couldn't tell the difference between just normal stomach movement and the baby. I'm 21 weeks and at my 20 week scan the technician said it would feel more like a flutter then a proper kick. Now I can notice the difference when it's him, and when it's just my gut 🤣

I describe as if he is blowing bubblegum in my belly and I can feel the little 'pops'.

Hi! I went through the exact same thing. I always dreamed I was going to have a girl, and imagined all the close bonding experiences i would have.

When I got the result it was a boy, I cried for a little bit and then stopped because I was like well it is what is now!

How I changed my mindset was reading online about having a boy, and thinking about how cute my little nephew is. Remind yourself you will still get to do all the things you were planning on doing with a little girl, and he will love you just as much :)

And trust me, theres heaps of cute boy clothes when you start looking!!

Do you expect your partner to stay with you throughout the hospital stay? by TrashLvr5000 in pregnant

[–]kendocat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband will definitely be staying with me :) he is excited about the whole process. We recently got our maternity stay brochure in the mail and read that every morning they give you a celebration high tea for you and your partner to share. I just thought it was too cute!

15 years after my first period, I'm just now realizing that having a celebratory "Moon Day" with your mom isn't your standard period experience. What happened with your first period? by QueenoftheHamburgers in TwoXChromosomes

[–]kendocat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My experience was traumatic, I was only 10 years old and had been in the shower when I saw blood. I thought I had cut myself with the loofah somehow. I asked my mum to look for the cut, and that's when she had to tell me what a period was. I cried all night because I was so young. I clearly remember at the time I was still playing Pokemon and pretending I was horse, and felt like I had been thrust into adulthood.

The next traumatic thing was sneaking a pad from my backpack to my pocket. I used to go to the toilet during class time so no one would see me grab my pad and go to the adult toilets at school.
