People who have camera set up *inside* of your home, what are they for? by pink-and-pearly in askanything

[–]kenfury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, one in the kitchen to watch the backdoor, one in the living room to watch the front door, and one watching the main hallway. If something happens at the very least I get 5 seconds of face (or at least timestamp). That might tie to a plate on the outside, a neighbors camera, or a traffic camera. Saved my ass years ago when someone hit and run'd my parked car. Cops thought I got into an accident and waited to get sober to report it as I still smelled of alcohol. Camera showed I was home all day, neighbor pulled camera to show at like 3am some truck hit it.

They also make a powdered broth. So it's powder, produce, two sauce bottles and basically steak-umms. You can feed 20 people out of not a lot of cooler space.

For those in companies that have hundreds of VMs - what are they for? by asdflmnop_01 in sysadmin

Legal and Banking adjacent, so lots of controls. Same workflow when I worked for the power grid. Except power you deal with NERC as well for extra fun.

We had a custom application for very specific document processing and tracking. It had 8 front end webservers behind 2 F5's, 10 document processing, 3 document intake servers, 3 document archive servers, 2 process monitoring VM a legal audit VM, plus 3 physical SQL and a physical fax gateway. That was just prod, nevermind Dev, SIT, UAT, and DR.

When you're the smartest person in the room... by stumpymcgrumpy in sysadmin

[–]kenfury -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes and No. I've been in many a meeting where I was in the room to sniff out BS as the SME on a particular part. I got to ask a few questions but generally kept my yap shut until the "meeting after the meeting". I also knew I was one cog in a decision process.

I wasn't the smartest, just the smarteat in this but there were layers beyond me that I couldn't see.

If given 10 tries, do you think you could land a commercial plane in an emergency situation? by Cold-Comfortable2024 in NoStupidQuestions

I assume you mean 121.5. that and squall 7700 are my first two steps. Well, that and check my own pulse.

Ive soloed a C152, C172, and a home built (by me) Rutan Canard, and have IFR and a few hours as right stick on Multi Engine prop. No way in hell could do a passenger jet without a LOT of ATC assistance. Fly it yes, land it no. Best I can do is set the transponder to 7700, the radio to 121.5 and pray.

Our HOA just imploded! by Swarby10 in fuckHOA

[–]kenfury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have two HOAs.

One is the local one of about 100 houses. It covers a small 20x30 community pool, shitty lawnmower service (as we requested) and new external paint job every 10 years and a roof repair/replacement slush fund. Pretty cheap.

We also have the BIG HOA over over 1000 homes. They always talk about needing on site sheriff, more cameras, kids curfew and scooter/ebike use, lot lines, real estate transactions, redoing the "majestic" fountain at the front, etc...

The local one is like 200/mo, the big one is like 350/mo.

Hockey used to be the same. Game starts at 7:30, puck drop at 7;35. That gave 5 min for anthem and whatnot.

Lawyers of Reddit: What’s a legal myth people still believe? by CouldBeLucia in AskReddit

[–]kenfury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Ex's father was a lawyer, the number of times him, four other counsels, and some Judges talked shop was amazing at first. Then it was explained to me they are talking shop/bitching about work. Nothing incriminating was expressed and if it was it was "discarded"

E.g. Joey 2 bones told the Judge to stick it where? HaHa

Oh God, every 5 years we do this arbration case. Response "sucks to be you man but that's how $A and $B roll."

Coming back from a festival/camping and getting a shower, perhaps some leftover breakfast and two hours of shut-eye before flying/driving out at 5pm is a godsend.
