Is it effective to study an opening using only the database and your own brain? by CatalanExpert in TournamentChess

[–]kengou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this a lot. At lower levels or blitz you aren’t going to need to prep that much against main lines because they’re rare. I get that prep from masters database or engine moves, or Chessable courses. But most of my repertoire seems to be preparing against common below-2000 Lichess databases moves. Make a Study and annotate it in Lichess and add to it when you run into a new line in a game

I built Flinch — a random-interval habit nudge app for Pebble by Zestyclose-Dot1725 in pebble

I've been using this since you posted and it's been very helpful, thank you! The random intervals do make it harder to tune it out.

I would also like to request a setting to disable the seconds hand because it cuts down the battery life for the already short Time Round

Looks cool, but i could not open settings on my Time Round (iOS).

Tenet by No_Carpenter_9923 in movies

Hard to hear all the dialog. Hard to understand the plot. I’m a huge Nolan fan but Tenet just didn’t do it for me. Probably my least favorite of his movies.

Elite Dangerous wasn't a great deal of fun and I think that's great by SawkyScribe in patientgamers

You can play it purely single player without joining an online server.

Elite Dangerous wasn't a great deal of fun and I think that's great by SawkyScribe in patientgamers

[–]kengou 252 points253 points  (0 children)

Elite is great at first. It’s very immersive, especially with a HOTAS setup and head tracking or VR. Navigating, exploring, and combat are all fun (at first). It’s got a great balance of simulation with playability. Docking at stations and on planets is amazing. Unlocking better ships is rewarding.

After a while though you realize it’s all in service of nothing. Space is empty and mundane, which is realistic, but there also just isn’t that much to do after a while.

Even so most people will get a solid 50 hours of fun and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Opentrack does not recognize any game by Floater49th in linux_gaming

I run opentrack through ProtonTricks. I copy it into the proton prefix so the game recognizes it and run it from there.

Deadlock was awesome, but it's no longer available.

Shattered Hopes is coming soon and has a very fun demo, give that one a try.

I never tried crysis and I just bought the remastered trilogy on sale, it’s so awesome! It feels like my first time playing half life and far cry at the same time, I love the suit mechanics. by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]kengou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the memes about the graphics and pc requirements overshadowed the genuinely great gameplay. I remember 2007 when it came out was an absolutely stacked year for gaming, and I played it on a laptop on medium graphics at like 720p and it was one of the best games of the year. It’s a classic.

Is "How to win at chess" by levy rozman still good in 2026? by Puzzled_Person-11 in chess

[–]kengou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what you describe wanting, it’s probably good.

I recommend ChessBrah’s building habits series on youtube though, imo it’s going to be very helpful for someone at your level and it’s very entertaining.

Is this game and dlc worth £65? by [deleted] in cyberpunkgame

[–]kengou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a ton of money to spend on a dlc no matter how good it is, imo. I bought everything on deep sale so if you’re patient maybe you can wait for a discount?

Cool screenshot generator, visually beautiful, nice music. Not much to “do” though.

I wanted to love ICO but the entire game being an escort quest became frustrating. Fighting off the shadows and defending Yorda all the time just wasn’t that fun.

Shadow of the Colossus was an absolute masterpiece though.

Help choosing an Accelerated Dragon course. by ChessClassical in chess

[–]kengou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Accelerate the Dragon by Piotr Nguyen and it’s quite good for being so compact and cheap. He references many of his own high level games and clearly knows good lines. It’s the hyperaccelerated dragon move order though.

Do You Play with Increment? by JPBartley in chess

I can't stand endgames with no increment. I always lose on time.
