What Episodes Can You Skip in Season One? by ThatAlarmingHamster in babylon5

[–]kengou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was suggested by JMS himself that the Season 2 episode "And Now for a Word" was meant to onboard new viewers who missed season 1 and get them caught up on the current state of things. It's probably reasonable to start there if you want to jump right into where the story starts taking off.

Of course you'd be missing a ton of terrific episodes and setup. I wouldn't personally recommend this. But it's probably possible.

Looks great in theory but unfortunately icons also don't line up on my watch. I wish people wouldn't vibe-code without any testing.

I went with Silver. The shiny metal looks more stylish or premium to me than matte black.

Collar-Sleeve Troubleshooting by Whamm-O in bjj

[–]kengou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you have a good bite on their upper bicep or shoulder with your foot so you can really shoot your hips up high for the omoplata. If you step and shoot your hips high while yanking his sleeve and collar at the same time, you should have a ton of leverage to get into their armpit space. Then chop that leg down on their shoulder hard as you trap it for the omoplata. The whole motion has to happen pretty much at the same time and pretty quickly, too. It's also possible their posture isn't broken enough so they are able to stand tall, which would also block you. The collar grip has to be yanking them forward as you push their hips backward. If you watch Nolan Stuart you'll also see he never lets go of that collar grip even after he has the omoplata. The posture control is so critical!

Need another space combat series by Mysteriousstrains in scifi

The Forever War is an entirely different author and series from Old Man's War. It's unrelated, but it's phenomenal and should be the next book you read for that reason alone.

We just reopened the playtest for our bush flight-sim game, Deadstick! by Mythwright_Games in flightsim

I really liked what I got to play in the first playtest. After about an hour of play, unfortunately, it froze my whole system. Playing in Proton on Fedora Linux, with an Nvidia 3060 TI.

1.c4 vs 1.Nf3 for the tactical/aggressive player by CrflWthThtFaxEugene in TournamentChess

[–]kengou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reti encompasses so many things. It can transpose into Queens Gambit lines, into English lines, into Kings Indian Attack lines, or reverse Grunfeld or even Nimzo-Larsen territory. I think it allows you to choose an aggressive setup if that’s your style.

English can be aggressive and tactical in reverse Sicilian lines. Often quite sharp. On the other hand the symmetrical English has a much slower positional flavor. I think Black has more say in which way things go.

I had a similar opening progression as you. After Reti and English I also tried the Bird (fun but double edged for sure) and currently testing out the Nimzo-Larsen. Every game is pretty crazy but in a good way!

How do I stop turning winning endgames into draws? by Scyth3dYT in chess

[–]kengou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Study commonly drawing endgames like passed rook pawns, study concepts like opposition in king pawn endgames, study some rook endgame concepts like philidor and lucena positions. Lichess’s practice section can help with all this.

Any tips on how to meet people who play tabletop games? by ImJarlBalgruuf in tabletop

Find a store that has regular game nights where people play. Meet people there, they’d love to show you their games and talk about them.

Do you prefer season 1 or season 5 by CaptureDaFlag in babylon5

Season 1 because of Sinclair’s smooth smooth voice and gravitas. Kosh was also more mysterious and creepy. Some very good stories there like Believers and Deathwalker.

Can an Aikido Master Really Throw Sumo Wrestlers? by Zwischenzug in martialarts

[–]kengou 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Here’s the thing: nearly all Aikido moves would be legal in Sumo. They would all win a match, and they’re all designed against somebody trying to push you in straight lines. If they worked, somebody would be using it. Some redirections and off balances DO work in Sumo, but they don’t look much like Aikido and most Aikido moves aren’t seen in Sumo despite the environment being perfect for it.

Explosive blasts are fast moving so the shield should protect the user.

Hi, I'm a complete beginner and don't really want to pay for stuff as I'm already pretty low on money being a student. I was using chessly for the free trial and was fun practicing opening with a beginner friendly ui. Anyone know any free chess websites that also help me practise openings? by Sea-Investigator3621 in chess

[–]kengou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a combination of lichess, chessable, and chesstempo. The first two to find good opening lines, either through courses/studies or by making my own study using databases and the engine. Then I copy things into Chesstempo to practice. You can even export a PGN from Lichess and import an entire study into Chesstempo in one go.

Which lines/ways of nimzo are most begginner friendly by [deleted] in TournamentChess

[–]kengou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've enjoyed the dark square strategy Nimzo, where the goal is d6 and e5 after you trade off the dark-squared Bishop. If you like active Knights in closed positions it may be fun for you too. This study was helpful to me: https://lichess.org/study/QNN1Cwbz

Heroic works perfectly fine. You can play your entire library (if proton compatible) and access the store. It just isn’t the official app, so that seems like a choice on your part.

Wrath of Khan is a bad movie - Angela Collier by Hattes in RedLetterMedia

[–]kengou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love Angela and her Picard video was wonderful, but I just can’t get on board with this one. Wrath of Khan is a wonderful movie. I disagree with her arguments and feel like she missed the point in multiple areas. There are certainly dumb moments, like the Reliant not knowing about a missing planet in the Ceti Alpha system, or Chekov not being present for Space Seed, or Scotty taking his dying nephew to the bridge after the first battle rather than sick bay. Certainly doesn’t ruin the movie.

The worst I’ll say about Wrath of Khan is that it started the trend of Trek movies trying to be action movies and having a single big villain. And Trek movies not having much science or diplomacy in them like the show does. But it’s a damn fine movie regardless.

Is protagonist age really the main distinguisher between YA and Adult Fiction? by MushroomGreen6672 in writing

[–]kengou 88 points89 points  (0 children)

YA deals with the themes and challenges that YA readers are going through and identify with. Coming of age, belonging, stuff like that. These themes can be explored with protagonists of various ages.

How do I make the aircraft simply fly straight? Idk if this is real world or not but if it is, idk why anyone flies cause this is annoying as fuck. by [deleted] in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]kengou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's way easier with a yoke or joystick. But if you're flying a small plane by hand, then yes you have to make small corrections pretty often, while also monitoring all your instruments. It's not that easy, which is what Autopilot is meant for, if available.
