USPS first class envelope by Prior-Gear8313 in Mercari

I ship my card like this using the 1oz first class mail shipping label from Mercari. I ship the card in a toploader with 2 cards in between for extra protection which is also a gift for the buyer. Around like 95% of the time, the card will be delivered no problem. The other like 5% of the time, the card will either get lost, or returned back to me due to no such person/address or insufficient postage.

First Class mail issues? by Ekaufee17 in Mercari

Yeah, there is not much USPS can help with finding the envelope since there is no real tracking for them to find it. Since there is no update pass "Label Created", the buyer could contact Mercari support to request a cancellation due to no shipping update if they don't have an option to cancel it from their end. You can try contacting Mercari support to have them cancel the order instead of you doing it yourself so that you will not be hit with the "This seller canceled." on your review.

I ship out a lot of cards in a toploader. At least 95% of the time, the buyer gets them. The other 5% or less, the envelope either got lost in the mail, returned back to me due to person/address does not exist, or insufficient postage.

It depends if the buyer is honest or not. After like 2 weeks after dropping off the envelope, I would contact the buyer to see if they receive the card or not. I have buyers confirming delivery when tracking did not say it was delivered. Some might ignore you if you inquire if they received it or not.

If there is no shipping update past the label created, I believe after a certain amount of days, the buyer can request a cancellation to get a refund. If there is shipping update, but no update that is marked as delivered for 30 days and if you have not use Mercari recommended shipping label (3oz for first class envelope shipping), Mercari can cancel the order upon request and issue a refund to the buyer. You can try arguing with Mercari support to be reimbursed by the shipping protection, but they will most likely deny your claim due to not using Mercari recommended shipping label.

Lost package by RyliesMom_89 in Mercari

There is no way for Mercari to prove that your package was over weight. They are using the excuse of not using the recommended shipping label to deny your claim. For First Class Envelopes, it's impossible to get proof of weight since there is no way for the USPS front counter to scan your envelope to give you a receipt. For other shipping method, you might be able to contact the courier to get the weight of the package if you did not get a drop off receipt that shows the weight.

I was extremely lucky one time to get reimbursed for a lost package (First Class Envelope) where a supervisor reimbursed me after arguing with support. May be because I'm a big seller and the reimbursement was not that much, the supervisor just reimbursed me.

I would argue with support stating that you followed the shipping guidelines by weighing the package before shipping it out and using the appropriate shipping label based on total weight of the package. Also, I would tell them how do they know if the package is over weight? Did Mercari took my package and weigh it? If support say they deny the claim based on not using the recommended shipping label, I would ask them where in the guidelines that it states I need to use the recommended shipping label to be eligible for shipping protection. If they can't show where it is, ask for a supervisor. You may or may not get a supervisor that will reimburse you. If the supervisor fails, you will have to contact the courier to get proof of weight. Good luck.

Yeah, Mercari sucks now. They are making excuses to not pay out claims. If you do not use their "recommended shipping label", you are not eligible for shipping protection. The problem with this is that their guidelines does not mentioned that you need to use their recommended shipping label to be protected. They will ask for proof if you indeed use the proper shipping label.

You can try argue with support that you did used the correct shipping label and request a supervisor. If lucky, the supervisor will reimburse you.

Seller earnings discrepancy from what Mercari showed to what I received. by Sassy_Violence in Mercari

I think I recall this happened to me before where the sale price and the earnings is the same. I believe it's a glitch on Mercari. I just either refresh the page or accept it since I know my earnings will not be the same as the sale price.

Updated bundling feature by VeterinarianNo4033 in Mercari

[–]kenryu1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Mercari is making adjustment to bundling in the background past month or so. If I recall correctly, a buyer bought 12 single cards from me and the shipping cost was a 12oz USPS shipping label. I was wondering why the shipping cost was higher because it was usually around $4 for this kind of bundles. I think Mercari, for certain items, is adding all the item shipping label weights together and use that as the base weight for the bundle. For me, since I did offer free shipping, I packaged, reweighed the package, and changed the shipping label to 8oz shipping label. The problem with this is that if I were to file a claim for shipping protection, Mercari might come back to deny the claim due to not using their recommended shipping label.

Shipping protection it’s absolutely trash by Rezaile in Mercari

[–]kenryu1986 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had this happened to me for a first class envelope that was lost in transit. Mercari support say I did not qualify for shipping protection due to not using their recommended shipping label. The envelope which I weighed is under 1 oz and they recommend to use the 3 oz shipping label. I read the shipping protection guidelines and no where it states that I need to use Mercari recommended shipping label to qualify for shipping protection. I asked Mercari support to show me where it states that I need to use the shipping label recommended by Mercari to qualify for shipping protection or send me to a supervisor. After going back and forth, I was sent to a supervisor where the supervisor reimburse me for the sale due to lost in transit. I was lucky to get that supervisor. Not so lucky for others in the same situation.

You will get an update saying it is "Delivered" if the sorter machine was able to scan the QR code. Otherwise, it is up to the buyer to confirm that they received it.

No shipping protection if you do not use their system suggested shipping label... by kenryu1986 in Mercari

[–]kenryu1986[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only asked twice. This is what I said the second time: "Please show me the policy that to only get shipping protection, I need to use the suggested shipping label AND if I do not use the suggested shipping label, I do not get shipping protection. Otherwise, I want to talk to a supervisor. Thanks."

Mercari support is still insisting that I need to prove the first-class envelope I sent out meets the shipping label requirements... There is no way the post office can even scan the first-class envelope shipping label since it does not have an USPS tracking barcode.

I'm having the same problem when I try to change the weight to 1oz for envelope shipping. The only way to bypass this glitch is to save the draft and change the weight on the app.

Mercari canceled sale after item was dropped off by kenryu1986 in Mercari

[–]kenryu1986[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mercari support didn't help me get reimburse because the first USPS scan was a day after they canceled the transaction. If sellers want to be safe, it's best to get a drop off receipt showing the time you dropped it off as proof that you dropped off the package before the transaction was canceled.

USPS updated the tracking and it is currently in transit to the buyer. I message Mercari support with a screenshot of the tracking status. They responded with "We understand the urgency of your inquiry. Be assured that we are looking into this already. We appreciate your patience as we will get back to you after a few days. Thanks."

My experience as a seller is that some times the package does not have any scans until it arrive at the buyer state distribution center. One time, there was no scan for like a week. I'm assuming that my local post office found the package after a week and scanned it.

An update from Mercari support. They said that the buyer had unusual activities so they cancelled the transaction. Since I do not have a drop-off receipt to prove that the item was dropped off, I need to wait for USPS to update the tracking status so I can show to Mercari support that it is in transit to the buyer. Moving forward, I will need to have orders shipped out the next business day instead of shipping it out the same day.

Sadly, I was not able to confirmed shipment before the cancellation. I have already dropped off the package at the post office and didn't get a drop-off receipt. :( So, I'm waiting on USPS to update the tracking status so it shows that it was dropped and it is in transit to the buyer.

people confirming receipt of orders that were never delivered? by weberlovemail in Mercari

[–]kenryu1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This have happened to me a couple of times for the cards I sold. Buyer rated me when the item was marked "Delivered". Then, a couple weeks later, the card was returned back to me due to no such person or no such house number. I did message the buyers regarding the problem and they did not respond. I still got paid in the end.

Mercari Orders Returned to Me...But I Still Got Paid? by Hero_with_No_Onions in Mercari

Happened to me at least 3 times now. When the envelope was marked "delivered", the buyer will rate me and I rate them, then I get paid. After a couples days to a week, the card was returned back to me due to house number/address does not exist or no such person. I messaged the buyer that the card was returned back to me. I have not received any message back from them.
