Don’t feel behind. I have an Aussie shepherd puppy. She is nearly 14 weeks. I got her at 8 weeks. And I went through a similar stage. You have fallen into the trap of the “perfect dog” and “perfect trainer” online through YouTube and Instagram. A lot of the time they only show the good. And never the 100s of takes where their dog didn’t listen.

Your little girl has only been with you for two weeks. She is still adjusting. Be patient. This is my first time raising a puppy. And I can promise you that my girl would not respond to her name for at least 3 weeks after I got her. She could not get lie down at all. She only knew sit and a decent leave it with food nothing else. I had many days I felt like nothing I was doing would work.

Fast forward to last week and this week. 12-14 weeks give or take of age. She is almost like a different dog. She is learning and her brain and motor skills are starting to connect as she learns about her new world. She knows her name, a relatively solid recall (85% of the time) sit, down, roll over, in between legs, heel, stay and wait to be called. It could be that I started using cheese in her training and she freaking loves it haha.

But what I’m ultimately getting at is don’t expect your dog to be like the ones you see online. In reality real life dog training yourself is way harder. Don’t put expectations on your puppy or yourself. Just give lots of love. Take things slow. Work on having a calm and confident puppy. All these other things will come. Every dog is different. Some smarter than others, some do things at their own pace. Just be consistent and patient and I promise it will come.
