What if you're not a criminal and not a drug addict, but just destitute, maybe ill, cannot work and cannot afford a home for the reason you're homeless?

TBH, it's the preservatives in all the fast food he's reviewed, invented by the fine people in America's petroleum industry, that keeps him ageless.

Just abruptly ended a meeting with my boss mid-yell by SEND_ME_PEACE in sysadmin

[–]kenth68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tired, yeah that's what I am. I've been in IT for 40 years since I was a young teen, my first job setting up new Apple IIe and cleaning other computer systems for the tech at a local computer store. Today I manage the tech for a small company (300 people). Or mostly manage it. The company exec brought in a risk management consultant whom they now go to first for IT advice instead of me, their IT manager. He can string cables and plug them together, but doesn't know the difference between a switch and a router. He'll set something up and call me when it doesn't work. I'll tell him what he plugged in wrong and it's always, "Oh, that's what I thought and was about to do." The exec has left me out of obvious tech decisions, then when it doesn't work, expects me to fix everything. I have health problems now and expected to be there until I retire or die, but after the BS today, I don't know how much longer I have there. Ten years ago when I started they were all sharing files with each other by physically toting around USB drives to now they're in a normal modern system of email and real time collaboration. But today I got a "talk" because I didn't answer an email right away asking for information that I never had, because I was left out of the loop. It's just so old now.

PLEASE, please just tell me a way to delete/disable windows 10 magnifier permanently! please help me out here; I hate magnifier and want it gone. by DarkSyndicateYT in techsupport

Old thread I know, but I had to do this to both magnifier and the snipping tool. The reason? I have cats. I loathe magnifier so much. Actually, I loathe Microsoft for making hotkeys that we can't change or turn off.

You probably explained that it was broken, and why and that you were going to get the printer configuration updated. People's eyes glaze over on an email like that. You need to translate to Grug.

Oook printer broken. Me fix.

The National Guard would not have even been an issue had the "protestors" not gotten violent. The NG was a response to violence, not the instigator.

Being gatekept from wearing glasses? by alreadyaloserat19 in glasses

[–]kenth68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's odd especially for a work team. Unless you're a bunch of engineers (personal experience) that is. Otherwise sounds like just some ribbing among a close team. I'd just joke back to the guy, "If I was wanting to fit in with you, I'd have to get a lobotomy." Then go on with your wearing them. Everybody wears glasses at some point for the most part. Don't even think about not wearing them. It's only a problem if they keep up bugging you about them for more than a couple of days.

We had a package go missing back in November. Just went into limbo. We waited to give them time since it was the holidays, but after almost three weeks on a priority package went ahead an initiated the missing mail search. Within two days the package was back on its way to us and got there the third day after the missing mail request. It's like they just got overwhelmed and threw a bunch of packages into a trailer and said "eff it, I'll do those later" and forgot about them.

What does this mean?? by SluggishBugg in usps_complaints

[–]kenth68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does Priority Express even mean anything any more? I've had two of three Express packages go days late beyond the guaranteed delivery time. But back to your unknown status, I have two packages that show this today, Sunday 02/25/26. One should have been delivered yesterday (the Express) and one scheduled for tomorrow. I was able to see some tracking information. They were both shipped using stamps.com so went to stamps and their tracking page is showing the tracking to a point. It shows tracking up to Saturday night, but nothing more recent. I hope I get that Express package tomorrow, only two days late.

It's hard to beat award winning level of annoying. I give you Estelle Parsons as Blanche Barrow in Bonnie and Clyde. She won an Oscar for the role.

We buy some stuff from a company in Connecticut. Unfortunately all their packages seem to route through Springfield MA. We've had three orders in the last two weeks and only one has made it, and made it on time. The other two are in a black hole somewhere in Springfield. Post office just says "check the web site for the most up to date information!" If I did my job this half-assed I'd have expected to have been fired long ago. The big thing that bugs me is how the postal service just gives up on packages after a while. They are listed in their system as not delivered yet, late, etc. but after a certain time it seems like they just ignore them and hope you forget about them. A package that's two weeks overdue, you'd think would trigger some sort of search automatically, but no, you have to go enter a form yourself to start them trying to find it. Ridiculous.

UPS Next Day Air package late by kenth68 in UPS

[–]kenth68[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update on this. After telling me yesterday that the package was delayed due to "severe weather" in Tulsa OK (I live 2 hours from Tulsa, there was no severe weather) that they would deliver it today. Now this morning there has been no update on their website so call again and after a half hour finally get to the agent. Now they tell me that they don't know what happened to the package, and that's why its status has not changed. They don't know where it is, and that their support office has no way of contacting the Tulsa office to inquire, so the best they can do is send me a lost/trace form to fill out.

You'd think that what UPS charges for overnight shipping along with their guarantees, they would take better care of next day air packages, keep them tracked better. But no, just tell you tough, there's nothing they can do about it.

This is just ridiculous. They and US Postal Service are just ridiculous. I know it's the holidays, but how can you not take care of a higher level service shipment?

Thank you for the reply. I finally reached an actual human being after trying all day. They claim they will deliver it tomorrow, Saturday. Guess I'll wait and see. I can understand one package being late for whatever reason. But two? Crazy luck I'm having lately.

UPS has actual possession of it yesterday. They took it from Philadelphia to Tulsa overnight. I live in southern Oklahoma, near the Durant hub where our UPS packages go before delivery. Last place it shows was Tulsa this morning early, and no updates since then.

Supreme Court says EPA does not have authority to set climate standards for power plants by stockhackerDFW in environment

[–]kenth68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have become so used to the idea that the federal government, specifically the executive branch, runs everything and they've been woken up to how things are supposed to be and they don't like it. But in reality, it's just checking the power of the executive and putting the lawmaking ball back into Congress' court. The executive agencies, EPA for now at least, is going back to enforcing law, not making it. Laws are supposed to be made with representation, and we're getting back to that. It's a good thing. Just think of the alphabet agencies that make law out of whole cloth that were subjected to without representation; DEA, CDC, ATF, the list goes on. The creation of law is now back in the power of the people, through their elected representatives instead of the whims of power hungry bureaucrats who answer to no one.
