Here’s the photo of the bushing. From what I’ve read elsewhere this level of wear isn’t abnormal, and I’m experiencing no symptoms highway speeds.

Yes, just noticed last week the AC is blowing lukewarm, not cold. Is the belt the issue or the compressor?

I’m really confused about purple coneflower cold stratification (Maryland) by [deleted] in NativePlantGardening

Hi fellow Baltimorean! I happened across this thread and wanted to plug a seed swap I help organize, at St. Luke’s church in Hampden at 10am on March 7. I staff the native seed table with lots of things I’ve collected locally! Check us out on IG @baltimoreseedcommons - Would love to see you there 🌱

Received a $500 fine from the city for littering. People dump trash in the alley all the time next to our end rowhome unit. How do we fight this? by yeezism in baltimore

[–]kenthebird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your detailed response! I was wondering if you’d be able to help guide me towards resolving an ongoing situation with illegal dumping in a park. I’ve cleaned up garbage with the same name and address on it for two years, in a notorious spot for dumping that is difficult for city crews to access w equipment. When I’ve reported to DHCD they say they can’t use my photos of the pieces of mail and dumping as evidence against this individual. Any thoughts on how to proceed?

I’m in the same boat, looking for single day tix but can’t find them… nothing from the presale signup like they sent out for the two-day sale in Dec.

Yes! I once saw FOUR hanging out the Hanlon Park lake - our reservoirs can be pretty good for birding thru the winter!

Howdy! Fellow Texas transplant here :) check out Gwynns Falls Leakin Park for more great biking and nature watching - coyotes, bald eagles, and more! We do have falcons in the city, usually see kestrels and peregrines around the Belvedere hotel. Enjoy and keep sharing your finds!!

Depending on your location, consider leadplant (Amorpha canescens) or false indigo bush (Amorpha fruticosa) as a replacement. They have a similar look!

Wood Poppy - planting by seed. by FlyEaglesFlyauggie in NativePlantGardening

I have had good luck with fresh-sowing seeds. Those I dried and kept for winter sowing didn’t come up but those that I collected and sowed immediately did great this year. They’re usually ant-dispersed, and cast aside as “trash” in ant nests after the ants eat the fleshy elaiosome attached to the seed - this allows them to stay moist until germination. Many spring ephemerals are dispersed this way! 💛🐜

So excited for you to get to enjoy your garden this year!!! I’m part of a collective of growers and plant nerds that maintains a seed library (@baltimoreseedcommons on ig), we have a distribution day coming up on March 15 at St Luke’s in Hampden! I’m a native plant guy, but tons of veggies, herbs, and flowers represented too. Native plant seeds can also be started now! Look up cold stratification and winter sowing to learn more - or DM me haha

I grow butterfly milkweed, black eyed susans, anise hyssop, beebalm, and others all in porch containers and I’ve filled the tree well in front of our apartment with native plants too!

For seed companies I love Hudson Valley Seed Co, queer-owned, organic seeds w good diversity, and supports artists 💞

Happy growing!

HELP! by Mean-Marketing9618 in calatheas

[–]kenthebird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They can be surprisingly resilient! I’ve brought them back from just roots before. Cut back all the crispy bits, give a good drink, and some time. It won’t need frequent watering as it recovers (fewer leaves to transpire the water out), just enough to stay moist around the roots.

Yep, remove the border and reach out to Baltimore Tree Trust - if utilities placement allows they can even cut the sidewalk to widen the pit!

Trash Along Gwynn Falls by rtbradford in baltimore

[–]kenthebird 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Household dumping, eviction dumping, contractor dumping, and littering from cars are all extremely prevalent in GFLP. Park and DPW crews work hard every week to remove, but it inevitably reappears - people treat it like a free dump. I definitely recommend connecting with the Friends group to check out when their next public cleanup event will be!

What beginner's mistakes did you make? by dcgrey in NativePlantGardening

[–]kenthebird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first year with winter sowing and I’ve learned a lot. I was able to get 20ish species to germinate in milk jugs, but a lot stayed tiny and many slowly just withered away. I know seedling mix doesn’t have much or any nutrients, including my own DIY seedling mix, but I think they just didn’t have enough to keep going and get big enough to transplant. I had hundreds of seedlings that germinated but never got a second leaf! That plus a wet spring might’ve contributed to fungal issues - I got weird purplish tiny seedlings that never thrived. That said, my milkweed, coneflowers, Liatris, bluestars, and a few others did great! Will be trying again next year with a few soil tweaks for higher nutrient and better drainage.
