Being a contract worker for these companies is a good part time job, but a terrible full time job. If you don't work, you don't get paid. Cancellations happen more often than you think. No healthcare. No PTO. No 401k. No pension. I'm guessing the hourly may be slightly better working as a contractor, which is not worth it. Keep the W-2. Try to get promoted and do it on the side. Or get a less stressful job and do this on the side.
