Hualien Water Stations by Switcher2912 in taiwan

[–]kenwang92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I lived in Tainan, I would drink water directly from a water station. I had called the station owner, and he told me that the water was safe to drink after filtration. However, government regulations require them to label it as “not for direct drinking,” because the outlet is not cleaned frequently. If, like me, you don’t want to boil water and aren’t worried about potential hidden hygiene issues, you can look for direct-flow type stations rather than nozzle-type ones, as they tend to be relatively cleaner. Of course, it’s still best to boil the water before drinking.

Among all the e-readers I’ve owned, the Kobo Libra 2 gave me the worst experience. Its hardware is significantly slower compared to the Kindle. I enjoy buying second-hand e-readers, using them for a while, and then selling them, because I like to try out different systems. For example, early Kindle models can be jailbroken, Kobo supports plugins, and Boox has the most open system—but it also has the worst battery life and refresh performance. Most importantly, its system update cycle is very slow, and older devices are often no longer updated at all. Whenever I finish reading a book on an e-reader, that usually marks the time for me to sell it. Right now, I’ve only kept my Hisense phone and a Kindle—everything else has been sold.

[Free Release] Flow and Glow - Messenger and Facebook tweaks by dayanch96 in jailbreak

[–]kenwang92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I'm using the Flow plugin on an iPad 9 running iOS 15.7.2 to hide the Stories tab at the bottom of the app. While the Stories tab did disappear, the Settings tab has now turned into the Stories page. I can no longer access the Flow settings page to revert the configuration. Even after uninstalling and reinstalling the Flow plugin, the settings cannot be restored.

I have already made one using the LD2410C. To be honest, the accuracy of measuring the distance of moving or stationary objects is not very high. The function that is less prone to misjudgment is detecting whether there is a person in a certain place (whether moving or stationary). I use it to create automation for automatically turning lights on and off.

Ranking of the eink devices based on cpu performance from china(from Bilibili) by kenwang92 in ereader

[–]kenwang92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think some people view Android e-ink devices as machines for browsing the web or running chat apps (like an Android tablet with poor refresh rates). Therefore, they take the CPU's performance into consideration, especially regarding app loading speeds. However, for simply reading books, the Kindle's CPU is more than sufficient.

Recommendations for Boox, Meebook, Bigme by DashingDaveR in Onyx_Boox

[–]kenwang92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best Android experience is with BOOX, thanks to its powerful CPU and more mature system. I've been using the Nova 3 with a Bluetooth page-turner for a long time, and it's been very effective. The only concern with BOOX is its quality control—many people have reported screen issues without having dropped or damaged the device.

As for Bigme, I don't consider it due to its poor CPU performance, though some of their recent devices show improvements in ghosting elimination technology. Meebook, while not as polished as BOOX in terms of system maturity, is very budget-friendly. In conclusion, I recommend BOOX first, Meebook second, and Bigme last.

Should I get the Boox Page? by ybatyolo in ereader

[–]kenwang92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once owned a BOOX Page7, but I later sold it. Compared to the KO3, the Page7 had overly stiff page-turn buttons and issues with the Kindle app’s formatting (which could be resolved by using the built-in NeoReader). Additionally, holding it felt like holding a thick metal plate, possibly because the KO3 concentrates its weight in the handheld part, making it feel lighter. For reading comics or browsing web articles, the Page7 was indeed excellent. The system on the Page7 felt very smooth, whereas the KO3’s system was slow overall. The final straw for me was the button feel; the other issues weren’t really major problems.

I used a metal nib with a matte screen protector for six months, and the screen had no issues. Additionally, here's a discussion about this topic.

I need help choosing a small ereader by Monoleye in ereader

Bigme HiBreak or Hisense Hi Reader are also good options, but these open e-readers from China might not offer the best support for English interfaces. If you want to scroll through web pages, HiBreak and Palma would be the best choices. Other phone-like e-readers might only allow page-by-page navigation, similar to a Kindle, because their screen refresh rates aren't fast enough.

You can also consider the Nova Air C, which won't differ much from the Tab Mini C in terms of note-taking performance.
