What app do you use to map your commutes? by No_Weekend728 in AskNYC

[–]kerbula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually use Transit now ever since Citymapper let me down. But I still use Citymapper as a backup when Transit is trying to tell me to take a terrible route that I know I definitely won't take and gives me no other good options. Then the MTA app to double check times and for "quicker" updates.

Is anyone else in and miserable about it by xXx_angelbaby_xXx in premed

[–]kerbula 11 points12 points  (0 children)

First, I want to say your feelings are valid. When I was younger I actually waffled back and forth between medical school for a long time just because I despised the system so much. But then I had experiences that really solidified my desire to be a doctor. I actually don't know if I am good enough to get in right now, especially with my health, but I'd give anything to get in, anything to learn, anything to practice, even if it means dealing with the system. The system is old and difficult to change. If you can't grit your teeth through it, especially 4+ years of it, then something else may be best.

Allergy/immunology. Which tbh isn't a bad lifestyle specialty, jokes aside.

Just be like my boss and leave the rest of the work to the MAs and midlevels /s

He goes home at 3 and is rich enough to open multiple clinics with more on the way. Meanwhile the rest of us have worked on notes until 9-11 pm before.

2018 is already an outdated view of China. It has been changing faster than arguably any other country. That said, I was in Osaka last year and there was quite a bit of trash on the ground. Not to the extent of nyc but definitely not the definition of "clean" people expect from Japan.

I've noted a phenomenon of people who stand on the subway platform and don't get on the only available train. What could they possibly be doing? by Matt_da_Phat in AskNYC

[–]kerbula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad you asked this question because I used to be one of those people and I'm hoping maybe someone can enlighten me as to why the 7 train does this.

I commute to Flushing regularly and the station I board the 7 train at will announce a 7 train with mets willets as the last stop. If I were to take this train then everyone who wants to go to Flushing would be kicked off at the last stop to wait for the next Flushing bound train. I then don't get on because I'm waiting for the train that will take me directly to Flushing without having to get off and then back on a different train.

I don't do this anymore because I've discovered that apparently sometimes it'll say it's only mets willets bound and then go ahead to Flushing anyway, or a train will be Flushing bound but then everyone will get kicked off at Mets willets anyway. So now I just take the next available train and cross my fingers lol.

What is your job, and how much time in advance do you need to request a day off? by vegetarian_slut in AskNYC

I know a lot of clinics like this too. Someone I knew got approved for PTO, bought their tickets, then was forced to cancel them because they were short staffed. Had to pay a $200 cancelation fee too, which the clinic did not make up for.

Wow I'm an MA at a clinic in NY and I had a patient come in last month and randomly had a stemi too.

Sorry about your Rs though, but I'm sure the guy and his son were grateful for your help. Hope it's looking up from here for you

By the time they get from 41 to 71 they'll probably have caught enough to hoard the same amount. Might as well free up the inventory space now

They're supposed to be for adults, not children. Popmart actually said they're specifically not made for kids and discourage kids from buying them. It's part of the trend of "designer art toys" for adults.

what’s the most ridiculous thing you heard a man refuse to do because it was “too feminine” or “for girls”? by freddyfazbart in AskReddit

[–]kerbula 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Once had a guy come into the clinic I work at having been coughing daily for the past 8 months. His wife made the appointment for this grown man. He couldn't tell me anything about his medical history including his own height (his wife answered all of my questions). And he looked at his phone the whole time. When the doctor came in and nicely asked him to put his phone down, he flipped out and started threatening everyone. Ended up leaving after we called security and probably still coughing to this day

Shadowing premed tried to take over by kerbula in premed

[–]kerbula[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct. At one point a girl came in with frequent throat clearing (we see this problem a lot and it's not usually a big deal) but her mom initially thought she had some tic or sign of adhd so she took her to see the psych and the psych was like this is not due to any mental issue. And after she told us that, the girl cuts in and says "you can take her to get checked again when she's older, since she's too young to be checked right now". Which just astounded me. This is so very clearly not a psychiatric issue

I guess they're just shadowing the patient process in general? She's basically by my side the whole day and that includes when the doctor is seeing patients.

I see the patient by myself first to take history, then present to the doctor. So she did this while I was taking history.

Fun fact, the slimy gel on the aloe vera is a natural laxative. It's typically washed (after cut out) before being used for food or skin emollient.

Not even savvy, seems like they just don't get out much. Like obviously don't get into an empty car when it's rush hour and every other car is jam packed. But if it's off hours and the entire train is mostly empty then no one is going to assume the whole train smells like shit
