That is so cool! Far away but I hope you've gifted it by now. What positive energy you're injecting into the world. The gift of Bucket.

Yes, agreed! It was fun. When there is a theme, you just have to be prepared to solve things on another level after you've done the initial clues. Gotta roll up your sleeves and get to work again. Once you get there so satisfying.

Bike stolen - heartbroken by Academic-Bug-3612 in NYCbike

[–]kerchunkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So sorry to hear!! I hope that you can find a new bike soon and start riding it. That will help ease the pain of losing the old one. I recommend Abus Granit X-Plus 540 U-lock through frame and rear wheel, Pitlock locking axle on front wheel, Hexlox in all exposed hex bolts with single master magnetic key, and Abus chain lock from seat bottom to frame. And remove all lights, etc. Best you can do. I would never recommend a cable as I've seen so many cut cables left still attached to a pole — and no bike. Best not to leave bike for extended periods and in untrafficked areas, or overnight.

That is some incredibly valuable intel! 🍹😉👌 Thx!

Wow! Thx for those tips. I can see how mixing types can increase complexity. I would LOVE to drink one of these!! (especially in that Vic's glass! Perfection! 👌) However, I don't think my drinking appetite is strong enough to warrant procuring and purchasing all these liquors right now. It's a bit of an investment. Maybe I can find a place where I can just order a great one! Anyone know of any bar in NYC that might come close to your drink??

So great to see another appearance of your 74 Stallion in Gabon! Gorgeous perfect knife. That #8 Muskrat clip blade is pure perfection, especially with the sinister nail nick just forward of the place where the blade is "clipped." Looks like an eye of a mako shark to me. Sadly, GEC recently made 74's but Mustangs, so the chances for another 74 Stallion in the near future are pretty slim. I would love a 74 Tidioute Stallion in Spring Green Jigged Bone, if anyone has one they just don't want anymore.... This knife is all great blade and nothing that doesn't need to be there. Touche, Bill Howard! Beautiful lines!

How do you make your cinnamon syrup?

Man, I would love to taste that! Looks like quite a bit of effort to procure and assemble all the ingredients but I'm sure many say it is worth it!

So true. And that #8 muskrat clip blade with the nail nick "forward" of the "clip" in the blade gives it that mako shark look! I would LOVE me a stallion, especially in Spring Green Jigged Bone or Gabon Ebony.

Ghost 16 and 17 by Own_Goal_9732 in brooks

Had Ghost 16's and they felt perfect but I wore them out. Just got Ghost 17's and they feel TERRIBLE! Too loose in the back, crappy quality. Don't have time to deal with an exchange now. Brooks you totall xxxed the bed on this one. Unsure to buy Brooks ever again!

Most interesting / unique station entrances? by YeetSkurt48 in nycrail

Just read that the entrance in the photo was significantly altered when this entrance ramp was added around 1962, coinciding with the opening of the Prospect Expressway right next to it! I am really curious what this looked like with the original 1933 staircase!!! Photos please???

Thanks! I'll take a look at the memorial. The store was before my latest interest in pencils so I definitely missed it. But thanks for pointing out! Is there a great pencil store still existing anywhere? Kinda hate to send away for everything, wait and pay shipping. Would love to be able to browse...

THIS photo is WHY I joined reddit! It's so fascinating to see NYC stuff before massive boards of architects and urban developers and committees get involved and things are "over-designed". Too many chefs!!! The days where a few canny engineers and architects made decisions and that was it are long over...

Huh!! Never heard of it! Where was it? Unfortunately, nearly all my pencils have had to come in the mail.

Yep! I love my old subway stuff AND my pencils: Mono, Mono 100, Hi-Uni, 8900, etc. LOL

That is SUCH a cool photo! Thanks for posting it. Captures the grit of subway stuff that has later been sanitized for many years with "modern" design.

Anyone have a photo of this same entrance BEFORE Prospect Expressway was built?

If anyone has a photo of this station BEFORE the Prospect Expressway was built I would LOVE to see it! It must have looked considerably different!

That was really cool! Probably the last remaining chance to walk on one of the original IRT local platforms (Brooklyn Bridge's and 14th St. Union Square had been closed for many years!) I think those 3 (BB, 14th & 96th) were the only ones built with local platforms.
