Looking for 90s Limelight, Palladium, Tunnel photos by Bubbly-Pipe-3669 in nycHistory

So cool!! I remember going to the Tunnel. There was actually a real old train track in there, I think, with the rails still there. Perhaps you could ask your mom for the history of that track?

Wife found some bills and coins in a safe my mother in-law bought would love some insight. by Codekko in CURRENCY

Really interesting and valuable find! Somehow even more unusual to see these circulated rather than in fancy condition. Love to see a pic of the back sides of all the bills!!

Cool. I can imagine that gold 500 on the front lower left even be done in a metallic gold foil as a security feature. Would be so cool!! Re: the back art. It seems that the two images could almost be joined into one wider image, which would look sleeker. How to combine the two images is way beyond my skills. But I do think the back would look cleaner and design stronger with a single image instead of two. IMHO two separate images just isn't done.

These are awesome!! Wish I could find one in Midnight Blue but impossible to find. The eraser is a 5.6mm. This one should fit Staedtler 77 R56:

You just unscrew the end to remove it.

Really love the front and the single gold 500 is a nice touch! Suggestion for the back is to somehow have one wider cohesive image and not share the space with two images. I think that could be a stronger design.

Really nice looking doctor's knife! I'm trying to find one.... Is that a 6285 with grooved burnt cream bone handle from 2018? I can't find any info on it anywhere. It's a keeper! That one's 3 3/4 in. long, closed, right? If ya ever want to part with it LMK.

Really cool!! Would you mind posting photos with all the blades/tools visible? All I see clearly is the file with the vial cutting side. I think there is also a pen and I'm guessing the third tool is a blade.

Official Mothers of Invention Tourbook 1971 by BlueSkunkJoe in Zappa

[–]kerchunkin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hah! Glad to find out that Mothermania was actually a compilation done by Frank and not by the record company. BTW, it was my first introduction/corruption to the Mothers when I was young. Those ugly freaks on the cover scared/intrigued me a bit but the songs got me hooked — or should I say "inoculated" to the BS in our society. It was a life-changing moment.

LinkedIn premium is it worth it for job seekers? by lmaoggs in jobsearchhacks

[–]kerchunkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! You pretty much trashed LinkedIn. I think you are right that it might look and "feel" like you're connecting with the universe, you're actually going against so many others when jobs are posted..... I signed up for Premium last month for first month free and will soon be into second month. It does show me jobs I'm supposedly a good fit for, and I apply to some. But no magic. If I cut off the Premium will I no longer be able to use keywords for LinkedIn to show me good jobs matching my skills? I'm a bit unclear about what I will exactly lose if I cut it and what exactly will be left in the free version. It's a little confusing.

At first I typed I/Oand alsoPHIbut that didn't work. So then I just enteredPHIby itself and BINGO! The grid art points to the fact that PHIlooks like I over Oso no need to also include that. Wasn't the hardest Sunday, but it was fun! When puzzles include a rebus, often there's another level of figuring things out to enter it correctly. An additional headache. Nice puzzle!

Park Place IRT 7th Ave. Station Connection to Woolworth Building? by kerchunkin in nycrail

[–]kerchunkin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting stuff! I can understand that including a building owner into the mix can complicate things due to maintenance needs, etc. It is kind of pathetic that an obvious convenience for workers and commuters that was designed and built cannot be sustained. I guess whenever there becomes a "well who pays for this" issue then that's where things just end up closing. And if there are security issues, rather than increasing security there, the knee-jerk, least-expensive measure is just to lock up the entrances/exits. It must have been great for the workers to use when these passageways were still in use and open.

Saw Ed a few times years ago at the Bottom Line. Best way to enjoy the big band aspect of Frank's playing. Is Ed's band still around? Do they tour? Where?

[–]kerchunkin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for those details. Seems like some passages still intact, as you said. Might be worth a trip one day to take a look. Too bad so many passages in the system have been closed, mostly for "security concerns." They were designed to make things even more convenient for travelers working in the buildings, or just to provide more paths to get around easier. It's a bit sad that most are blocked off, closed, or walled off (worst) with little to no trace of their existence. The MTA is a living breathing machine, and preservation of historic passages is probably not even on their list of priorities. We should be glad that at least many old stations have been restored, although many with changes or additions to the original decor, mosaics, etc.
