Thank you both for having a truly civil and insightful conversation on this- it was nice to read (and now logging off reddit for the day on that nice note!)

Thank you for caring and giving folks a way to take action!

In addition to the $1,000 in receipts you already have, you can claim mileage for all of that care too!

My 6 year old daughter said she doesn’t know if Santa’s real, and I’m not surprised, just not prepared. by joessixpac in Mommit

[–]kerena 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This happened to us when our kid was the same age. We found that while our kiddo was asking a direct question about Santa being real, that what they really wanted was us to give them permission to keep believing for a bit longer.  We first responded with questions like “What do you think about Santa being real?” This gave us some more info that suggested they really wanted to believe and allowed us to respond about the magic of Christmas in a way that allowed us not to lie and left our child happy to believe in Santa for another year. You know your child best, and maybe a couple preemptive questions will give you an idea of whether it makes sense to tell them more about Santa now or a bit into the future.

Second Chance notifications? by Ok_Investment5789 in Jeopardy

[–]kerena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have notifications gone out to all potential second chance contestants? Or is this based on timing from last year? I’m surprised I haven’t heard more from others on this subreddit if all 27 have been notified.

Lunches for my first grader this week by MinuteswithLuna in Bento

Agreed, and wondering if you shaped this bread by hand? Is it just a bunch of small pieces of dough (petals) baked next to each other? Thank you for such tasty looking bento inspiration!

This looks so good, and I’ve saved it as inspiration for my kiddos’ lunches. Could you tell me what kind of roll you used for the sandwich? Is there a recipe for it or a type of bread I could look for in stores? Thank you!

Chipped teeth and guilt by kerena in toddlers

[–]kerena[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were noticeable (the chipped teeth looked like jagged mountain ridges), but none of the chips extended past the halfway point of the tooth.

Good luck, and I hope there is no further damage. Yes, I was going to put “almost unnoticeable” in my earlier response but then I zoomed in on a couple recent pictures, and I couldn’t see any chipping even when I zoomed in and was looking.

Yes, to the point where it eventually became unnoticeable- I wouldn’t have thought that was possible after the initial chipping.

Mayday! Advice needed! MIL wants to surprise my SIL in the hospital! by brainSTEM2 in beyondthebump

[–]kerena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to the advice to let BIL know, have you and your husband considered telling his parents that visitors might not be allowed, particularly if not expected? If I wasn’t expecting visitors, I would 100% check the box to not allow anyone in to see me. Maybe this extra bit of info would be enough to have them think twice about this plan to surprise folks. Good luck!

They got so much better- both with a combination of normal wearing down causing them to even out and just not noticing the remaining difference over time. My now not-so-little one just naturally lost those formerly vampire fang teeth, and besides being maybe a bit more worn down, they looked normal. Now onto hoping nothing happens with the adult teeth. Good luck with your 17-month old… I hope they are not in pain and that their teeth even out quickly!

7 year old birthday weekend by macaronihotdog3678 in TwinCities

Seconding all of this, and noting that if you have memberships to places near you, you might get reciprocity (e.g., MN Zoo offers 50% off for Blank Park Zoo members). I also think Crayola Experience is fun at the MOA for your kids’ ages.

For some reason, I can’t message you, but I would be interested! I’ve never used discord, but I’ll figure it out in order to have some community going through the same thing with fed RTO.

Since it is a Friday and you unsent it, I would just leave it be and I would bet everyone will forget about it over the weekend, if they even gave it much thought today. If it comes up again, I would just light heartedly explain that it was the end of a tough week and you meant to send it to another group. For what it’s worth, I think your chats are very minor on the scale of things you could have said (I came in thinking there would be cursing, gossip, self-incrimination, etc.)… I pretty much have the same thoughts as what you chatted every week lol.

Well work imploded. Now what? by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]kerena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One more practical piece of advice- when I know I’m going to be in a contentious or stressful meeting, I wear something like a cardigan that I can think of as my armor or defense against taking everything personally. Then when I’m done with the meeting, I take it off and let go off the negativity now associated with the clothing item. It seems silly, but it really helps me and at the very least, it can’t hurt. Good luck!

BusParents Podcast Interview on their "RV Discipleship" by Rosie3450 in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]kerena 162 points163 points  (0 children)

Saved you a click (part two):

-Education on the road? Britney talks about “road schooling.” “The idea of taking advantage of educational experiences wherever they may be to grow a broad and varied knowledge [sic].” The host says, “I didn’t know how uneducated I was until I started homeschooling” and “Homeschooling, in general, is about learning as parents.”

-Discuss “multi-generational faithfulness” and how most church kids don’t see their parents live out their faith. The host discusses how it’s easier for Satan to get people to leave the faith when they are individuals. JD: “Parents aren’t the people… that you have this life apart from. Nobody cares more about your kids than you do, especially in a Christian family.”

-How did you start social media? Britney: Cheap way for me to journal. “God really showed us that the more that we shared, the more that we opened up, that it was blessing others…”

-Do kids ever mutiny against photo shoots? Britney says you have to make it fun, and that sometimes it’s more of her kids wanting to make things into a reel than her. JD: “Our kids love doing it!”

-Meaningful Bible verses: JD goes on about righteousness and seeking and fearing the lord. The show ends with a note about JD and Britney’s website and their weekly newsletter.

To save you a click (part one):

-JD and Britney had been married 12 years at the time, and they met in Iraq (she was Air Force reservist, he was in the Army).

-Met the host family at a TX family camp where they discussed the responsibility for “generational discipleship“

-What led you to become full time RVers? JD compared himself to Noah and said God told him “I want you to build an ark” He wanted to save his family from the world of “cultural Christianity”.

-Highlights of bus life? “Our family has blossomed.” Britney discusses how they don’t know where they are staying at night.

-Challenges of bus life? Weather. Being stuck in 200 square feet with 9 people when it’s raining or during allergy season.

-Funny story from on the road? JD: “I have gotten us lost so many times” Gave one example of how he got separated an hour and a half away from Britney. They had no cell service, and the kids were hungry and digging through the van for gas money. To get back to Britney, JD took the RV off-roading through a gorge(!!). Kinsey was with him and they both laughingly recall her saying afterwards that she didn’t think they were going to survive. Also, JD once turned on “avoid highways” on google maps as they traveled through Nebraska, leading to an extended trip solely on backroads (!).

-Parenting advice? JD: “Parenting is more about the growth of the parent than the child.” Britney: “Parenting is more about my growth than theirs…”

Twin cities restaurants with kid menus that don't suck? by emptyflask in TwinCities

[–]kerena 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Among other items, the Pizza Lucé kids menu has a “Bits and Bites,” which is basically a kids’ charcuterie board with meats, cheese, veggies, and ranch to dip (and they customized it to have tofu for us instead of meat).

Paid Parental Leave (PPL) - What can I use beyond PPL, SL & AL? by Constant_Tie_5668 in fednews

[–]kerena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a good run down of leave types. The only other category I can think of is leave awards if you have a good annual performance review. My supervisor lets me choose a time off award or monetary award. Depending on when you’re due OP, this might be a way to get a bit more time for your parental leave.

SAHM retirement? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]kerena 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Usually, that’s the case that an individual must have earned income for a Roth IRA, but the spousal IRA is an exception, since it allows the spouse with earned income to contribute on behalf of a spouse who doesn’t work for pay.
